Man, I am working a 12 hour shift watching security cameras and a quick glance over plus hearing your voice, your telling of personal stories and the history of one of my favorite franchises and the same day as Ragnarök hit PC. thank you for it. RIP to your cool dad, patches, and Shad you sir are awesome thank you for all the work you do.
I came to this channel for the History of Mortal Kombat. I stayed for the History of God Of War, I'll continue to stay for the History of Resident Evil. The amount of amazing content on this channel is second to none, never mind the replay-ability of the videos
When it came to God of War 3 and that final fight with Zeus I legit thought something was wrong with my game because I pressed that button over and over again for so long. When I realized that the beating only stopped when the player stops the beating made everything sink in and I was just jaw dropped at everything I witnessed with all three games. As I ordered the original trilogy at the same time since I didn’t get the chance when I was younger…such an incredible experience.
No disrespect to the newer GoW games, but man do i miss the classic series. I wish they'd make a game like that again. Those were the best games in the series imo.
I love your ability to tell a story Ian. I know you didn't create the stories. It's how you tell stories that matters. You paint a vivid picture. I can feel your love and passion for the GOW franchise. The way you're talking about GOW makes me feel sorry I missed out.
This is easily one of the best love letters to gaming ever. I appreciate your work and talent! This made me well up with tears as I relived all those moments again. I CANNOT wait to see your Ragnarok video!
Thank you, my dude. There is no Ragnarok video incoming, sorry. This was all a lead up to Ragnarok, and for whatever reason, this entire God Of War series totally bombed for me as far as views and performance goes. No idea why! But if you liked this, I think you'd love my History Ofs on Resident Evil, Halloween, a bunch of wrestling games, Mortal Kombat, etc. New retrospective dropping Child's Play tomorrow. Much to see. Thanks for being here!
This entire “History Of”, was EASILY one of your all time best projects, Ian. Everything I learned of this series and why it’s so special, was all because of your AWESOME stories, and I can’t thank you enough for it all, Ian. Although you say that it bombed, this will forever be a favorite of mine, and I mean it all the way. Thank you so much for this one, and I can’t wait for the next “History Of” next year. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Ian, and I’ll see you again soon.😊❤️
Every history of project should have a million+ views … they are art, each one it’s own little verbal masterpiece that’ll run you through a gauntlet of emotions, you might laugh, cry, cheer, jeer, clap or sit silently in astonishment as Ian learns ya sumphin lol seriously you can learn alot. I not at all embarrassed to say they I was sobbing like a binkyless baby near the end of the Mortal Kombat series!!
Ian, this is probably your best work. Ive been watching your content since History of WCW games, and MK, and i could not get enough of your content. Im the same age as you, so ive lived through all these games, and evem though some of them were stank ass, there's still some of the best games in our generation. God of War is, by far the best hack n slash game, of all time.
Just coming back to revisit the 2018 portion of this series now that I’ve played through the game. I had a blast, and I’m deciding now whether to keep going through the side quests or to dive right into Ragnarok. I think I’m due for a vacation in January and I’m excited to jump into the new one. Great series as I’ve said before. You kept me interested the whole time, and got me invested. Super hyped to play more.
I just realized that the grave diggers voice actor in the first god of war is the same voice actor as Colonel Campbell in Metal Gear Solid… Paul Eiding is so good at voice acting.
I love all of the history series. My viewing fluctuates, but as soon as i see the full collections? I am immediately in, no matter the time commitment.
Once I finish watching your video on mk movies I'll move onto this. Your videos have helped waiting to get some teeth pulled bearable. So thankfully for people on TH-cam that love that same shit I did growing up.
This retrospective is fuckin amazing! It truly is breaks my heart to know that this whole thing bombed for you 616 I blame TH-cam's broken algorithm. Thanks again for all you do!💜
Ian this is some of your best work to date. I know you weren’t happy with its performance but you have always made me fall in love with games I’ve NEVER played before simply through your work and all that goes into it, and this is no exception. I’m always going to hold onto hope that you’ll review Ragnarok to hear your thoughts. Thanks for everything you do, and btw Scream Sequence is KILLING IT THIS YEAR
Thanks dude. I'm super happy with how this full movie version has performed, but unfortunately TH-cam doesn't allow me to make a single penny on it. Really, really crushing. But whatever. At least people finally saw it. Thanks for the kind words on Scream Sequence, I'm still not done with it. Two left on the docket.
A bit of trivia for you. Corey Barlog wanted to develop God of War 2 on the PlayStation 3. I believe he stated this when he did his God of War Game Directors Panel. Head of Worldwide Studios Shu Yoshida, whom he and Scott Rodhe seem to spend quite a bit of time at SMS, quickly spoke with Corey and told him he needed to develop God of War 2 for PS2 telling Barlog "trust me". I don't think Yoshida was giving Barlog a direct order, yet, but Barlog describes it as though Yoshida was giving him a choice but a strong recommendation to stay where he was at. Bear in mind, Yoshida isn't some zombie suit that works for PlayStation, unlike so many Xbox Execs that graduated college with the help of being part of a sorority or fraternity spending many a night getting drunk, got degrees in business and marketing, landed a job at Xbox because maybe nobody else would take them, and are now giving orders to game designers thatve been doing this for a long time. Don't believe me? What would you say is Xbox's biggest franchise? I'm gonna Xbox's GoW series whose creative director liked to mess with Sony and disrupt their big exclusives. He'd always plant something in the way of Killzones launches but then ended up starting Boss Key Studios with a creative director from Guerilla Games. Yeah, anyway, Gears of War Collectors Edition came with a BONUS DISC DVD with a video titled "The Road to E3" pointing out how Xbox Executives worked with devs. They wanted to be Disney, they wanted to do what Nintendo was doing to be Nintendo. They went in their trying to strip the lancer from the game because it was too violent and didn't want it shown at E3. Cliff Blezinski fought it, as did Rod Ferguson and someone the two seemed to fall in love with Microsoft. I'd be furious. Back to my point, sorry, Yoshida and Scott Rodhe are long time gamers. Rodhe came from SEGA of America where he was a game tester while going to school so he probably knew SCEAs first CEO Steve Race who was Tom Kalinskis left hand man so Scott Rodhe has been around the block many times and knows his stuff. Yoshida was a PRODUCER for The Legend of Dragoon, he knows his stuff and he likely grew up on Nintendo and Anime, no doubt, a complete and total nerd PlayStation fans can't help but love, even to this day. Anyway, Yoshida is a legend at SMS and David Jaffe will, to this day, speak very highly of Yoshida and he'll tell you Scott Rodhe is one of, if not, the smartest man he's ever met. Probably a better CEO candidate than Jim Ryan but, I'm guessing Sony approached Yoshida and Rodhe and they both turned it down, I bet, for more time with their family. So, Corey Barlog, who has the utmost respect for Yoshida and knows he knows what he's doing, obviously, develops God of War 2 for PS2 and it's a major hit and sells a ton of copies. Had be developed it for PS3, probably wouldn't have done nearly as well with such a small install base. It's not that Yoshida had little faith in the PS3, he just knew that such an established IP as God of War needed a bigger install base while devs were still growing on PS3 and Heavenly Sword was on the way. So, Barlog saw massive success and is considered the best God of War director. So, when Barlog returned for God of War reboot, he developed on the PS4. Released the game, it got perfect reviews and was that years Game of the Year up against Spider-man 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Celeste, Monster Hunter World, and one more I can't remember and it won! Xbox coverts God of War, they want it more than Uncharted or The Last of Us and they'll never have it, but they want it. I have never played a single game in this series, passing it over as just another action game. After watching this, I need to jump on this train as soon as possible.
Great Video I love god of war so much! 123 me everytime!! 1 for the story 2 for the combat and 3, for everything 🔥🔥 one of the greatest video game franchises of all time
Dude another awesome job. I love this vid. I had to dry some tears at the end. Like I said before you keep it up. I'll keep coming back. Now question. Are you doing Ragnarok too?
I found you from your History of Mortal Kombat megavideo, sorry it took me almost a year to watch this. I’ve never actually played GoW but I watched my family play it and it looked pretty awesome 🤩 After watching this I guess I’ll have to get into it myself. 🤘

First time watching your content very impressed on MK1 theories and content, so I have subscribed and will go and like all of videos I view, but great work keep it coming 🔥🔥🔥✌👍
@616Entertainment Love your Fantastic videos, I always fall Asleep to all of your Amazing videos, God bless you and I'll always support this Channel on TH-cam. #DanDan4LifeBrother 🙏🏾🏆🎁🎅🏻🎅🏾
Everytime a God of War Game starts, u have to expect a SUPER HUGE, GIGANTIC ENEMY. In all of them so I love to be surprised when I see for the first time that huge 1st ENEMY. 😮 😊😂😂
a little interesting piece of info comes from Athena's GOW3 Actress, she says that Athena might've had ulterior motives and might have not been so benevolent from the beginning indicating that everything that Kratos did was her manipulations and that once she was done using him she would toss him aside. in fact this is even more implied in GOW 2018 she mocks him and such and says he will always be a monster which Kratos responds with this." I know....but i am your monster no longer". hinting that Athena had been vying for the Throne of Olympus long before the Prequels and main games. it also hints that all gods are incredibly Selfish and Arrogant to the point that they would cause chaos just for entertainment, Thor: Love and Thunder even proves this, well all gods are not like Zeus and the ones Kratos kills same with God of War Norse Saga but most of them are that way
No, I won't be doing a full retrospective on Ragnarok. Maybe a review discussion with guests, but definitely not one of these. This series performed terribly for me, unfortunately. It'd be foolish to do more.
Absolutely. The prequels were made after the original trilogy, so all of us who were on board form the start, that's how we played the series, too. Hahahaha
Fantastic work once again Ian, I’ve never picked up God of War but after experiencing your retrospective it’s on the list, it’s a shame you won’t be covering ragnarock 😢 but thank you for this! Can’t wait for more video game history
@@616Entertainment I spent my entire morning watching your fight for new York vids, it really helps with work. You yourself as a whole, are underrated good sir. Be well
Tbh i wish we could get a remaster of the first 2 games and the psp titles on modern hardware, 3 still looks amazing on the ps3 and ps4 so it wouldnt really need it.
@@616EntertainmentIan, this is amazing - I have no earthly fucking idea how this bombed. I literally knew nothing about this game, but watched because how much I enjoy your content. I’m now figuring out a way to see how I can play all of these, despite being an xbox owner. This is incredible stuff.
@@ericksheldon3870 Much appreciated, thank you. I'm really proud of the whole thing. I continue to make things outside of the wrestling/Mortal Kombat bubble and some of it is just completely rejected and never finds a wider audience. It is what it is. It's not going to stop me, hahaha. I like more than just wrestling and MK.
You should do some history of but a whole game studio like insomniac or rare or such but only for relevant years or studios that mean something to do you. Or a history of certain DC comic story lines
I called the number and it was a very interesting phone call with crayons and it was very interesting and very cool, so yeah, it was really cool phone call

Even now as you draw your last breath you choose to defy me😂❤
Good series man. It makes me wanna check out the games.
awesome video 👍👍 you should do a history of dead space and bioshock
I will watch all of this, even if I get fired for it

Your an great content creator👍🏾💪🏾💯
Everytime a God of War Game starts, u have to expect a SUPER HUGE, GIGANTIC ENEMY. In all of them so I love to be surprised when I see for the first time that huge 1st ENEMY. 😮 😊😂😂
I beat God of war 2018 after it's release and i loved the story and everything even the controls were awesome and felt right
Love it
a little interesting piece of info comes from Athena's GOW3 Actress, she says that Athena might've had ulterior motives and might have not been so benevolent from the beginning indicating that everything that Kratos did was her manipulations and that once she was done using him she would toss him aside.
in fact this is even more implied in GOW 2018 she mocks him and such and says he will always be a monster which Kratos responds with this." I know....but i am your monster no longer". hinting that Athena had been vying for the Throne of Olympus long before the Prequels and main games.
it also hints that all gods are incredibly Selfish and Arrogant to the point that they would cause chaos just for entertainment, Thor: Love and Thunder even proves this, well all gods are not like Zeus and the ones Kratos kills same with God of War Norse Saga but most of them are that way
Yo man love these videos on full story's will We get one for the new god of war
No, I won't be doing a full retrospective on Ragnarok. Maybe a review discussion with guests, but definitely not one of these. This series performed terribly for me, unfortunately. It'd be foolish to do more.
My favorite of yours, smackdown a close second
Great video
Best stuff of all that shit, i love so much.
♥️ thanks for uploading.
I've been watching the last part over and over again to see any hints or flashs on the screen so I can guess what the next "History Of" series is.
I hope we get more History episode!
36:17 yea, I just called the number and feel inspired to challenge Gods. 😂
And it is officially disconnected folks😔
@616Entertainment Hey Ian you plan on doing a retrospective on Rangnarok?
The village Kratos attacked in GoW 1 wasn't his own. His wife and daughter were taken to that village by Ares.
Would I be able to skip the prequels and just play the first three?
Absolutely. The prequels were made after the original trilogy, so all of us who were on board form the start, that's how we played the series, too. Hahahaha
Had to rewind it because I thought he said resident evil 6 was his favorite game of all time when he actually said resident evil from 1996
Microsoft owns Bethesda now ?!?!!? I love your channel
Lmao I also called it the guitar hero puzzle😂
honestly because of mk and this i can hear how much his dad ment to him without him needing to say that he loved him
Is anyone going to talk about how obvious the reveal of Zeus being kratos’ father was
Any chance you can cover Diablo anytime in the future?
Fantastic work once again Ian, I’ve never picked up God of War but after experiencing your retrospective it’s on the list, it’s a shame you won’t be covering ragnarock 😢 but thank you for this!
Can’t wait for more video game history
Wow! I just call that number and it still works
CRIMINALLY UNDER-LIKED VIDEO
This whole series really under-performed for me, it was kinda shocking how badly it performed. Thank you for watching, I appreciate it.
@@616Entertainment
I spent my entire morning watching your fight for new York vids, it really helps with work.
You yourself as a whole, are underrated good sir.
Be well
I appreciate the kind words. Much, much more on the way.
Tbh i wish we could get a remaster of the first 2 games and the psp titles on modern hardware, 3 still looks amazing on the ps3 and ps4 so it wouldnt really need it.
How the hell does this only have 53,000 views???
This is more watched than any of the individual parts, too. This series totally bombed for me. Thanks for watching.
@@616Entertainment I’m really looking forward to the UFC series, Undisputed 3 and even EA’s UFC 2 are absolutely my favorites.
@@ericksheldon3870 Part I has been up for weeks! Check it out. Part II coming soon.
