During the wolf-wrangler challenge attempts, I found out that to lower the chance of wolf zigzagging while charging you, it is best to walk to the wolf to trigger the charge (instead of drawing the bow when the wolf is farther away), then as the wolf charges I walk backward and aim quickly. By the way you should try the wolf-wrangler challenge. BigFish and Slid_homes have set a really good time for this speed run.
There are multiple ways to do it, I just found this to be the most reliable. It's more or less the same thing as both prevent the wolf from moving unpredictably, the video strat gives you more time to line up the shot, though aiming quickly works even when exhausted. I considered WW but blizzards kinda kill it for me, as wolves disappear completely, so a poorly timed blizzard can kill a good run. I think the challenge would be more fun with blizzards off. Either way I might try it with a very unusual approach soon.
I have to remember the bit about target regions when I switch between TLD and the Hunter: Call of the Wild game I also like to play, because TLD prioritizes headshots (at least until you get to weapon skill level 4-5) while H:CotW and most more-realistic hunting sims like it emphasize targeting animals' front torso vital organs (heart/lungs) to get an efficiently quick & "ethical" kill, as well as a better chance at a "clean" trophy harvest. Which is a little bit ironic since Raph has said he doesn't want TLD to become a shooter, but going for the headshot is second-nature for FPS gamers.
Started watching your videos a few days ago when I decided to get back into tld (more seriously this time) and they have all been very helpful; thanks!
Great analysis. Also for crosshairs... crosshair x with the windows store game bar integration is the best crosshair that exists. The game bar integration makes it a widget that will work even in fullscreen (without borderless window mode). I use this crosshair all the time in many different games. You can design your own crosshair using in app sliders, or you can make a image crosshair and apply it. So far as I know, no anti-cheat will ban for this as it's literally a windows game bar integration when set up properly. I've used it for years now. However, in the long dark crosshair alignment might be required beyond just centering it on the screen.
Great videos, so comprehensive analysis. If you interested, i have an idea for you future investigations: all about throwing (spawning) items onto the seashore. Like information about area's, spots where its happening, periods of spawning, loot on different difficulties and other factor's. This theme may be interesting because its an infinity source of some gaming resources and because there isn't much decent information on youtube and wiki
oh yeah I'd love to do a beachcombing video eventually, I have quite a few ideas. I'm gonna do a timberwolf and a poison wolf video first and not sure about priority after that.
Another very excellent and detailed video. I'm finding your videos very useful. Atheenon has another helpful tip. He just used a marker to put a dot on the middle of his screen. I used a small piece of masking tape on mine. It helps a lot
This was great! I’ve been playing a while but still working on my aiming skills 🥴 I would get so mad when my revolver headshot still led to a struggle! Now I know why lol
Two techniques I've used for almost 10 years now: (1) Naked Knifefighter: Have 2 or more bandages and a knife. Locate the wolf you're looking to eat...strip naked before aggroing (rapid double-click slots, DONT use the idiotic buttons). Aggro, stab the wolf with your knife. When he runs off bleeding, bandage and antiseptic any wounds (usually just one), rapid double click to put your clothes back on. Follow the trail until he bleeds out. No damage to your gear, costs you renewable OMB and a half piece of cloth. (2) One Shot 2 Kills: Aggro the wolf, loop around a deer or rabbit, wolf engages the deer. Upon killing the deer, he will be standing static eating which makes the kill shot easy. One round fired, a hell of a lot of meat and such.
It annoys me that you can shoot a wolf between the eyes with the revolver at point blank range and it'll still attack you. I can accept it not dying instantly but it should at least be scared off.
That was just me spawning and killing many wolves for testing purposes. The carcasses despawn after a couple of days, so there's no way to get this many normally.
Bash is the David Attenborough of TLD.
I've started playing on Stalker difficulty recently. Once I got arrows, the game just turned into an FPS with snow.
Thanks for what you do bashrobe, your videos are super informative and have helped maximize my longevity in the long dark.

I know a lot about the game, but I always learn something new from these. Thank you!

Great video! I get nervous around wolves but this will help me.

Nice video👍🏾
Nicely done! Loved the video.
Super informative. Thank you!
Does the flare gun bug effect other animals too??
timberwolves are the same as wolves, bears aren't affected, and moose never bleed out so you will never crit with flare guns
Great job on the video.. any chance we could have one like this regarding timberwolf strategies... cheers
You're going to like the next video... 😀
Great video, thanks
Perfect video

Can you really leave 88 million wolf bodies laying around without them despawning?
