  • The Howick Historical Village covering 7acres contains a more than 30 original buildings dating to the 1800's which were brought to the site for restoration and conservation. Put together entirely by volunteers the village opened to the public in 1980.
    Incredibly well done and absolutely worth a visit, there is a pretty decent cafe as well which I can attest does an excellent eggs Benedict :)
    Thanks to Brian (who grew up and still lives in the area) now retired, for his guided tour and kindly sitting in a couple of the interior shots.

    Great, we had volunteers that re-created the village into a living museum bringing us back to Victorian NZ times! Thanks for choosing this place for us to learn from!

      Hi , yes its sort of hard to imagine the real day to day life of that time before supermarkets, the petrol engine, antibiotics and the internet. :)

    I love this. Very well done video. I got curious after watching the Epic NPC Man videos and wanted to see what the entirety of this village looked like, and this is just so perfect. I live in the US so it’s likely I’ll never get a chance to visit New Zealand or this amazing site of historical preservation, so I’m absolutely amazed by the detail you were able to share with us. While I watch this as a fan of the VLDL videos that made it known to me, I am also just blown away by how beautiful and detailed everything is. And then reading up on how it took so many years to be brought to life by volunteers? Incredible. Thank you again for sharing this historical museum with those of us who will never be able to see it in person.

      Hi there , thanks for that long and detailed comment , really appreciate you taking the time. My channel is entirely NZ centric if you’d like to see a bit more , mostly from around Auckland our biggest city (1.7m) but also quite a bit from Taranaki and a few videos from the South Island where I grew up , many, many years ago 😀

      Hi , thanks a lot , glad you liked this one 😀 The elderly gentleman in some of these shots is a retired former manager of mine who actually went to school in some of these buildings and who gave me a great tour of the village having been involved in its development. I've been watching Jeans videos for quite some time usually commenting on the beautiful blue skys she seems to have there most days which provide some relief from the incredibly gloomy winter we've been having this year in particular. 😀Thanks for dropping by .

      Hi Thanks , I guess Canada has a some what-longer history of European settlement than us but in the scheme of things not much longer I suppose. There are lots of Canadians here or have been here and vice versa , maybe its a Commonwealth thing. My dad trained as a pilot for WW2 in Canada so I've always felt an affinity for the place.

    This is a really great historic village! I love all the little details inside and out. Wonderful gardens and walkways-inside all the tools, supplies, work in progress and especially the old quilts, really looks like home and helps imagine what it was like back about 1850! Nice to see your friend in a few of the scenes too. Have a great weekend! Cheers - Jennifer 😄👍

    • @Chris-NZ
      @Chris-NZ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Being run by volunteers I guess they have to pay their running expenses somehow but you are right it was more expensive than I expected than say Motat for example , but they do have a discount for seniors but I can see a family would start getting pretty expensive 2x adults plus 2 children = close to $100. Hopefully my video gave you all you needed to see. 😀
