  • This is a play-through using Sho Shinjo in the Saturn game Battle Arena Toshinden Remix. Read on below for more information...
    Sho is a hidden boss in 1P Game mode. He can be fought against by playing through the game, getting up to Gaia without using a continue. He is an unlockable playable character.
    ===== HOW TO SELECT SHO =====
    There are 2 methods to unlock him, as follows:
    ---- FIRST METHOD ----
    The first method is to simply play through and complete Story Mode without using any continues. This should unlock Gaia, Sho and Cupido. Sho appears on the right end of the grid on the character select screen, next to Gaia.
    ---- SECOND METHOD ----
    The second method requires a boss input code, here's how to do it:
    On the main title screen where it says 'Press Start Button', input the following:
    Up, Down, X, B, A, Y, C, Z, START
    If you've done it correctly, you'll hear a voice when you press Start. This also unlocks Gaia and Cupido as well.
    ===== ABOUT SHO =====
    Sho is the master and older brother of Eiji. He trained both his younger brother and Kayin in the way of the sword, before leaving them without notice. He has since traveled around the world under the alias of "The Stranger", searching for strong opponents whom he ends up defeating.
    In the first Toshinden tournament (Toshinden 1), he met and fought against a woman named Cupido who was from the Himitsu Kessha organisation. They soon fell in love and eventually had a son named Subaru.
    Gameplay-wise, at the root he is basically an "alternative" version of Eiji and Kayin, as he shares their basics and special moves in all of the Toshinden fighting games he has appeared in. He is basically the "Akuma" of Toshinden, with Eiji and Kayin being the "Ryu" and "Ken" respectively.
    Sho is one of the best characters in the game. He has virtually all of Eiji's and Kayin's basics and special moves combined, with some of these moves further enhanced. He is also faster than the both of them as well - he does almost everything faster than them that it's almost like he is in "turbo" mode.
    Design-wise, this guy looks as if he belongs in a JRPG rather than Toshinden.
    ===== ABOUT TOSHINDEN REMIX =====
    This is basically an enhanced version of the original Battle Arena Toshinden made specially for the Sega Saturn. It is called Toshinden S in Japan.
    The most significant additions of Remix are: a new character named Cupido, who acts as a final boss and hidden playable character; and also a decent Story Mode for each of the regular characters which feature voice acting and specific character image portraits made just for it. This mode effectively allows you to get a good insight into the character's story backgrounds, their relationships and interactions with the other characters, and the reasons on why they had entered into the tournament.

    We need Toshinden vs. Street Fighter so we can play as Sho, Ryu, and Ken.

    Hey why is Ellis's outfit transparent instead of mesh? Is this a modded/patched ROM? Does the emulator have some sort of correction option on it or something?

    I thought BaT was a weak - hard attack fighter. You did three versions of his uppercut? I'll have to add that to my list. Also, you did his secret move against Ellis. I wonder if it's hard. I just remember some of the secret moves being insane with that era's unknown input leniency. The last time I spoke to you about this game I checked Kayin's flash kick breaking projectiles. Reminds me of how big a project I had in mind for that game. Basic rule of thumb was sparkles break projectiles.
    7:20 wow that hurt. 7:29 that was some good thinking. I'm still not impressed though. 8:00 wow it's even "mistier" than last time. 10:44 what? Why is it so weak? Very suspicious. It's good Sofia's stage doesn't remind me of a giant Cheerio.
    Reads ending . . . . . Sho looking for That Man? His PS1 character portrait is better obviously. It elicits the artistic expression of royalty don't you think?
    Also, when will you be playing the PC version to show off Earthworm Jim as Rungo. We are all dying to see that obviously.

      Regarding his Helicopter Slash, he has two separate versions of the move - one that goes vertically straight up; and the other one which has a 45 degree angle to it. The vertical one belongs to Eiji, and the 45 degree one belongs to Kayin.

      @@Krizalid99v2 I recognize the types, but you appear to have done a short vertical one, a dashing vertical one, and another that is angled.

      F,D,DF + [Slash] is Eiji's one (LS = short vertical; HS = dash vertical) / B,D,DB + [Slash] is Kayin's one (LS = short 45 degree; HS = dash 45 degree).

      In this case nope.

      Absolutely, it was much clearer than the Saturn and PC versions and had full 3D stages, where the Saturn and PC versions didn't. Also the sound effect and voice quality is waaay better on PS1. Saturn's is crunchy, awkwardly pitched and glitches out half the time.

      Yes, the PSOne version had better graphics for the character models and backgrounds were in full 3D apparently. However, in terms of everything else? The Saturn has better controls, an exclusive story mode that really fleshed things out and I actually prefer the 2D backgrounds. Some of them like Duke's, Mondo's and Gaia's stages looked better as they didn't have the distracting elements to them. Gaia's stage even had a cool, psychedelic effect not present in the PSOne version. So sure, the PSOne version had way better character models and ran faster, but the Saturn version had some nice things to separate it in return.
