Welcome aboard the Wanderlust vessel!
The videos in this channel take in the concentrated essentials of what to do and see, in images and text. Reading the video description is a good idea. This channel is ideal for the independent travelers who want to use it as a 'fast guide' to a location they already may be interested in going to, or browsing for ideas for their next travel project. My playlists could easily be used as travel itineraries, and often include details and locations not many travelers have seen!
I'm Jean and I live in Sweden. I have a passion for traveling, to inspire people to see the world, experience different cultures, history and ways of life. I like connecting with the fragile nature we all depend on, so I climate compensate all my travels. I aim to upload a new video each week.

Perge, Turkey, 13 May 2024 I The beautiful city of ancient Pamphylia!
Perge experienced two golden ages: during the Hellenistic period in the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC and under the Romans in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. Archaeologists first began excavations here in 1946 and a selection of the statues discovered, can be seen at the Antalya Archaelogy Museum.
Watch my other Turkey videos: th-cam.com/play/PLjply4VDAlSI5z1W_UJXeOY-N6UXuoHa7.html&si=ezV0mijVQOqPoNoL
Excavations in Perge's original settlement on the acropolis date it to the early Bronze Age, 4000-3000 BC. The settlement probably became a Greek colony of Rhodes in the 7th c. BC. Perge was later a Pamphylian Greek city, and came under successive rule by Persians, Athenians, and Persians again. In 540 BC Perge, along with the other cities in Pamphylia was captured by the Achaemenid Empire. Alexander the Great, after taking Phaselis, was welcomed in Perge with his army in 334 BC. The walls around the lower city were built in the period starting from 223 BC. In the 2nd century BC the city became prosperous and started minting its own coins with the image of Artemis and her temple. Perge became renowned for the worship of Artemis, whose temple stood on a hill outside the town, and in whose honour annual festivals were celebrated.
133 BC Perge came under Roman rule. After 25 BC, the Romans built the Via Sebaste linking Pisidian Antioch in Galatia with Perge. When the Romans first incorporated Perge into the empire, the city was a part of the Province of Galatia. After the Flavian Dynasty was founded by Emperor Vespasian, the city became a part of the Lycia et Pamphylia province. Vespasian also granted the city the rank of neocorate which made the city in charge of the imperial cult. During the 2nd century AD there was a construction boom in the city, fueled by Pax Romana and excessive wealth. The city center was expanded to the South side of the city and new monuments were erected. Perge also had many philanthropists during the Roman Empire period who financed the construction of monumental structures.
Under the Romans from the 1st to the 3rd century AD Perge became a magnificent city with many impressive buildings. It became one of the most beautiful towns in Anatolia, competing with Side for the status of most important town in Pamphylia. Plancia Magna (died 122 AD), daughter of the governor Marcus Plancius Varus, was the greatest benefactor and instigator of public buildings and was honoured with statues erected by the town council.
In 46 AD, according to the Acts of the Apostles, St. Paul journeyed to Perge. Paul and Barnabas came to Perge during their first missionary journey, but probably stayed there only a short time, and do not seem to have preached there, it was there that John Mark left Paul to return to Jerusalem. On his return from Pisidia, Paul preached at Perge. As the Cestrus silted up over the late Roman era, Perge declined as a secular city. In the first half of the 4th century, during the reign of Constantine the Great (324-337), Perge became an important centre of Christianity, which soon became the official religion of the Roman Empire.
The last period of prosperity for Perge came in the 5th and the 6th centuries, when the city
had a rank of a bishopric. In the following century the decline of Perge had set in. With the
Arab invasions of Asia Minor in the 8th century, Perge was finally laid in ruins and was never
rebuilt. Many items from Perge are now seen in the Archaeological Museum in Antalya.

¡Hola! Y Gracias a tí!
Sin duda alguna vivimos en un planeta lleno de mucho misterio e historia bonito lugar para conocer saludos desde Montreal Canadá

Hi and thanks for the feedback! I try to give more info and background in the video description, but will see how I might use your idea. Hi, was the road path clear or not to follow?
Hello! Both the Singing Dunes and the Aktau Mountains have a parking lot next to them. From there you may wander off as you please really, no one will tell you where to go etc as these are quite desolate places. The Aktau Mountains have signs telling you not no walk on the slopes up to the top, as they consist of hard packed clay and might crumble under feet. However, that's exactly what I did and all worked out fine, watch the first part off the Aktau Mountains (at 5:08 - 5:47). You will see paths formed by other visitors, just follow them if you want.
@@JeanDar noted with thanks. Your info helps me a lot. 😊
@@PgMantisYou're welcome. I was blown away by the Aral Sea and stunning Boszhira Valley in Kazakhstan (watch my videos from there)! So if you can, try to include them in your trip too. One could fly to Qyzylorda from Almaty for the Aral Sea, and to Aktau by the Caspian Sea for Boszhira. I took the overnight train in both cases, but that will cost you 2 full days and is quite booring. Cheers!

What is the trek distance form bottom to top ……Did we take any package for this place
Hello! The sand dunes are just next to the parking lot and most people go directly to the top from there in some 15-20 minutes. In this video however, we turned it into a hike, starting from the opposite side in order to have the dunes for ourselves and without any tracks from other people. There are also gazelles in the area, so could be wortwhile to do some desert hiking! The Aktau Mountains on the other hand, could be more demanding, depending on your form, and one may well spend some 3 hours walking as we did in the video. In September, when this video was shot, its warm but not hot. In the winter it will be freezing cold. A small backpack with water, perhaps a wind/rain layer and camera will do the trick on both places. Some snack is optional. Its practical and quite easy to combine these two and/or other locations in the Almaty region. I had some 5 days with a guide called Max and 4x4 taking in videos 2-6 in my Kazakhstan playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLjply4VDAlSJxvMO4oEU6Qh-mEOIeC0al.html&si=XVLiYhmpdSirPh3S. Hey, I'd say April or September. Not too hot and not cold, if you're going to Altyn Emel. But some places are starting to get cold by then, mountainous areas and such. Almaty turned from 37° C to 17° C in two days while my stay in September, so depending where you are planning to go, temp could be radically different.
