Best honest review of a bike. Most people plonk down their money and act like theyve just bought the best most faultless bike ever made. So many people denying the throttle snatchiness is a problem with these, until they get over the new bike goggles.
Its funny I really felt the snatchy throttle at the beginning..but seem to have stopped noticing it by 1000km maybe ive been riding quicker or something.

Fantastic job with your first impressions Curtis. Your honest impressions are so much better than anywhere else. I recently picked up my new 2025 Himalayan and was a little disappointed on the build quality. My bike suffered from a lot of poor fixturing in the welding process. My bracket for the front windscreen is slightly tilted to the right at the top causing the windscreen and speedo to be misaligned and the rear rack and rear subframe are tweaked slightly as well. Overall I was bummed with the quality and questioning if I should of bought a early model. I noticed the windscreen issues but didn't realize at the dealer the X bracket is bolted to a piece that is welded to the frame, so short of remaking one that is slightly canted I might be stuck with a crooked windscreen. After feeling bummed I was looking forward to watching this mini review but was pessimistic I'd have some buyers remorse and wish I held off. But your review was great and addressed a few of the issues I was aware of for the 450 MT and those where mainly the reason I opted for the Himi. Mostly being the low speed throttle and the high speed gearing for the cruising. Your confirmation of those two things made me think I made the right choice for me. It's winter where I live so my Himi won't get much use for a while but I am looking forward to giving it a good thrashing. We'll see how I feel after it's beat up a bit. I think most of my issues won't bug me anymore after that. I did check the other Himi's they had at my dealer and they all suffered the X windscreen bracket being welded to the frame crooked. It's a shame for a mass production bike to have these issues. Probably just first year stuff but oh well. We'll see.
@@onthebackwheel Gotcha, thanks for the info. Ironically we had a 50+ F degree day here and I was able to get some miles on the new Himi. It now has 66 miles. My first impressions are pretty good. I still haven't revved it past 6k but overall I think it will be a solid bike to travel with my son in law's Himi 411. Should be fun next year.
when i was watching your Himalayan video i was thinking itll be great if u can review cfmoto, then boom u came out with this banger of a video. I really like ur inputs and ur not afraid to really test the bike.
I'm glad you like the bike. I've had mine since late June and love it. Interesting point with the seat though. I'm 110kg and haven't had any issues what so ever. I'm also a beginner off road so it's all new to me but Ive been getting some good tips from my riding mates. Crash bars are worth their weight in gold and have saved my bike.
@@onthebackwheel no I've left the suspension as it was when I picked it up. I'm only a beginner to off road so I keep my tyres on the ground, or try to
It's a great looking bike, I wish something like this was about when I was first starting out. it's a good bike for the money and It's definitely a good beginner bike.
been watching since you started almost. absolutely love the channel, keep it up. I am curious about getting an adventure bike since I like up in the colorado mountains. I loved your Suzuki 800de and im thinking about the cfmoto 450MT but I can't find it here in USA. I can find the CFMOTO 450 Ibex, is that the same more or less? Would you say the bike is a better choice for a beginner over the suzuki 800de just because of the weight? Thanks for the video!
Gday mate! Yes, it's the same bike, just a different name for the USA. Yes I'd say the 450 is a much better starting place. A good 30kg lighter and easy to manage. I'd even look at something lighter if you haven't got much dirt or road experience
I bought the HImi 450 but my mate bough the CF moto. I love the Himi but I can tell you that I would have been as happy if I bought the CF moto. We swapped rides and rode through Wombat State park. It is a great bike, love the sound and so smooth!
Thanks for another very good først test! Looked like a wonderful ride 🙂 You are one of my three permanent references, when looking for test and impressions of New bikes ! Thanks for that ! I believe I've read somewhere, that the front ABS can be switched off when entering the menus, but that the 'quick-function' ondt the handlebar only works on the rear ABS and traction control. But I might be wrong - it has happened before 😉 Thanks again !
@@onthebackwheel do you think it is something that can be "fixed" with a future software update? I.E. if enough riders ask the right people nicely it might be added as a setting that allows you to switch off back only, or both back and front.
There's a good reason there's 550 backordered with money down right now in Australia... P.S. SSS Motorcycles in Tamworth, NSW has a tune sorted that fixes up that early throttle jerkiness
i've been looking at it since i test rode it on a cfmoto event. for someone who's mainly on-road but would like some off-road capabilities... this is great!
Looks like the perfect lightweight bike. I think for simplicity I'd still take a DR650, but for a model bike this is the way to go. Great competitor for a Honda CRF 300L Rally for those who just want a little more.
I knew you'd give the 450 a workout right out of the gate! 👍 The trails were a good first challenge. The TFT dash is nicer than my KTM 890 was. I got a budget bike to play around with last week, a Husky Svartpilen 401. Its a hoot on the back roads!
@ Hahahaha! The only difference is I haven’t been getting rid of them. That’s gotta change The only reason I’ve kept the Harley is for my gal. The KLR and old ZZR 1200 have to go next year. I bought some action cam gear. I’m gonna put myself out there for ridicule. 😂
Great first review of your new MT Curtis, you will find the tall seat is night and day in comfort to the stocker. Had to do the same gear lever and rear break adjustment, don’t know why they set them up like that.
Good riding Curtis. Makes me laugh when you have gone sideways a few times and just keep on going. It would be nice to be able to ride like that. Im 56 years old now and a road rider so see how we go when I get back to my 450 MT.
Brilliant , honest review. Getting my in march with bash plate, higher seat , backbusters storm and crash bars ! Any chance you will do basic technically oriented video for beginners riding in dirt please? Thanks Patrick Slovakia
Gday Patrick. Bet you are excited! I have had many request for an off-road video, maybe in the future. I'm hesistant as there are people more qualified than me out there!
@@onthebackwheel you look more than qualified enough. 😎 More qualified riders might overlook details that they assume everyone already knows - take it for granted. We want to be safe riders, not professionals. 😉
I had the throttle cables adjusted at the dealership, way too much play from the factory. With the high seat, you'll definitely want the high screen for highway riding. You'll want to remove the front section of the chain guard, CFMoto was required to add this bit for compliance in Australia but it will hit stuff as the swing arm moves, remove it.
Great first impressions! I’m about the same height and weight as you and the taller seat would definitely be an improvement. The rebound in the shock is very stiff. I set the sag both front and rear. The bike that I set up had the panniers and luggage weight. With that in mind, I ended up with 1 cm added to the shock preload and full preload on the forks to get 60 mm of sag on each end. I ended up with -1 click in compression and -2 clicks in rebound for the forks, and -3 clicks in rebound for the shock. The stock settings are 10 clicks out from full in for both fork and shock.
@ I would say that the forks definitely need stiffer springs. The shock is close. I think that 1 cm preload is close to max. The shock definitely has no shortage of rebound damping! FWIW, I read somewhere that the rear shock damping adjuster also adjusts compression damping at a 3:1 ratio, ie 3 clicks rebound = 1 click compression. I hope this is helpful.
@@onthebackwheel the oem fork springs are multi-rate - some call it progressive, but in this case they have a funky transition from lighter to heacier rate. On the slower sections this can be felt as harsh. Getting a bit heavier linear rate spring will cure both the harshness, and most of the bottoming. (Oem spring rate is 3N/mm transitioning into 5N/mm, installing 5.5 linear is what I'm doing)
I got this model and color about 4 months back. Great bike! But I sold mine before 500 km. At the time, it was one of the areas I lived in first CFMotos. So possibly just set up wrong. The suspension was way out of adjustment, and I had to soften up quite a bit. The throttle was super twitchy. Not in a good way, but where just a small crack on the tarmac rattled to the hands, and that is when the bike would start jerking around. Almost positive it wasn't set up right!
Maybe some people will be looking at this alongside the Kove 450, I think weight, power and fuel range lean toward the Kove I'm surprised that wasn't your choice Curtis.
Well, another great ride and review mate, bit disappointed that you didn’t pop a wheel stand on the road. However, let’s address the elephant in the room.If this and the Himi are sitting side by side in the garage, which one would get the most use, which is the most fun, which is the best all rounder? I’m torn between buying a 450 Himi,a MT 450 or a second hand 800 tiger or 850 bmw.. Should I do a drum roll😂😂. Luv ya work mate..
Haha I'll do some wheelies when she's a bit more run in. I tried some off camera trying to keep the revs down and they were awful 😂. So far, 450MT is my winner, but I'm very wary of that throttle and suspension set up
This summer i bought one of their Gen3 1000 touring quads and I'm shocked at the value for money that CFmoto offers. The old opinions of the brand are just outdated nonsense now. Hope you enjoy the bike dude!
It's a lot, significantly less power and the suspension ultimately isn't as good. However, it's great value and the suspension is better set up for faster riding and better balance
@@onthebackwheel I can't wait to see how you mod it! Indeed, with the low price you end up with a bunch of cash that you can use to fix the issues if you want to ride it hard
Great review Curtis, as usual. It’s a really good bike for the price. When you were on the pegs, did you feel like the handlebars were at the right height, or do you think you’d need bar risers? Lastly, will you be opting for a high fender for it? Can’t wait to see what mods you do to it.
There's a fair bit out there and some easy to get. If you order from CF Moto it's very slow. B&B are doing a whole range along with other Aussie brands and they are all in stock
get the app for your phone, i am sure they did an update for the throttle - the sussers are busy and cannot be fixed with comp+rebound, flighty is how i would describe them - KYB internals though so any good susser guy / girl will create a better valving for you - doesn't help being 41mm of course,,,Super bike, just needs a little bit here and there
I have a CFmoto ATV and have noticed its also twitchy on opening the throttle, I thought it was a CVT problem now im wondering if its a fueling/mapping issue. Any word if this bike has the "T-box" to connect to the app? On other models it sounded like heads-up firmware and maybe the ECU firmware was updatable.
Is that sun visor optically good ? My M2R is shit. Correction, just did a clean & noticed I hadn't removed the protective film, dah. Worth a laugh. 😁 The eyes aren't as good as they once were. So back to the review. Aren't you rev limited while running in ? She does have a good note, 270 cranks always do. Himmy factory tyres are its biggest let down in the Aussie bush (and the bake pedal), Ibex is at least a step above. I read others say the same about the on/off throttle. I would still like to take one for a ride, for reference. Cheers

It's a shame for a mass production bike to have these issues. Probably just first year stuff but oh well. We'll see.
That's disappointing. The overall quality on the CFMOTO does seem a little higher, still a cheap bike though
Those issues you speak of are so minor I would never even factor those in, really easy to fix, as stated numerous times in the comments section...
@@MickH60 They are definitely quality control issues. It's not so easy to cut apart the frame of a bike and reweld parts straight.
when i was watching your Himalayan video i was thinking itll be great if u can review cfmoto, then boom u came out with this banger of a video. I really like ur inputs and ur not afraid to really test the bike.
Cheers mate. Both good things so far
Thanks for the video. Which bike do you prefer, 450mt or himalayan 450?
I need to ride the 450MT yet. MT has more potential with the twin I reckon
We've all got different asses 😂. How are you finding the suspension? Did you get the springs changed for your weight?
@@onthebackwheel no I've left the suspension as it was when I picked it up. I'm only a beginner to off road so I keep my tyres on the ground, or try to
@@FlatBrokeAdventures fair enough mate. Definitely recommend setting your sag, it'll really help your riding

Here in Europe a dealer updated the mapping of it and the throttle is much better now
Yess, haven't watched yet but just commeting how excited I am about this one. Will come back after I watch
Great video Curtis, will follow closely. Ey are you planning to make a Himmi vs CF Moto video? It'll be popular!
Awesome review mate bike looks the goods !
Cheers. Lots of potential
Cool review ✌️😎 good to see someone riding it with power.
Full send or nothing!
@onthebackwheel good to see, about to take mine on a trip. Finished the 1000k run in
@@Tubed-i5n nice mate. How are you finding it?
@@onthebackwheel good very good, smoothest bike I've had ✌️😎
I bought the HImi 450 but my mate bough the CF moto. I love the Himi but I can tell you that I would have been as happy if I bought the CF moto. We swapped rides and rode through Wombat State park. It is a great bike, love the sound and so smooth!
Nice mate, I don't think you can go wrong with either
Thanks for another very good først test! Looked like a wonderful ride 🙂 You are one of my three permanent references, when looking for test and impressions of New bikes ! Thanks for that !
I believe I've read somewhere, that the front ABS can be switched off when entering the menus, but that the 'quick-function' ondt the handlebar only works on the rear ABS and traction control. But I might be wrong - it has happened before 😉
Thanks again !
Thanks mate, appreciate it. I don't believe it can, just the one option in the menu. Looks like a fuse jobbie
@ Ok. Then it happened again … 😉 A good thing then, that the fuses are so easy accessible!
I did see that, I might go with a local fella if I can't fix it myself. And yes, got to be the best selling bike in Aus ATM
Niiice, love your channel mate. been waiting for this video.
Hope it didn't disappoint 😜
i've been looking at it since i test rode it on a cfmoto event. for someone who's mainly on-road but would like some off-road capabilities... this is great!
Perfect for that
Looks like the perfect lightweight bike. I think for simplicity I'd still take a DR650, but for a model bike this is the way to go. Great competitor for a Honda CRF 300L Rally for those who just want a little more.
I knew you'd give the 450 a workout right out of the gate! 👍
The trails were a good first challenge.
The TFT dash is nicer than my KTM 890 was.
I got a budget bike to play around with last week, a Husky Svartpilen 401. Its a hoot on the back roads!
You go through bikes more than me mate 😂
@ Hahahaha! The only difference is I haven’t been getting rid of them.
That’s gotta change
The only reason I’ve kept the Harley is for my gal. The KLR and old ZZR 1200 have to go next year.
I bought some action cam gear. I’m gonna put myself out there for ridicule. 😂
@pinkiewerewolf haha never have too many mate
Good run in ride Curtis! Have you done the on the phone cf update fixed my throttle slack feel ?
Hey mate. Yes I've done the update. I've tweaked the throttle, will see how it is next ride
Great first review of your new MT Curtis, you will find the tall seat is night and day in comfort to the stocker. Had to do the same gear lever and rear break adjustment, don’t know why they set them up like that.
Thanks Peter. Yeah definitely not the right height for boots
It only happened last week. I get it changed when I bring it in for a service. I'll let you know then!
Can you do a comparison video to the himi450?
@@axellness yes, I will be doing one once I've ridden the bike a bit more

Thanks. Lots of us are thinking the same thing.
Am buying one !!!! And that is why I followed you, I want to see how and what accessories you fixing on it
Awesome mate, enjoy. I'll be doing videos on my accessories soon as they are all here
I’ve already pulled the fuse on the abs 😂🍻
Haha good man
Hey mate, where is the ABS fuse it is not written on the service manual ?
@@KampRehberi Remove seat. Open the black fuse box with ‘Battery’ written on it. Remove the end blue 15A fuse🍻
That’s a beautiful color way. For the money it looks great!
I'm liking it too, very nice looking bike
Good riding Curtis. Makes me laugh when you have gone sideways a few times and just keep on going. It would be nice to be able to ride like that. Im 56 years old now and a road rider so see how we go when I get back to my 450 MT.
Just had a bit of practice is all
I made an ABS off toggle switch for my KLR. Probably pretty easy to figure it out on the 450 if you look around.
Good idea. Will see how it is with a better front tyre first
Brilliant , honest review.

Great first ride & review Curtis definitely run in now 😅
Hehe cheers mate
Can't wait to see this one set up !!
Going to be a mean machine once I'm done
I had the throttle cables adjusted at the dealership, way too much play from the factory. With the high seat, you'll definitely want the high screen for highway riding. You'll want to remove the front section of the chain guard, CFMoto was required to add this bit for compliance in Australia but it will hit stuff as the swing arm moves, remove it.
Ok thats good to know, I'll have a look at it ASAP
Been considering this bike but I'm hanging back for longer term Reliability too soon for me but l do love this bike 👍😉
Yeah it's a bit of an unknown, even if the motor has been around a little while in their sports bike
That's good to know about the preload mate. Full preload, must be very close to needing harder springs
(Oem spring rate is 3N/mm transitioning into 5N/mm, installing 5.5 linear is what I'm doing)
another top review mate, should i buy this or another DRZ?
Thanks mate. Depends on the riding you're doing

A nice gentle break in. just what the doctor ordered. LOL
Only way to do it
I got this model and color about 4 months back.
Sounds very familiar mate and what a lot of people are saying. I think I'll be able to tune it out. Did you set up your sag?
Maybe some people will be looking at this alongside the Kove 450, I think weight, power and fuel range lean toward the Kove I'm surprised that wasn't your choice Curtis.
We don't get Kove in Aus sadly. Been in talks for ages but hasn't happened
So far, 450MT is my winner, but I'm very wary of that throttle and suspension set up
Also, vstrom 800 is crazy value still, you can get one for 15k ATM
Yeah was looking at the storm.but not grabbing me.
@davidjehan1579 fair enough. Some great options out there
Great Review, this tracks look fantastic!, where are they?
Hi, Mt Mee, QLD
Hello from Germany 🇩🇪. Nice video.
There is a software update for the throttle problem.
Looking forward to see the next video.
Hi! It's all updated, hoping some tweaks will fix it up
Could you please share the links to accessories, especially the high seat.
That is just on the CFmoto website. B&B engineering and mustard bikes have lots too
Should consider the GoldenTyre GT823kh tyres I've heard the Enduro Trails can wear out quickly
I'll have a look mate, only hear good things about Golden tyre
This summer i bought one of their Gen3 1000 touring quads and I'm shocked at the value for money that CFmoto offers. The old opinions of the brand are just outdated nonsense now. Hope you enjoy the bike dude!
Cheers mate. The quads have a good rep now days
How does it feel compared to the V-strom DE800? I have been saving for the V-strom (coming from a 2004 DL650) but had my eye on the CF-Moto as well…
It's a lot, significantly less power and the suspension ultimately isn't as good.
Hey mate. The bars felt a little low so I rolled them forward. Was very happy with that, but need to do some more riding to give a definitive answer
Looks like a nice bike, just a tad too high at freeway speeds. Comparison to the KLR?
Looks like a taller rear tyre and/or front sprocket fix that
I'll see how you get on with it. Curious on the tall seat, because as is, it's too short for me. Love the look and the sound is really nice.
Where are all the after market bling bits coming from? I.e. bash plate, high seat, end can and such Are they readily available for it?
There's a fair bit out there and some easy to get. If you order from CF Moto it's very slow. B&B are doing a whole range along with other Aussie brands and they are all in stock
@ Nice one cheers…. I’ve had KTM’s for years, but the more I read about these bikes the more tempting they become. Great review we’ll done. 👍🏻

get the app for your phone, i am sure they did an update for the throttle - the sussers are busy and cannot be fixed with comp+rebound, flighty is how i would describe them - KYB internals though so any good susser guy / girl will create a better valving for you - doesn't help being 41mm of course,,,Super bike, just needs a little bit here and there
Yeah keen to mod and tune it to my liking. My map is all updated
Yes its your can get the app and update it through the bike too. Cool idea and super easy to do
