Don’t set the bar so high by trying to completely eliminate the grocery store. I believe it’s very admirable if you can just reduce your dependency on the grocery store, as you are doing. Don’t try to achieve perfection, just work towards excellence.
They are not thinking about us folks that work at the big stores that support them by watching and sharing their videos. We still have to make sells to keep staff members that watch You Tube homesteaders.
@@HOLLESjr-That’s always been my beef with this “our food system is broken” crap. It’s not broken and be don’t need to break it to improve. Horses that come from a warmer climate to a colder one will need a blanket at this time of year. There winter coat starts to grow as the daylight gets shorter (starting around the summer solstice). Our horses winter coat is completely grown by this time of year and peaches was just moved to a much colder climate. His coat is not going to grow anymore this year and will most likely need a blanket at night and on cold windy days through the winter. Next year his coat will be more acclimated to there colder weather and should be fine. It is never a bad idea to have a proper fitted blanket on hand for your horses because you never know when you will need one. Wind will chill a horse really quickly. It gets underneath their coat and zaps all the warmth out of there system. In our area we go from up to 121 during the summers to the low teens with a lot of wind during the winter. We even hit 0 during one winter and our horses spent over a week with blankets on. Weather is far less predictable nowadays than it used to be.
Justin you have plenty of buildings with covered areas on the property. Park the four wheeler under a covered area. Then on any equipment that is not used frequently, use Battery Tender to keep the batteries from freezing and topped off.
@@Austinpowas It really does. Especially if you can keep that north wind blocked too. Also those little inexpensive “Battery Tenders” are a necessity for farm equipment batteries in the winter.
As a football coach I looked for the pain to diminish as the muscles warmed up under mild exercise. If the pain stayed the same or worsened, stop pushing.
That was a lot of climbing yesterday Justin! Wow, Randolph did a great job! Yeah, Peaches needs to acclimate and shivering helps him get adjusted to the new temperatures and having his hair grow more. That will be a nice porch downstairs. Too bad the frost free water hydrant froze! That pig port really looks nice for the pigs Justin! It was nice to see Lily riding Peaches. Yay, buttermilk cornbread! I sure hope you can figure out the recipe with some type of rising agent and some salt! It looked like you really liked it Rebekah. That pan is great! Thanks for this video Rhodes family!
Check out Bob's Red Mill for organic stone ground cornmeal. Please ask your Dr about taking shots of ACV and possibility of damaging the esophagus and increasing acidity of the mouth and gum recession. So happy to see Lily and her horse, long time coming but it looks like good choice with trainers support, good job! Blessings Jan
There’s a trick that I learned last year permaculture Put your garden on the flat mountain / heel connect 200 swales With little burn in front And plant your seeds in Every time it rains, the water goes through your roots and if it doesn’t rain, just open the hose on top and feed everything and you’ll see birds swimming in the swales pooping on the burn you’ll have Barry everywhere. I wish you could see mine. It’s insane. And you could do 100 of mine where your situated
@Berley_1234I bet Jonah will move into the house they’re temporarily in now and start his own landscaping company’s and will continue to help with chores.
I enjoy every video you make. I always learn something and occasionally become inspired to try new things. I adore your entire family and never tire of your enthusiasm and authenticity.
If you’ll allow yourselves to buy pure pineapple juice from the grocery store, you can put up zucchini chunks in pineapple juice and it works like canned pineapple in baking projects. I don’t know if that helps or not? Homesteading with the zimmermans is where I learned how to do it. Love you guys! Xoxo
I have SI joint issues (sacroilitis) due to Ankylosing Spondylitis. I accidentally learned how to pop mine in physical therapy (their exercises weren't working). I lay flat on my back, bend my legs with feet flat on the floor and then squeeze my legs together at the knees. It's a nice release in my lower back when it pops and the SI pain lessens or stops. I don't know if it's safe for you, but discovering it was a lifesaver for me. It's sometimes short lived but it's nice getting a break.
have you ever thought of the 100 mile challenge?? since you are going to be doing , no grociery stores next year, the challenge could be good for some things your looking for.. you have a 100 mile radius from your home and you can only buy for farms or homesteaders .. You might be surprised by what you can find , what people make in 100 miles from your home... rule was no store buying lol
Make yourself a 10x20 green house next to your house that gets heat from your house. Put a big barrel of water in it. Then you can grow pineapple, bananas and other tropicals. I'm in North Florida and grow pineapples and bananas without a greenhouse. But I'm getting ready to move to Georgia and will be using methods that push the zone for plants.
Jason try to make your back wall of your pig tractor a horizontal door with hinges at the top then as tractor is moved door rides on compost and use metal roofing panels as they flex allowing door to flex put up hog panel wire to keep pigs from door about 3 feet from door. ps. if you find an old garage door it would work as your back door.
Think of your body as a network of rubber bands. When you climb the mountain 5x a lot of those rubber bands tighten up like the balsa wood airplanes we used to play with as a kid. That causes joints and vertebrae to shift and pinch nerves (s.i.) as a warning mechanism until those rubber bands flatten back out. So don't worry about using lighter weights until they do. Then see your chiropractor to adjust the alignment
Use the pig port to develop more land. Every time you move it down and get to the end of the garden area, move it one width away and run it back the other way.. All of the nutrients leached into the soil will boost the microbes in the soil..
you have sheep. you should take sheep's wool, wash it, and felt it into cloth. the felted jacket is warm with one shirt even at -20 degrees. here in Finland it's 30-40 degrees in Lapland and felted shoes still keep your feet warm.
Congratulations on getting the Pig Port done !! You've all been working on that thing forever, lol But, even though ya ran into a lot of road blocks, you finally got it done :)
Peaches should have a water heated buckets, at least 2, under 40 degrees a winter blanket is needed, over 40 degrees take off blanket, especially if it's wet and cold.
Azure Standard is the way to go for your "cheats". Frozen pineapple is wonderful for a cheat but in small amounts because the sugar is so high! Also, bananas can be a bulk buy, take them and cut them into bite-size pieces then freeze them on a sheet tray and once frozen put them into a freezer bag for storage. Henry can learn to eat them like a popsicle bite. My son loved frozen grapes too, cut in half and freeze because they don't freeze hard like an ice cube but like a popsicle.
You have taught us from your mentor Joel that we should buy our animals east or west. Not to move animals south to north. You may not have followed you own advice. LOL
Would you ever consider collaborating with a subscription box exotic fruit service located in Florida? I was just looking for an alternative for hot cocoa. I just love a hot drink in the winter and I remember growing up and having a mint tea that specifically the mint itself taste chocolatey a little bit. We can do it in our yard anyways that might be a plant that you can add to your garden to add flavor to cakes or , have a tea to replace a cocoa just an idea.

Corn bread is easy to make I would say I know the measurements on it but I do it by eye but I use self rising flour self rising corn meal one egg put oil in your pan preheat oven to 400 and slide your pan into the oven while it’s preheating add water till almost to the consistency of pancakes then take some of the oil preheated in the pan add it to your mice then cook for about an hour in the pan
