Who's holding the people that rehired GB in the first place accountable? Who the f*ck rehires the coach you just fired (in the wake of incompetence and scandals no less)? This is what people should be talking about. Clean house in the entire federation. Don't let Gregg be a mere sacrificial lamb.

You're giving them too much credit, they didn't fire him. He left the team because his contract ran out, they didn't want to can him because he was their guy. As far as the "scandal" they figured (and were right) they could ride out the media attention because they knew there weren't enough people who cared.

Probably so he can watch good football...Venezuela and Canada is a bracket game in Copa today, Portugal vs France is a bracket game in the Euros today, which one would you want to watch? They played the "it will go away thing" before. They let Berhalter's contract lapse and pretended to do a comprehensive search for the next coach. But it was just a delaying tactic to allow things to blow over so they could keep Berhalter. And that action is part of why people are so angry right now. The vitriol isn't so much towards Berhalter it's towards USSF.
If Berhalter isn't fired I won't follow the national team any more. I'll follow the players with their club team but I won't watch an USNT games. Because it won't be the national team. It will be the team of a small group of people who have control of the national player pool.

After last night, Ecuador has already fired it's head coach. Yeah- less than 5 hours after the loss. That's commitment to wanting to become a better team. USSF is unserious when it comes to men's soccer. The appear committed to the women's game, but not to the men. I'd be happily surprised if you can address this seeing that you're owned by Disney.

    • @ZeroFamilon
      @ZeroFamilon 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

So true. At this point, the federation only keeps the men's team around to finance the women through their "equal pay" act. The women got more prize money from taking 50% of the men's prize money in the 22 World Cup then they earned from winning the 2 previous Women's World Cups. So much for equality. Maybe if the men didn't have to give away half their money they could afford a better coach.

I've never seen an organization hold its clients in such contempt as US Soccer. The hiring of Berhalter as the brother of an executive in US Soccer, then his rehire against the public opinion of doing so and after a particularly surreptitious and convoluted "search". On top of this, there are the price gouging ticket prices for friendlies and official matches in shameless money grabs which keeps out average fans and limits crowd sizes (and support) in US matches, something they don't do for the women.

@thechameleon2636 you don't know that. Nobody knows what would or wouldn't be attractive to a coach about a job. Be it money, short contract, destination, international coaching, etc. The usa isn't some small country with no financial backing and terrible players. We have decent players and a lot of money. We are also hosting the wc. We have low expectations, which means no pressure on these coaches. A successful wc to most American is getting out of the group and probably the first round of the knockout stage.
Klopp is burnt out from the daily grind, and the pressure of coaching in England. Potchettino went on a large hiatus before taking the Chelsea job. Lasted one year with a terrible squad because of the pressure of English media and unrealistic expectations. He was constantly having to defend himself. It's not like that in america.
I guarantee you 1000% I could get Potchettino to coach the usa. It just come down to money and if the US is willing to spend.

Let us check the Titles list:
    2021 CNL
    2021 Gold Cup
    2023 CNL
    2024 CNL
But exited Copa America in group stage, and stupidly I might add.
The CNL or CONCACAF Nations League is NOT to be compared to Copa America, which is extremely useful if you are ambitious in the World Cup competition.
    The Gold Cup same thing.
This doesn't mean that CNL and Gold Cup are nothing, but again if you're ambitious to win the world cup or make a great appearance, you have to first move in on Copa America.
National Teams who dominate Copa America one year, have a greater chance in the World Cup, and it's the same exact comparison for Euro or CAF winners.
You have to become number 1 in your Continent before you can be a serious contender for FIFA's world Cup. No world cup champion has ever skipped on winning their Continent's top competition which the Copa America is for us in the United States.
You have to win Copa America to become a real contender for FIFA World Cup, it's not a rule but it's a right of Passage. So we're judging Mr. Berhalter on realistic basis and on the Ambition level of the FANs.
In my book, you have no business hosting Copa America if you have no plans to win it.
And if you exit it from the first round, then you're not up to the challenges of FIFA World Cup.
Based on Gregg's appearance in Copa America, expect to do as bad or maybe worst at the World Cup in 2026. This is a common sense view, a logical conclusion.
Of course miracles happen but what's the point of thinking you have a great coach or any coach if you're going to win on the basis of... "why not" ?

    • @texanman7191

While Copa America is much better than any CONCACAF tournament, it doesn't have a lot of value in it.
Winning the Copa America trophy or doing well in the tournament doesn't guarantee the team will do well in FIFA matches.
The United States fell victim to this. They were the only CONCACAF team to make it further in Copa America 2016 and did well against CONMEBOL teams. Guess what happened to the USA the year after that.... that same USA team failed to qualify to the World Cup 2018.

Dunno if anybody from espn reads these comments, but I'm a member of supporters groups for the Columbus Crew. There was a poll put out, spurred by a conversation with a Cinci fan, asking if fans would prefer to win an MLS Cup or World Cup. The vast majority of people picked the MLS Cup, and I think it was the same for Cinci supporters. That tells me how much USSF has failed growing the game and failed to present a positive, competitive image to its fans. We've already had multiple MLS Cup wins, but our fans feel more valued and listened to by a corporate MLS office, owned by an oil tycoon, than their national team's leadership, and have grown a stronger connection to it. I extremely doubt Man Utd ultras would pick another prem title over a world cup.

I think this US program has a micro problem and a macro problem.
Micro problem is Gregg Berhalter tactics and system is clearly not getting the best of this team. This team has no firm identity when they compete. They struggle to beat Jamaica and Panama on home soil.
Macro problem - This golden generation is not as good as the hype it has been getting. Most of the roster are squad players in Europe and Pulisic would just be “a guy” in any top European or South American National side.
If the US want to be seen as equals to the Top 10 in the world , the team needs at least 5 players on the level of Pulisic .. not just 1.

He was a mediocre MLS coach, and never should have been hired in the first place. Unfortunately, as bad as he is as a coach the people in charge of the program are even worse than him at their jobs. We could have all the talent in the world but I doubt our federation would be able to accomplish anything, way too many hiring of buddies / friends instead of the right people for the job. The U.S, federation treats the program like a fraternity more so than a national team sports program, it’s only about who you know with regard to their hiring choices.

Obviously these guys have to play the game that is American soccer pubditry but EVERY other major panel talking about this US team and federation have been doing nothing but blowing smoke up the Federation's @$$; even these guys have been guilty of it. The problem has been the insestuous nature of American soccer. No one can speak honestly and not get cutt off. Now that things have gotten so bad and we have been humiliated for the millionth time, they can pose the obvious question: oh maybe we fire Gregg? They still have to tip toe around and it and be gentle. We cannot grow and be taken serious in this field with guys like Lalas who only now jumps on the banwaggon of criticizing Gregg. We need commentators who actually can speak and think critically. Herculez and Sebastian have been the ONLY ones slightly critical and they are shoved off to the side; these are the only main stream guys who have an ounce of credibility. And they are far from perfect. It's not just the federation that needs changing, the announcers, pundits, promoters etc etc need to go!
