I find it so weird and kinda endearing how japanese people worries so much about how to call someone. Like here we just use everyone's first name, at most depending on the person we might add a "sir" there somewhere.
They practice those honorifics as part of their daily lives as a form of politeness to others 😊. Not only Japanese people use this but some other countries as well, such as Koreans, Chinese, Thai etc. People not using these honorifics to someone, might be considered rude to them.
In Japan it's a requirement to respect elders and honour upperclassmen. Especially the younger ones and older ones all their lifetime and in their culture, they prefer to respect each other. From my Japanese class in college, my Japanese Professor who used to live in Japan said, (her culture you are taught to honour people before yourself. It's a big must do, you have to care for people and put other's before yourself.)
This just shows how much disrespect I use at my family. For my siblings I call them by their names lmfao. But for chinese, every aunt and uncle has a certain term, it actually kills my braincells because I have to search up the different aunts. In english you can just say aunt beth or aunt cassy. That’s why I avoid my family members that come over but it’s typically a rule to respect anyone older than you.
