Tayrona National Park, Colombia, 27 December 2023 | The golden beaches of Colombia!

Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona is a magical slice of Colombia's Caribbean coast, with stunning stretches of golden sandy beach backed by coconut palms and thick rainforest. Famous for its wildlife and golden beaches, which are among the most photographed in Colombia, this is simply a place you have to visit!

The Tayrona National Natural Park was created in 1964 on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in the Caribbean Region of Colombia. Located 34 km from the urban center of Santa Marta, it is one of the most important natural parks in Colombia. Its the habitat of a large number of species that are distributed in regions with different thermal levels ranging from sea level to heights of 900 m. The park forms part of the ancestral territories of the Kankuamo, Kogui, Wiwa and Arhuaco indigenous communities who inhabit the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
The Tayrona National Natural Park is considered one of the most important ecological reserves in South America, it has great natural beauty and abundant flora and fauna, virgin beaches, archaeological remains, waterfalls and ravines. Of the 15,000 hectares that make up the park, 3,000 are marine area. This is home to hundreds of animal species that roam freely, and most of these animals hide from humans. Some are dangerous, as various types of snakes, caimans and jaguars. The flora that grows in the park is divided into two different ecosystems, tropical dry forest and tropical wet forest. There are than 770 different species of plants here, not including the marine part of the park.
The easiest way to get to this sanctuary is from Santa Marta (see my other Colombia videos), the second oldest Spanish colonial city in all of Latin America. From there you take a 40-minute bus ride to the main gates of Tayrona Park, where you'll be able to access the park's main beaches: Playa Cañaveral, Playa Arenilla, Playa Arrecifes, Playa Cabo de San Juan and Playa Cristal. Playa Cabo San Juan is also one of the park's most spectacular beaches and is a big hit with tourists and locals alike, thanks to its unique and picturesque views. Playa Cristal is ranked among the top 25 beaches in South America according to the TripAdvisor 2018 Travellers' Choice Beaches list.
