Thanks for this great lesson, Damian! Made my day to find this! I used to travel US 441 past Kenansville back in the mid 60's. I always enjoyed seeing the Heartbreak Hotel every time. It was either pink or red in those days, as I remember...it looked very lonely out there in the middle of nowhere, too!
Hi Ernie, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I hope it brought back some fond memories of your travels. I'm sure it was neat to see how the hotel looks now. :)
Yes, long road trips Melbourne out to 441 and South past Kenansville and Yehaw Junction and on down to Lake Okeechobee to see my grandparents. The old hotel looks great! Thanks for showing it to us! I'm having fun with the song, too!
Great Song and Presentation !! I cannot believe I lived/worked in FL so long and never heard of the Heartbreak Hotel in Kenansville. Thank You, Damian, for that bit of history. Probably drove by it without noticing. Miss some of the Florida scenes, but Sunny Chico, CA is okay for now. I appreciate all of your videos. Live long and prosper !!
Keenansville is literally the middle of nowhere. If you drive down narcoose till you get to nowhere and then keep driving. It's literally at the end of a LONELY STREE
so I was going through my "favorites" list and my very first video I ever favorited and even made my account just to favorite it was your rendition of "black eyed susan" because not only was it the only version of it on youtube at the time but it was so good. I'm so glad you're still making videos
fantastic stuff,as always. love the bit with the heartbreak hotel. i also live in florida, but never knew it existed. gotta swing by it on the next road trip
Thank you. I've known about the spot for a few years now, but I've never had the opportunity to hit it up until now. If you go be sure to check out the old Desert Inn at Yee-Haw Junction. It's nearby. :)
Thank you for the kind words Lindsay. I'm currently working on my Jump Blues DVD. I'm super excited about this course. Also in the very near future I will be uploading some more Jazz lessons very soon. Thanks again and keep on rockin' :)
Hey, I'm a big fan of your lessons and I'm really considering buying the rockabilly guitar DVD but I was wondering how difficult would you say the lessons on it are? Because I've seen you do easy lessons like this (which sounds great by the by!) but there's other lessons where you play like a God of Rockabilly and I can't really keep up on some of them. P.S. You gotta be broiling out there in that black shirt, I'm from North Florida (30 minutes from Tally) and you can get sun burn walking to the mailbox here, I can't imagine how it is down south this time of the year.
Hello Dakota It was so extremely hot outside while I was shooting the video, but it was so worth it. I had a blast being there. That day was so much fun. The funny thing about that day was that there was some people in the woods really close to the Hotel that were shooting off guns. So I would have to wait for them to stop shooting so I could talk into the camera. I would get about 60 seconds of downtime until they started shooting again lol. I'm glad you enjoyed this lesson. I would say that this solo is one of the easier lessons I've taught. It's a basic solo, but it sounds great and it is very effective. My instructional DVDs aren't really geared towards beginners. Bu if I had to suggest one of them to you, I would suggest my "Ultimate Rockabilly Guitar" DVD. This DVD ranges from easy/intermediate lessons to more advanced, but each lesson on the DVD has guitar tabs and everything is taught note for note very slowly. Keep on rockin' DAMIAN :)
