    I went to my husband's doctor, who calls my husband up once a year, ask how he is doing, and considers that his annual check up. The doctor ran test and said my blood sugar was a little high (100). He told me to lose weight and change my eating, then he would check my labs in 3 months. I lost 40 pounds and cut carbs. When I went back in 3 months, before running any lab test, he said he was going to aggressively treat me with prescription drugs. I immediately found a new doctor. She works with me. She listens to me and we bounce ideas off each other. (I have a MS degree). She had me read Dr. Fung's book on diabetes. My last 4 of my a1C labs have been normal just following the fasting and watching carbs. But.....I am sooooo excited to start following you because of 2 issues. The first is that my weight loss has hit a plateau. The second is that on Dr. Fung's fast you do not eat any food. By the end of the day on a no food fast, I am sick as a dog. I had already thought about a bone broth fast when I smelled the bone broth when I was cooking it for a recipe. Then I found your videos and I feel like it gave the info I needed to make it successful. I can't wait to see if it will stabilize my blood sugar (It is still a little high some mornings.) and to discuss it with my new doctor. She will be excited!

      I have heard several doctor say that everybody’s A1c is typically high in the mornings. It’s very typical, because the body has been working to get rid of the junk while you are sleeping.

    Any calories will take you out of the fasting state which means no autophagy. However, you will stay in fat burning. Did a 28 day water fast then broke my fast with bone broth and it was delicious after so long. Fasting is so beneficial.

    • @FeelinErie
      @FeelinErie ปีที่แล้ว

      How many lbs did you lose after the 28 days?

    • @Smarion2
      @Smarion2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @FeelinErie Exactly 28 pounds. 11 pounds the first week. 7 pounds the second week and then it allowed down significantly. 6 the third week and then 4 the last week. When I started eating, 3 pounds came immediately back. Just gained water weight because you are depleted after so long.

    I love the idea of blending the broth with other things for flavor and additional benefits. I am on my 2nd day of broth fast and I feel great, let see how long I can hold it.

    Two to three quarts a day for a bone broth fast! Yikes! That is around 64 ounces to 96 ounces a day. A lot of consuming of liquids for sure.

  • @TimGreigPhotography
    @TimGreigPhotography 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is a long way from a fast with greens, fish, added fat and coconut milk. It's no doubt a great way to give your body a rest from all that digestive work but you're consuming proteins and fats in the broth and coconut milk. It's "food"! Not sure that autophagy would happen much, if at all.

    • @naturallynourishedRD
      @naturallynourishedRD  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Autophagy occurs in calorie restriction, keto, and exercise actually. Markers such as mTOR respond dynamically to carbs and insulin but to fats and even not significantly to amino acids actually. I talk about this in a blog and note amount of glutamine needed to interfere…it’s a significant amount of protein.

    I love what you are saying here because it seems like a compromise between a water fast but.....................
    ...........we are alwasy told that a true fast allows only for water and / or black coffee / tea with a bit of stevia.
    I am almost 100 hours into a fast with no idea when I will break, and wonder ifg I were doing what you recommend here...............what wieght loss differences would there be if any, and does this change what should be eaten when the fast is broke.
    It sounds too good to be ture that I can actually do a fast and still eat salmon. We keep hearing how the protein will make the insulin spike.

    • @naturallynourishedRD
      @naturallynourishedRD  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be clear, you aren't fasting if you are eating salmon. This is a more "modified fasting" approach or fasting mimicking approach.

    Is it better to do a bone broth fast rather than a pure water fast? I'm 7% body fat - very athletic. Love the health benefits of long fasts, however am already very low body fat so don't want to screw up my hormones. Thanks for any advice anyone :)

    • @naturallynourishedRD
      @naturallynourishedRD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      YES! This is a much more gentle and nourishing fast for those with lower % body fat. You will likely want to add the fat as we recommend in the video too as you don't have body fat to spare. Remember, hormones are made from FAT!

    • @naturallynourishedRD
      @naturallynourishedRD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would not do this while breastfeeding. Once your child is predominantly transitioned to solids or just comfort feeding you could do the gentle fast where you still consume one meal.
