For this week's story, we take you back to France. As you probably already know France is an enormous country and has countless small villages where only a few residents live. Inside one of these villages, we found a Manor left behind and forgotten by its former owners Sylvie and Bertrau.
Bertrau his field of study was stockbroker but he could not pursue that in the countryside so he re-educated himself and started a bakery together with his wife Sylvie. They ran this place for years and were also quite happy together in their beautiful manor. After some time they even got a child together and were also thinking about a second one. But the bakery consumed all their time so they had bearly any time for their first child a second one would not be feasible.
Then tides started to turn. The financial crisis hit in France and many workers from the small towns were left without a job. Most of them decided to move to the bigger cities to look for work. Their bakery business started to slow down and now Sylvie and Bertrau found themself in financial trouble. Fights between them started to happen more frequently and eventually, they decided it was better for both of them to get separated.
Bertrau was not happy with his life on the countryside and made a big decision to move a few hundred miles away from Sylvie and his child and go pursue his dreams in Paris. He still had contact with them throughout the years and visited frequently. They even had a special bedroom for when Betrau used to visit them. The child moved back and forth between Paris and his hometown to visit his parents until he eventually moved out and started to live on his own.
Sylvie lived in this place until she eventually passed away from old age in the year 2007. We don't know what happened to mister Bertrau after Sylvie passed away. The house has now been abandoned for 13 years and it seems like nobody cares about it anymore... The floors are bending and some rooms are in an incredible state of decay. But what is most interesting in this place is that the electricity still runs and we can turn on the lights... So somebody still has to pay the electricity bill! Maybe it is Bertrau!

It makes you wonder why the only child didn't keep it or take family history like photographs with him. This one makes me so sad.
Me aswell can not believe it...

It was a great exploration brother! 😎🙏🏼
Hi, I agree, so it seemed. - See you and kindest regards.
As always, the quality of presentation, production and respect is 100%
Yes, - that's really true and exactly also what I love so much in his videos. - They are great guys. - Kindest regards,
Hello Bros. of Decay. I have only just discovered your videos and have watched at least a dozen over the past two weeks. I can't thank you enough for a glimpse into these homes and the lives of their owners, and your respect for the significance of each one. It is comforting to watch in the reality that I will likely lose my home, over 100 years old and full of antiques, due to my failing health. But in America, there is no such respect for preservation. It will be lost and dismantled to the highest bidder. I wish you success and thank you for your enthusiasm and dedication!
What a lot of books, and all going to waste, how sad is that. Books are so expensive, in my country. Love you guys.xx😘
I get so upset when the books and glasses and such in the kitchen are all just left there. Those gorgeous wardrobes and dressers can be used!! Such beautiful things that can be all cleaned up and reused. It’s so sad!! I never understand why these things can’t be removed from these abandoned places. 😭😥
6:55 I like about this places how they hanged photos of their ancestors on walls to keep memory of them alive. This photo is probably from 1920's and family photo around 1930. Beautiful!
And most of those old photos is bought on flea markets and have nothing to do with familie :) in my work I come in many mansions and so on and they buy most :)
Thank you for telling us a little bit of the history!
Many years ago, the economic crisis hit families hard and many lost their businesses.
It is sad that their son never cared to return to the family home!
I absolutely love the way you relate the personal story of the occupants who lived in the dwelling , you do it with so much compassion and sentimentality. I wait patiently for the next one , thank you all xx
Your English is really good. I have been following you for a long time and I'm impressed how well it's improved.👍👍👍👍
When you go in these houses, the beds are still made so well? That is fascinating!!. In America you could never find such beautiful things that stayed untouched for years
Hi, Yes, I fully agree, that it is fascinating to watch the Bros of Decay exploring these houses with the quite intact interiors.
But I would like to add, that I saw from videos of an amercan explorer, that there are also in the USA sometimes
very nice and untouched abandoned buildings. - You could check some of the Videos from "RNK" ("Robb and Christie all day").
He is also very respectful and has a great photographic talent. - Wishing a lot of fun and kindest regards.
Very fascinating, the books on the shelves and the cabinets are well organized the lady must be a very organized lady. Im amazed of the sewing machine becoz i myself is a dressmaker its quiet old already must have been inherited from her mon🥰
That painted wall was awesome..
The cherub candelabra on the television, was amazing. Thank you again for bringing us into this french country home. Great video, as always.
Aww.. I appreciate how you told the heartfelt story of the previous owners and their lives. I would like to think in the end it was a good life for all of them. 😊
Great Video ♡
Bless 🕊
Makes me sad to see family photos and beautiful antiques just left to rot.😔😢
Sadder still was the broken relationship.
Nice home, shame in part it’s falling to pieces. It looks like life would have been nice in that cosy home. Lovely find 🌹
Haha...I really like the way you describe certain objects Lesley....the shoes at the beginning of the video are called clogs but I much prefer your "wood clumps"....think I will call them that from now on!....great video...cheers...
Yes. Clogs are Wood Clumps. Which personally, is an appellation I find more fitting. The bidet is the "vagina washer." Cabinets are closets. Dolls are "puppets." And you don't go through a room, you go "troo" it. The list goes on. I love it!
Hi, such a shame that they couldn't make it work together but sometimes for the child's sake it's better to be separated than for the child to hear the arguing. She must have loved him very much. The device at 11:42 is a guillotine for cutting paper so you were correct. A once lovely home filled with love and despair, thank you for sharing, much love to you and Jordy of course. 💖 xx
I'm 57 years old; in my mind an "old school telephone" would have a rotary dial :)
Yes we had one when I was a child. It was so cool when we got a button one!
I'm 51 and I totally agree, before my family had our first telephone when I was little we had to go down to the public telephone box in our village in Buckinghamshire. x
When we first got a phone we were on a “party line” which meant sharing with one or more other people. Us kids delighted in eavesdropping on others’ conversations, after which we would be told to “get off the damn phone!” by the neighbour lady. Your home phone could not be moved around. You went to the phone, the phone didn’t come to you. Ah yes, the bad old days...
@@sharong8511 Haha totally agree, waiting in the rain or snow just to use the stinky phonebox lol. xx
I'm 33 and my great grandparents had a rotary phone for most of my childhood. I loved making calls on it. I would hang up and dial the number again just to watch the dial spin. I love watching kids these days trying to call out on a rotary phone.
I like how gentle and compassionate you guys are.
Thank you for this great video...story is so sad like many stories today..house left behind to decay...
Just watched one of y'alls first videos, I can't believe how much y'all have matured! AND yall learned english for all of us! Much love and thanks so much for devoting your life to entertain us!
Thank you for this incredible comment Brittany ♥️
Hi 👋Lesley ! What you call knitting is really sewing threads.
somebody must be paying the electric. beautiful place, y'all always show such sad interesting places. love the vid as always, keep up the great work
Nobody is paying electricity as it's switched off. They switched on main switch out of curiosity and find out there is still electricity running to the house. I believe they switched off as it could cause fire hazard.
Great video!thank you.
Appreciation for the history. 🙏🏻 it always completes the explore😘
I'm 58 from Connecticut U. S. S. A., we love your shows. Old school to also would be a rotary phone.
I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.Have a great day.😊
Please be careful, if you decide to turn the electricity on in those old places, it could cause a fire. Love you guys! 🙂
Thanks for sharing the story of this house.
Wonderful explore Lesley, despite all the decay this home is cosy. Shame the pictures left behind I hope the family comes back and collects them. Thank you :)
Wonderful video. Those people really loved books! I always feel a little sad for what once was.
So sad, the living room.. imagine the elderly Sylvie alone in that house
I love your work !
You' re respectfull and pay atention to all those tiny little details.
The house is telling us a story and you can hear it because you' re sensible .
Watching your channel it' s a great experience !
Beautiful !
Thank you again
From Texas
Good morning from California! Loved this video, wish someone would claim those books and family pictures! 🙋🏻♀️📕📖📗
That was a super exploration!!! Nice job fellas!!!! & no rushing to end it!!!
That's great!!! Thankyou!!!💞😁⚘
I love the respect you show in your videos. You take your time and let us see what you see in detail. Thanks for another great video.
Another great one guys! Yes I'm still watching lol. Still waiting for your trip to 🇺🇸 thank you as always for the compassion you show for the families of these amazing places.
Thank you for bringing a trusted Interpreter to decipher. Loved hearing about the people who lived here.. It brings it to life even in the decay.
Yet, just another magnificent video. Thank you for sharing!!! Loved it!!!
I always find it amazing how 1 room looks abandoned for 50 years and next room beds made and looks like they just left!! 👍👍👍
What a beautiful home - and no vandalism- amazing ! In America abandoned homes are often vandalized-
Incredible mural. ! Back in the day, I bet the colors were vibrant!!
Thank you for sharing.
Wow. Thank you so much for the way you put these videos together and take the time to tell as much of the story as you can. It means so much more and puts you in a while nother class than the rest of these guys who seem more like intruders than someone paying homage to not only the place but the people who loved there. So thank you, thank you, thank you-so much !!! And may God watch over and bless you all always!
class👍👍👍👍
Hi Lesley an Georgie it’s Ann again so sad they parted it’s amazing how it’s all left I’d love to know what happened to them I get a sad feeling about the place but at one time they were happy I can’t believe the son hasn’t been back photographed are very personal memories stay safe thank you for doing these videos with out you no one would know about all these lovely houses lv Ann uk
This house was a great find. I enjoyed exploring with you guys. The first room you showed. I love the painting on the walls. Still nice antique furniture. Lot of sentimental items left. Sad how the pictures were left. Look like the son. Would have took them with him. Maybe he has passed away also. Both of you have a wonderful evening.
That was freaking awesome!!💕
Well done and amazing video of home. The narration and camera movement is perfect.
I have this unstoppable urge....to get a broom and dustpan and start cleaning every time I watch your videos. Keep up the good work I really enjoy your youtube channel. Karen
I enjoy your explorations of abandoned homes/mansions. So sad as to why they were left behind. It's a journey back in time. Thank you guys! Greetings from Florida!
One of the things I noticed was the beams in the attic. They appear to be very old and hand-hewn. And I had to look up how to spell hewn.
Yeah!!! Wonderful house! I love the paintings made on the wall, the murals if you will. So happy to see you guys wearing masks!!! Thank you for this wonderful video. It's interesting to see how others live. Greetings from Texas, USA. 😘😘 Stay safe. 👍
Beautiful and I love the turquoise colours through the filming
I absolutely love the way you present your videos . You are the best story teller in the world .
I’m a Lumbee Indian I’ve always wanted to visit these places. But you brought them to me .
Thank you
What a wonderful place, the family's story was a nice touch because we can see how this family lived. Very nice job. I really enjoyed this one. You just keep getting better and better at this.
Thanks guys...have a fantastic weekend...!
Love all your videos ❤ thank you !!!
You're right about the phone. I remember when we first upgraded from dial to push-button and how cool that was! Now I have a Smart Phone I can carry in my hand and access technology and photography, etc. So amazing.
Great video.
Wish some of that old furniture could be rescued, also the child high chair in the attic, wow, it's no telling how old it is. I still have my husband's old chair & he was born in 1946 & died almost 4 years ago at age 70. That one is older than that, I think anyway.
Thanks for sharing your videos with us. I love your channel.
Lovely to see nice working class homes as well as mansions. Thank you.
I always love abandoned houses... i dont have the apportunity to visit some of them... Thanks for sharing😍👍
super video
I love the painting sitting on the computer desk. Cool explore thank you.
Dont skip ads thanks for uploading
🌸 I would visit there just to paint, love to spend a day quickly taking pics & sketches for that purpose. It’s like a goldmine for interesting new projects. I bet they had many happy memories in that home 😊
Omg I think my waterworks started when I saw Xmas decorations still up, at least they had a Xmas together before something tragic occurred
I loved the treadle sewing machine. Sad story. I hope you turned out all the lights great explore.
It is an incredible place. Sad to see the decay of the roof caving in on the room already. Oh wow, the power could still turn on. Love the narration as always. Thank you for another great video.
Thank you for the background information it really is touching be safe
Que maravillosa la historia que esconde esa casa!!!.
Such a sad story. Seeing the decay from the ceiling falling onto furniture, so bad. And books, omg so many books. I would have loved a look through them. Oh at the beginning, the painted wall, that really was beautiful. Thank you so much for leading the way. Very enjoyable. 💟🌹🌹💟🌷❤❤🌷
Another fantastic explore from u guys. Thanks for sharing
it's sad that money problems ruined marriage, friendship , etc..
It is very sad been thru that my self
I totally Love your voice & your presentations are always so very professional & respectful & Excellant!! I'm a new subscriber & your channel is the very best & my favorite!!
Very sweet home shame about the decay amazing they had their own library thankyou for sharing
Increíble, hermosa casa sin estar vandalizada ,saludos desde Buenos Aires, Argentina
I like to see the kind of wallpaper in the bedrooms of the old houses. It’s gone mostly out of fashion now. I remember in our bathroom when I was very young, the wallpaper was blue with little coloured fishes on it. An old house near us was demolished apart from one end that backed onto the building next to it and there was still an old fireplace high up in the wall and the wallpaper still on the wall. I used to wonder about the lives of the people who lived in the house, their families, happy an sad times, all long gone.
These people REALLY loved to read my goodness !! This home is so untouched in some areas and some rooms are just hanging on ceilings caved in . I love the respect given to theses places from you and others in France and Germany here in the America it would have been destroyed long ago. sad but true and that makes me 😠 ! Great video and my goodness it still has power to it !! ....... wonder who's paying the electric bill . Great video as always guys loved it !!
Very nicely made video.
This is my favourite video so far 👍🏻
Thanks Bros of Decay much 💕from UK
Lovin all your vlogs, Marjorie here from Philippines 🇵🇭
Thank you very much darling :)
Hey Lesley, once again you brought a fantastic video, trying to catch up on videos been away for a while....thank you always for opening up portions of people's lives and through your vids you're keeping their memories alive.... to bad you couldn't have shown the bakery....take care God bless....👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Magnifique video, thank's my brother
Yes very much enjoy your video's xx
Like the airship in the wall painting @2:42....
What a lovely old house. I love the fireplaces and the big old beams in the attic. The old child's high chair was amazing. I worked out from what you said that the child must be about 28 years old. And I guess the parents aren't that old. My eldest is 26 and I'm 49. Usually you can make an educated guess that the person was very elderly and maybe died thus leaving the house, but this family must be around. Very odd that they have left it to decay.
Heel bijzonder Lesley en Jordy. En nog steeds elektriciteit. Gaaf hoor.👍
So enjoyed it
very strange that someone leave and dont bring their pictures, its like they left in a hurry, maybe the woman of the house died.
great job bros of decay👍old and antique, sewing machine
Love your video good job love 💓.
That was a very nice little home with people who obviously loved to read. Turning the power on when there is damage to the walls and ceilings is dangerous and could result in a fire from broken and exposed wiring. Stay safe and have fun.
If the power works it's not abandon. But somebody owns an end as maintaining the power and providing the lowest interest in the home. But it was nice of you to consider showing us somebody's low-interest home
In some European countries the power is never disconnected. This is not the first home that still had power; I seen several in urban exploration vids.
I usually become tears by looking of such abandoned houses.
Very sad they separated it’s hard on the children. It’s beautiful mansion, I love old pictures and a lot of books .
Didn’t you notice, on the landscape mural (painting) on the wall, was a flying saucer (UFO). It could be a blimp or airship. but it looks more like the classical flying saucer! 👏👏👏☺️
This is a nice place. I think not sure though but maybe time still to save it. Good video. Take care.
They child should come back and start living there
Hello Lesley and William! Nice video, some part of the house is very decayed. Very good all you used mask for protection 👍👌. The history of the owner's is sad but I am thinking they was learned live with respect and good friendship after the separation. Thank you always for sharing your adventure! Please take care of yourselves in your travel to China. 👋🇺🇸😘👍😎😉💖. Happy Valentine's Day! 💗
I'm from Thailand. so surprise to saw a ticket in their house. WOW
