The 49th Street Galleria was a much classier name than "The Utah Fun Dome." I spent so much of my teen life growing up at the Galleria. I LOVED that place more than the mall! And that's saying a LOT. LOL I think I was there for the I went there with my best friend and her family not long after it had already opened. They'd already been once before. My BFF couldn't wait to show me everything. There was a magician wearing white gloves performing, what I thought, were incredible tricks. I was so entranced by what he was doing that my BFF got impatient and practically had to drag me to the other places within the Galleria. Lol I loved the sounds of the arcade; the smell of the food; the Hughes Brothers...😍🎶 The Hughes Brothers, BTW, are a group of family musicians who now play in Branson (at least the last I heard they did). In 1983, though, I first watched a performance in my middle school while a friend of mine and I debated about which one of the oldest brothers was the cutest: Marty or Jason. Hahahaha! Anyway, I had the biggest crush on Marty (apology to his wife...😚). I was addicted to watching them perform and found out they were going to be performing at my beloved 49th Street Galleria. I had to be there, of course, but I couldn't get my mother to take me. Thankfully, her roomie, who was only 9 years older than me and understood teenage crushes, agreed to take me. I still have the pictures I took that day. Lol 😂 Anyway, the Galleria will always hold a special place in my heart. I was bummed when they changed the name to a really stupid name (IMO), but I still loved going there. I even took my daughter when she was an infant for a ride on the carousel. I feel like the idiot gangs who took the "fun" out of the "Fun Dome" destroyed the opportunity for my now grown daughter to have shared, fond memories of that place. Update: Ugh! I just found out today that they demolished this beautiful structure to build, of all things, apartment buildings! As if we don't have enough unaffordable housing in Utah!!
0:24 What led to them going bankrupt were the gangs. There was a shooting there in the parking lot, so no one felt safe taking their families there anymore. Edit: oops! I guess you mentioned this towards the end. 2:30 Tiffany's video, "I think we're alone now", was filmed at the Galleria?? And I missed it? Lol
Their mini-golf is still the gold standard for me for miniature golf courses. They had two different courses to choose from...Pirate and I want to say Victorian? I always chose Pirate. The Galleria for me holds some of my fondest childhood memories. A different time.
I remember the arcade. My favorite game was Major Havoc. Put a dollar in the change machine, you would get three tokens, not four. Bit of a ripoff. I also remember the roller rink
The Galleria has the best mini golf courses! As a Girl Scout, I got to be "locked in" after hours and we had free reign of the whole place before we all threw our sleeping bags down and slept on the skating rink. That was so uncomfortable! Ah, I miss that whole place! It was the best!!
You are SO lucky that you had that experience! I LOVED the miniature golf course so much! I loved the sweet miniature houses and the indoor stream. It was my favorite thing to do there. I could never get enough of it! I also, surprisingly, enjoyed the batting cages. I'm terrible at sports, so that's why I said "surprisingly," but I was always able to hit the ball in the batting cages. It felt amazing when I did, too! Such a stress reliever! Did you ever go on the Gravitron?
I grew up across the street from the Philadelphia 49th St., Galleria at the Franklin Mills Mall and that didn’t open till like 89 Or 90. Did not know this place existed and you said it opened in 83 so the one in Philly Hass to be modeled after that one
Excellent video! Thanks! I think that the Utah location was the original one. I think the whole company was owned by the family of Utah Legislator LaVar Christensen.
Yes, the "first" one was in Utah. I had no idea there were others (or others -to-be) until today. 😮 Fun fact: I actually got to babysit Lavar's kids occasionally when they were little. I knew he owned the Galleria, but I didn't get any free passes for anything there. Lol I didn't ask them for anything like that either...just a dollar an hour for babysitting (the going rate at the time). His kids were so precious, too, and a lot of fun!
They sure did! I went to the Galleria in Utah so many times I practically LIVED there. I didn't always have extra money for food, but I was sometimes lucky enough to get a date to pay for me. Haha!

The upstairs arcade was so tight. If I'm remembering correctly, they has two different indoor mini golf courses.
There were! Blackbeards :)
I spent a lot of time in my teen years at the galleria in the 90’s

Dang, a blast from the past. I've always remembered the tune from that commercial :-)
Brings back so many memories from the 80s!
4:09 They used to meet at that clock at 4:20.

You're actually correct!! I found that out after reading your comment and checking into it. I guess I just assumed that we weren't that cool :D
