  • Here we compare 3 common lightweight filler materials for shooting bags: kitty litter, corn cob and Spex•Lite® Ultra Light Filler Beads.
Including the weight of the container, the materials weigh the following:
    -Kitty Litter: 237 grams
    -Corn Cob: 159 grams
    -Spex•Lite®: 45 grams
Spex•Lite® Beads are about 1/4th the weight of the next lightest, common filler material for shooting bags. This means you can use 75% less the amount of weight of traditional fill by using SpexLite!
SpexLite is the best shooting bag fill to decrease the weight of the bag for military, professional, hunters and recreational shooters.

Soooo, in order to make it cost effective I have to buy 4 bags and fill them. How about weighing rice, which is what I use. And its really cheap in bulk.

      Thanks for the note!
The rice we weighed from the grocery store is about 50.5 pounds per cubic foot, which is about
-50 times heavier than one of our ultra light shooting bag fillers (Spex•Lite® 5524), and
-5 times heavier than our medium weight filler (Spex•Lite® 5125).
Yes, rice is cheap, but it is also heavy, and it also tends to absorb water out in the field and expand, which could bust the seams of your bag.
If you would like to save weight and not worry about potential moisture and expansion issues, we'd love for you to try Spex•Lite® Lightweight Shooting Bag Fillers and let us know what you think.

I use a bags of one pound bag of pinto beans and leave the beans in the plastic bag. I make the outer bag from the legs of old worn out jeans. My jeans and my wife's jeans. (she has smaller legs) I made a set of two large bags, two medium size bags and one small bag for under the butt plate.

Hi Tom, thank you for the comment!
Keeping your pinto beans in the bag is an interesting approach to mitigate the negative effects of any moisture interacting with the beans.
Pinto beans are about 20 times heavier than our most popular shooting bag filler, and we'd love to get your feedback on how our SpexLite Lightweight Shooting Bag Fillers compare to pinto beans.

@@spexlite I am willing to try your product at no cost to you. I do NOT do compensated endorsements. As an instructor (MN lic. 15945) my interest is for answers to students who ask about product recommendations.
I buy product at manufacturers cost. I will make my own bags using a woman's knee high stocking as a liner, and blue jean legs, and submit my evaluation with text and photos via USPS.
Let me know if you agree.
