Oh my Alice! You reminded me of the first projects that I did in high school art class! It was an elective to fill my schedule! The teacher had us cut up National Geographic magazines and when we finished our collage he then had us draw the image! One girl did a painting of her collage! I hope you think about continuing this video and make something from this image collection! I want to thank you for the high school flashback! Please take care and be safe out there!

I love hearing the story as the collage develops! This piece came together so beautifully and I think your video really captures the meditative part of the process. I’m sure many people consider collages just sticking things on a page, but the layering, backgrounds, and words make it so much more. I’m very inspired!

I have yet to see the video but I used to collage all of the front of my sketchbooks. I would then take a piece of saran wrap and "laminate" it. Looking back, that was kinda silly. If I do so again in the futrue, I'll either laminate with varnish, a sheet of plastic from a discarded package, or buy actual lamination sheets.

@@paranoiarpincess just leave the contact paper in a cool environment before you use it so that it does not bend or crease or get too sticky but I use them on small travelers notebooks and composition books and I have had zero problems some of the collaged notebooks have been with me for about 10 years now! Lol gosh, this takes me back to my university days when I would always use collage in my sketchbooks and mood boards. I became a magazine hoarder lol 😄.
I always think collage is a fantastic technique for people who struggle with composition or slightly more abstract ideas. It’s a great way to try out different ideas that you wouldn’t necessarily think of off the top of your head. Thank you for bringing back the art of collage Alice, love it! ❤️

I don't usually keep magazines, but I usually will cut some normal paper into smaller pieces when I'm stuck on an idea for a bigger piece. so I will just paint small & simple little paintings on the pieces of paper I cut out & then glue them in a junk sketchbook together. they may not always turn out good or whatever but it's soooo therapeutic. it gives my mind a creative reset. 😊 sometimes I will just write my own quotes on them to put with the paintings. helps me get better at actual art Journaling 🙂
the page you did was soooo good! those Gelato sticks look interesting & fun. the rose with the metallic shadow is my favorite 😍 love your art & your videos always

This video goes very well with your everyone is an artist approach. You just need to grab paper, scissors and glue and you are ready to create your personal artwork. Add some color and shimmer and it is even better. That piece might not take the place of the Mona Lisa, but collage is a great and easy way to express yourself even when you stash of art supplies isn‘t that big or special.

Yeah...and it is a great creative outlet especially during these times (we are still in lockdown here in Germany). During the first lockdown my (grown up) daughter felt bored and I introduced her to collage, her turn was to use geometric shapes and design layers and abstract pieces.

Try cutting out the figures or tearing out whole pages and throwing the rest away. You could organize by greenery or flowers, people, fashion, etc. Less mess, more creativity. Just looking in the pages will make you want to create a collage!

If your punches aren’t sharp enough, get some aluminum foil, and use the punch on the foil several times. This will help sharpen the punch. Alternatively, if you have a punch that’s “sticky”, and doesn’t release easily, you can punch wax paper.

Have you checked out 'the Jealous Curator' website?
Danielle Krysa, aka, "The Jealous Curator" is a contemporary artist herself that works in mixed media collage. And she interviews and fangirls (in the best way you can) over contemporary artists from all over the world; be it painters, photographers, sculptures, and collage artists.
She has four books (one of which is called "Your Inner Critic is a Big Jerk'),
one children's book (released in 2020, "How to Spot an Artist")
a podcast called 'Art for your Ear' (which is so close to releasing its two-hundredth episode!!!!)
and currently has two classes on Skillshare!!!!

Love this project idea but I have to discourage the use of sewing scissors on paper. This dulls the blades which then renders them not good for cutting fabric. Please only use scissors intended for paper on paper. Aside from that little problem, I have to thank you for the inspiration to try a new art idea. Hopefully I can find some of my conservationist magazines and get some pictures of animals for the piece I have in mind ^-^

    • @HulloAlice
      @HulloAlice  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I figured you'd use them just for paper and not also for fabric, I probably should have mentioned that it's best to keep a seperate set of scissors for your sewing! I've had that issue myself before because OTHER PEOPLE KEPT USING MY SEWING SCISSORS 😂 Yess do it!! I'd love to see what you make!!

It's fascinating and they made some amazing work! Collage art is not inferior in any way!

Go ahead and argue with Picasso tho
"The term Papier collé was coined by both Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art."
