    Hi, mechanic here. Hemi tic is notorious accross ALL v6 pentastars and all V8 Hemi. Its not a matter of if... its when. Always the same problem. Roller rockers bearings go bad, causing the adjusters to run all the way out, causing the roller to tik on the cam shaft.
    If its a PENTASTAR V6 the aft right roller rocker bearing is the first to go.
    If its a HEMI V8 it could be either the left or the right side. Sad part is, people confuse this with a legit exhaust leak.
    They dont bring it in soon enough, and I ALWAYS end up having to replace the camshaft. It drives the price from $250 (depending on the year) to $2000.
    Dont keep driving it, take it to a shop and save yourself a couple thousand of dollars.
    Or pull the valve covers turn the belt by hand, and wiggle each lifter until you find the loose one. It will stand out like a sore thumb.
    Depending on the position, you can slightly lift the camshaft and change both the lifter and adjuster at the same time.
    The parts are only $27 bucks for both at the dealer. And the dealers ALWAYS have these in stock (imagine that)
    If you drive like grandma, sure, every 4 to 5k oil change. If you drive like me... change it every 2-3k miles.
    You cant drive it like an ass and go the full 5k range interval.

    The Hemi tick is do to the MDS (multi displacement system). It's the system that shuts off half the cylinders when cruising down the highway for fuel economy. It causes an oiling issue. There is a MDS delete kit that fixes that problem. From what I have read. Getting rid of it also increases performance. So, it's a good buy.

      nope, it’s actually caused by lack of oil to the lifters non mds lifters get the same thing

    Hey louie I do have a question? have you ever look into your manual? Because when I purchased my 2021 year model. The manual have some information regarding specifically on the HEMI engines. Page 292 in my manual It states, "HEMI engine's at times can tick right after startup and then quiet down after 30 seconds. This is normal and will not harm the engine. This characteristic can be caused by short drive cycles. The other causes could be if the vehicle is unused for an extended oil changes or extended idling". If the engine continues to tick go to the nearest dealership.

  • @Silver891_
    @Silver891_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    General rule on American engine , especially Hemi and ls ,, if the displacement over 6.0 eventually it will tick .. that’s due too crappy valve train manufacturing component. So if you want to get rid of it before hearing it .
    Change the lifters and the valve springs before 35 k miles .

  • @davidpowell6271
    @davidpowell6271 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Non-MDS lifters go too, so deleting MDS is not the answer. Best ptevention is to chsnge the oil pump to a Melling 10452HV, 20% extra oil volume. Also a high quality 5w-30 oil changed every 3,000 miles. I have just bought a 2015 Jeep GC 5.7 with only 13,000 miles. I have ordered the Melling from Summit.

    • @mattg5446
      @mattg5446 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bossstrick I have had many ppl tell me its a good way to keep excess moisture from building up in ur engine bc ur not running it a lot and getting it warm. And oil is less effective as it ages. So changing ur oil at least twice a year is recommended if ur not hitting the mileage by then like me. Helps with the longevity of ur engine👍

      Can't keep em long. They aren't reliable. If you have a hemi get a second car. And baby the hemi. It will last. If you use that engine every single day you'll kill the engine faster. Its a high performance engine n it works hard.

  • @JBWDC3
    @JBWDC3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question….would Hemi tick have something to do with the cylinder deactivation? My moms 2018 Mazda CX-5 has cylinder deactivation, and when her car sits for a long period of time (she doesn’t drive it much, maybe once a week), it’ll tick. We took it to Mazda and they said that’s normal for those engines because of the Skyactiv technology in the engine for the cylinder deactivation, so the lifters make that noise, but once you drive it for a few mins it stops. Would that be the same thing for mopar?

    • @louiexiii91

  • @myronallen2237
    @myronallen2237 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @MLProductions.1

    MDS delete is just the best thing. Every car with cylinder deactivation has this issue and it's just BS. If you want to stay stock just get extended bumper to bumper warranty. Ziegler group sells them for $1800 OTD 7 years 120k miles bumper to bumper. I wouldn't keep my dodge out of warranty. It's Mopar after all

    I don’t understand why you would add more body panels to a car that was straight purposefully optioned out with extra body panels. If you run these cars normally & on occasion hard for about 3 years (whilst maintaining them correctly), they shouldn’t suffer any more problems than an LS or any other respectable V8 in it’s class would. All of them are about equal in the reliability/performance department. I have owned both Chevy’s & Mopars at this point, and quite a few Hondas. Engines go when they go & almost everything these days is backed up by years of development. Run your engine how you want it ran & remember to keep up with service accordingly. You’ll be fine 99% of the time if you do just that.
