Jordy's camera work is very good. Also, the room with all the chests, I have to wonder if they were not Hope Chests. This is something that used to be done where a girl child would save linens and other items she would need to start her own household one day. I have even done one for my daughter, who is 23 and is moving out this weekend. :) - :(

In a big formal mansion, there would be a cloak room, that their guests would leave their coats with the servants and the servant would give them a tag that corresponded to the tag on the hanger. This would happen at big formal gatherings or large dinners. You have to take into consideration that there were probably 30 or so family members and servants that all lived there and they would have a lot of guests and it would be hard for a servant to remember who’s coat went to who. That ante room is like a gathering room where people would have drinks or chat in between times that they were dining. I would imagine the actual dining room would have a very large table and a lot of chairs. There are a lot of great antiques there that I would love to have and restore, so sad that they are just sitting there decaying. I love that secretary desk that you opened up, I would take that in a minute. I think that was not a piano, I think it was a harpsichord. There’s so much beautiful Portuguese tile everywhere, I love tile and would love to see that place either get restored or stripped for its antiquities so they can be recycled, there’s just no reason to let them just rot away. In those benches you would store the cushions and pillows. The chapel was just gorgeous and very common to have in a mansion of that period. The plaster ceiling was so nice. The blue cabinet room was not the kitchen, it was probably the butlers pantry or the scullery. The kitchen would have had a very huge fireplace and ovens and work tables, but that blue cupboard room was not big enough to be the actual kitchen. I think those drawings were stencils for doing embroidery. I’m sure there were a lot of rooms you did not explore.

I just don’t get it, I love going through my Nan’s storage room and china cabinets and I would love to have an old ancestral home, but then there are the people why just don’t care or get it!
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries little girls were given "hope chests". Just like the one's seen at the beginning of this video. The parents would buy each girl one of them to store photos, letters, fabric, and items from life to take with them when they were married. That is why most of the chests were made from cedar so as to keep the cridders out. Once the girls were married, they would store the wedding dress and memorabilia like ribbons in the chest. Each of my great aunts had one. Only one aunt kept her wedding dress in hers.
This was a beautiful home and very large. The desk is called a secretary and was a staple of homes as early as the 1500's in England and other countries. The term "Grand Piano" is used for a specific type of piano not the standard upright. The piano in the tall cabinet was very unique. The paper with artwork shown at the end was for embroidery or needlework. Stay safe and have fun.

Damn, it's a grand house: just look at those velvet pelmets above the doors, the azulejos, and the furniture. It's almost madness to have left it... Needs a bit of fixing up, but it would be a pleasure to move in it, as long as the vibes are good. You guys tell me . Cheers, to you both, Jordy and Jaimy ! PS: you are quite right about this beautiful piano. They are called, I think upright "Lyre Pianos", and are very rare, especially this one, which still has its action still more or less playing. This piano would be the pride of a museum, where it belongs, and is well worth restoring to a level of perfect playing: a great rarity, indeed.
I remember my Grandmother had those types of drawings. They were used as transfers for embroidery. They were ironed on to fabric and the tissue would be removed leaving a pattern could be easily followed.

I found this video especially interesting as my husband has an ancestor from Portugal. They left there to come to the USA in the 1700's but still this is where that family branch came from. Absolutely loved the money desk and the grand piano! Those could both be restored with little problems! Thank you for a glimpse of the world I'd never get to see otherwise.
mis más sinceras felicitaciones por documentar tantos lugares maravillosos perdidos olvidados . es triste ver como se van perdiendo........ y me hace sentir bien que jóvenes admiran y respetan estos lugares .
Thanks for sharing your video. I love the chapel. And the rest of this gorgeous house. Lot of antiques that's still in good shape. Sad that some of the children. Didn't restore it back to its original glory. All of you are very respectable. For everything that you picked up. You place it back in the same place. All three of you have a great day.
... the children were probably so very young when the family "crumbled," so that is why. Very heartbreaking history. ("The places of the unrighteous shall be left to the righteous ones.")
The chair in a bedroom serves many purposes. Someone can read you a bedtime story or sit and have a conversation. The chair in the room is also a place where you could sit down and put on your shoes in the morning or take them off at night :) By the way, my mom was from Lisbon Portugal and what a beautiful country.
Yup. Loser. The wife was able to leave him with her children mainly because she had wealthy family support. If she was anything else, she would have to stay in that marital hell.
So sad that they could not get past this tragedy and work on being a family. Think of how many people were affected for their whole lives by his actions. Such a heartbreaking betrayal. Forgive and move on, or forgive and stay.

These glass oil jars are for oil heaters. when the oil ran out they were refilled and placed in the heater upside down and the oil dripped through the needle and filtered into a circular wick with a wire mesh on the top and it went red glow. We had these heaters in out primary school many years ago. Always remember the teacher replacing the oil jars...memories, ....Mervyn

Wow ! What an amazing building , it would have been stunning when first built, it's such a shame nobody could look after it 😔. But again you showed us the beauty it did have left ♥️
Hope you guys enjoyed your visit to my beautiful Portugal 💝🇵🇹 That Singer sewing machine is a coveted item nowadays, they get restored or repurposed… a treasure for vintage lovers … some great furniture pieces there, what a shame😔 those chairs and benches with the wood detail look like Manueline style chairs (Manueline is portuguese gothic). 18:31 in Portugal we call that desk a “escrivaninha”
I love the way you presented the parts and things in the house with your cool voice and so gentle and respect to the place where you are in. I enjoy watching the places and thank you so much. More power Bros and Decay
The furniture from that time is priceless and beyond beautiful. A pity they don’t make things to last like that anymore. Any furniture left from our current period would fall part and decay much quicker. Sublime video as ever guys, stay safe Lesley and Jordi 😊❤️
i would love to know why they leave these beautiful properties to rot and decay. Aw such a sad story and now its abandoned .. so sad. When people pass away their lives are never the same .. as my uncles died and some aunties my grand parents all gone ,y mum with Alzheimer's my dad gone i don't have many family left who want to bother with me because most of them gone they don't want to know anymore. We were real close when they were here but not now things are not the same but that's life it can hurt but you have to make the most of it .. The picture on the bedroom wall is a sketch i know because i sketch portraits with pencils and you rub it to blend your pencils and make all sorts of textures on the drawing. I love to draw i have my own FB page of my work .. Thanks for sharing with us all xxx

It's a so awesome big building. Very, very beautiful time-capsule! The picture in the wall with the musicians shows Beethoven, Richard Wagner and the third I don't know, perhaps Franz Liszt. Thanks for sharing!
What-an amazing place; The design and architecture of the period is stunning- love the tile work and classic blue-- That music room is amazing also in particular that piano, never saw one like that, and its not full size either(not 88 keys) It kills me when items like that are left behind. You would think with 14 children the extended family would be quite large, yet no one took interest in the antiques left behind?- Wonderful video Leslie !😎☮❤
Hi Lesley & Danny, What a wonderful looking mansion, with so much history like the blue glass tiles in rooms & furniture & chandeliers, servant quarters & homeowner`s rooms! To still see a house from 1888 anywhere is unique but to see a Portuguese one, somewhere I have never seen. It is sad the children when they grew up didn`t come to this mansion & at least take pictures & the furniture before it decays beyond repair! Thanks so much for showing us everything & for Danny to tell you certain things about it! When you said Piano, I had never seen one like that ever, but reading comments & find out it`s a Harpsichord...but never seen that before either! Shame about the story of Musician Husband & wife finds out he cheated on her & she leaves 1970 & takes the children, & then he stays till 1980 & then he is too lonely to stay & leaves the mansion! Take care both of you & stay safe! Love from Central Illinois USA😊😍
Hello Lesley, Jordy and Danny! Very decayed house but in the same time interesting place . Many of the wood furniture unique . The tile in the wall and bathroom is beautiful. The history of the family is sad because if the man keep respect to his wife the probably the place never left abandoned. Thank you always for sharing ! Please take care of yourselves! 👋🇺🇸😍😘👍👌😽
WoW amazing house. I will go straight to the Chapel. That was exquisite. Such a shame that there is a water leak in the ceiling. Other than the water stain the Chapel is near perfect. Such a sin that this was abandoned. Thank you so much for a wonderful tour 🌹💟💟🌹
I was amazed by so many beautiful antiques, wide-eyed, so amazed that I could have swallowed flies !!! Unique furniture, full of beautiful works that will soon be reduced to dust ... what a pity ... At least your presence in this place will keep a short memory. I really appreciated the intro, there was only one Christmas tree missing near the piano ... From Quebec (Canada)
When you said "Now a days childrens don't host their parents anymore".. That hit hard. I am from India and I didn't know this existed in other countries as well. Very great video btw. :)
Hey Shreya I don't know the situation in India. But where I live in Belgium people just place them in a resting home. It is very sad... Btw love India have traveled there for over a month :) X
Culturally, In india old age people used stay with their children. Both my maternal and paternal grandparents stay with my parents. Btw, try coming and exploring such places in India. It will be fun.
I really appreciate the fine details and the care and beauty of times past - the way that even years later those that have passed have a story. This is very nostalgic, I love the craftmanship thats so authentic and the beautiful tiles and details throughout that are Portugese signature - beautiful
What an amazing house, thank you guys that was yet another amazing tour of a beautiful but abandoned house, although I love watching your videos I can't help but get a surge of sadness every time, knowing these families lived and loved here, but there was an untimely end to their happiness and this place was left to decay. 😍😢
The tile in the first bathroom was my favorite! Too bad all of the tiles in the home can’t be salvaged to use in other homes. And the ceiling in the Chapel was just stunning!
Hi Lesley and Jordy, Bros of Decay, and Danny, I loved your introduction as an off-comment combined with beautiful drone shots of this huge abandoned mansion of a Portugese musician. Somehow the story of the last owner of this location, who was divorced from his wife, was actually quite sad to hear. - There were beautiful details in some of the rooms to see. - I liked this piano like instrument with the vertical string case. - This is a vertical harpsichord, called "Clavicytherium". - During my last visit in Brussels I could see such an instrument in this amazing museum of music instruments, located in a breathtaking art nouveau building. Although your buddy Danny tried to play, it was not working, because an instrument like this one, has to be tuned regularly. - The three persons on the picture you were showing, are three famous composers of the 18th/9th century (L.v.Beethoven, F. Liszt, R.Wagner). - The piano notes at the beginning of your video show a part of the sonata, No.17, op.31,2 in d-minor, the so called "storm"-sonata from exactly the same Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), from which you found that red old book with a whole collection of his piano sonatas. By the way I want to add, that this is absolutely beautiful piano music, I can only recommend to listen. - Wonderful explore! - I enjoyed very much watching and listening to your comment. Jordy was also doing a great job with the camera. - I am already looking forward to your next videos. Take care and peace to you all! - Wishing you all the best and kindest regards from Switzerland.
Hey Willy, Thank you for the comment 😊 I always enjoy ready the information that we did not manage to find haha I should take you on my explorations... Thanks again for the great time we had in Hasselt hope to see you soon! Kind regards Lesley
Wow... what an amazing place. I have been watching your channel for a few years now and I just wanted to applaud you guys on the quality of your videos. You have grown and improved so much. Also, loved the intro to this video. Keep up the great work.
Such a wonderful beautiful home ravaged by time and neglect. What a shame to see all if that magnificent craftsmanship be reclaimed by decay. I try to imagine what it once was like during the family's glory days. It must have been magical living there. To see the torn and tattered curtains blowing in the wind made me sad. I could feel the spirit of the place. Another magnificent job.
Hello guys , fantastic adventure, once a lovely mansion I’m really surprised a lot of the antique furniture is still here, thank you guys very cool explore.
He chose a mistress over a wife and children and in the end, I hope he realized what priceless treasures he had of having a wife and children who loved him. The house and contents became nothing but trinkets to him.
There are so many channels with explorers of lost places but they are not as good as this channel. I like your voice and your exploring style, no matter how many people come with you, you all are always so respectful and humble. I don't like watching other lost place and eyploring channels. Only yours. Thank you for all the great videos. I always feel like you would take me into another world for a few minutes. Keep on exploring. Love from Germany.
I wanted to review the other comments to see if anyone thought for the size of the family and the mansion, why such a small kitchen, it also could have used on the kitchen level a butler's pantry for pots, pans, storage for kitchen supplies. Where did they do the laundry for such a large family?
... In the "olden days," gigantic pots were used (by servants or the family) for doing the laundry (before washing machines and clothes lines and dryers), which I understand took all (of the) day or day(s), once a week, or so, before modernization took over. (Things invented because of the necessity or pleasure for them.)
The furniture is so beautiful. Just a really lovely explore. Thank you for helping to get so many of us through those tough days during this virus. I'm hoping to get your "Beautiful" tee very soon. Stay safe!
Your camera work is so good. I don't get dizzy watching your videos. You are so respectful of the beautiful locations you show us.

love to watch your videos, you have so much respect for the places you go thru, thank you for the respect you have
I found this video especially interesting as my husband has an ancestor from Portugal. They left there to come to the USA in the 1700's but still this is where that family branch came from. Absolutely loved the money desk and the grand piano! Those could both be restored with little problems! Thank you for a glimpse of the world I'd never get to see otherwise.
Where in Portugal are your husband's ancestors from?
mis más sinceras felicitaciones por documentar tantos lugares maravillosos perdidos olvidados . es triste ver como se van perdiendo........ y me hace sentir bien que jóvenes admiran y respetan estos lugares .
Why???? 😡Why leave this stuff to rot? That piano is amazing!! Such a waste. 😢😟😩
Maybe the kids were mad at him and never looked back when they left. It happens a lot.
The lady’s art you found is embroidery patterns
You are correct. I even recognized some of the patterns Lesley took out. You can still buy iron on embroidery patterns on-line.
WOW, SUCH AN AMAZING HOME SO SAD TO SEE THE DECAYING THANKS FOR SHARING THIS BEAUTY!
I really enjoyed your channel. I love historical places. Love love antique furniture. Please keep on entertaining us 👍
I’m amazed by the home but more by all the beautiful tiles and the amount of tiles in each room. Those types of tiles would cost a fortune these days.
The chair in a bedroom serves many purposes. Someone can read you a bedtime story or sit and have a conversation. The chair in the room is also a place where you could sit down and put on your shoes in the morning or take them off at night :)
By the way, my mom was from Lisbon Portugal and what a beautiful country.
He destroyed his entire life and lost his entire family over a one night stand. 😞SMH
Yup.
Living Life, what do you mean by nightstand??
I'm sure it was more than just one night stand.
@@thomaspage869 A "one night stand" is where someone has a one time "hook-up" with another person
That was an amazing explore. I would have loved to live in such a beautiful home. Thank you for the respect that you have for this forgotten history.
Glad you enjoyed it Joyce!
when I am having the worst day ever. when I just need to stop and calm down . I put on your videos. U have an amazing approach and soothing calmness that helps me in my day . Thank you for all the beautiful places you've taken me. Stay safe .
Thank you for the information on the oil lamp that was really informative and I enjoyed your description I have learned something new today thanks to you
Wow ! What an amazing building , it would have been stunning when first built, it's such a shame nobody could look after it 😔. But again you showed us the beauty it did have left ♥️
Hope you guys enjoyed your visit to my beautiful Portugal 💝🇵🇹
That Singer sewing machine is a coveted item nowadays, they get restored or repurposed… a treasure for vintage lovers … some great furniture pieces there, what a shame😔 those chairs and benches with the wood detail look like Manueline style chairs (Manueline is portuguese gothic).
MJART BY DAY I think the up keep and maintenance becomes to costly so there left to rot.
@@Carballoca yes Pam i agree .. its such a beautiful place its just so sad to see it like that when it was once lived in and loved xxx
MJART BY DAY To big of a place for him after his wife and children left him. He stayed 10 yrs. But just gave up and left. Tried to sell but no one buying.
Just Me: don’t forget the cheating part 😜
❤
I hope no one came and raided this place afterwards.. we need to find a way to stop that.. it happens once someone posts a video of it because it draws attention
I love this channel sooooo much! Always great content, information about the owners and contents. I also love the way you respect the items in the home and how you handle them so gently and put everything back as you found them. I’m a huge lover of antiques and abandoned homes/places . You guys never disappoint me on your content. Much love and ty for providing us with these gorgeous wonders 🌹😀 p.s those are oil lamps for the evening 😉
I totally agree with you !
The furnitures have been cut very rustic and simple. That makes a sober and pure style !!! Very beautiful...
What a beautiful place this is. Would have to have seen it in its glory days. It must have been breathtaking.✨
Wow, what a great find, so interesting! Than you for bringing such a beautiful home to us. Great exploring! The tile work is beautiful. Love ya!!
HELLO FROM KENTUCKY USA YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST NEVER DISAPPOINTED 👍👍👍👍👍
Hello from Indiana (USA) but born & raised in rural Kentucky..
I cant believe how untouched abandoned houses are over there!
Thank you very much! You do a wonderful job of showing us everything. You're easy to listen to, and get as excited about finding things as we do watching with you! Glad you put your gloves on and are careful. Also, appreciate your respect of the property and others' abandoned possessions. Look forward to more of your explores! Thanks so much!
It's a so awesome big building. Very, very beautiful time-capsule! The picture in the wall with the musicians shows Beethoven, Richard Wagner and the third I don't know, perhaps Franz Liszt. Thanks for sharing!
I love your videos. I'm from America and I think you are so respectful of the places you visit. Your voice is so easy to listen to also.
Love the music you played in this video
What a wonderful explore!!! Never a disappointment here with The Bro's!!! On to the next!!!
I’m not into antiques but my heart breaks seeing all the antiques left there to rot. So many people would enjoy them. It’s so sad.
Eu gosto muito de ver seus vídeos, eu adoro ver casa e móveis antigo você está de parabéns, vídeos muito bom.
That was a beautiful place, love all the tile.
The desk with the top that comes down is called a secretary desk.
Maybe some of the sketches the woman did could've been for a pattern in embroidery work? Very big mansion, sad to see it decay. Beautiful views there.
Breaks my heart to see all those beautiful antiques just rotting away
Oh to bring these places back to life...thank you for sharing.
I agree Kana 😔
The tile work and design is just so beautiful sad to see it go to waste
Absolutely lovely thank you so much for all your amazing work ❤️❤️💕💗 glad to see you are well
Thankyou so much for your videos. The respect you show, is amasing. Hello from the deep forest east i Norway.
Hi Lesley and Jordy, Bros of Decay, and Danny, I loved your introduction as an off-comment combined with beautiful drone shots
of this huge abandoned mansion of a Portugese musician. Somehow the story of the last owner of this location, who was divorced
from his wife, was actually quite sad to hear. - There were beautiful details in some of the rooms to see. - I liked this piano like instrument
with the vertical string case. - This is a vertical harpsichord, called "Clavicytherium". - During my last visit in Brussels I could see
such an instrument in this amazing museum of music instruments, located in a breathtaking art nouveau building. Although your
buddy Danny tried to play, it was not working, because an instrument like this one, has to be tuned regularly. - The three persons
on the picture you were showing, are three famous composers of the 18th/9th century (L.v.Beethoven, F. Liszt, R.Wagner). - The piano
notes at the beginning of your video show a part of the sonata, No.17, op.31,2 in d-minor, the so called "storm"-sonata from exactly
the same Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), from which you found that red old book with a whole collection of his piano sonatas.
By the way I want to add, that this is absolutely beautiful piano music, I can only recommend to listen. - Wonderful explore! - I enjoyed
very much watching and listening to your comment. Jordy was also doing a great job with the camera. - I am already looking forward
to your next videos. Take care and peace to you all! - Wishing you all the best and kindest regards from Switzerland.
Hey Willy,
Thank you for the comment 😊 I always enjoy ready the information that we did not manage to find haha I should take you on my explorations... Thanks again for the great time we had in Hasselt hope to see you soon! Kind regards Lesley
@@BrosOfDecay , Wow! Lesley, what a lovely feedback! - You are very welcome, and it was a great pleasure for me! - Stay safe and kindest regards.
Another great video. Thanks guys! It is easy to tell how beautiful the whole place must have been in it's day.
Wow... what an amazing place.
I have been watching your channel for a few years now and I just wanted to applaud you guys on the quality of your videos. You have grown and improved so much. Also, loved the intro to this video. Keep up the great work.
Linda casa!!! Amei os moveis😍😍 É os azulejos estilo Português😍😍😘😘
Mooie video Lesley en Jordy. En er mooi muziek bij op de achtergrond. Relax en een schitterend huis. 👍
Portugal has the most beautiful tiles and table ware. In the old parenthood movie, I loved her Portuguese dishes.
WOW! BEAUTIFUL! THANK U! HAVE A HAPPY Y BLESSED DAY!🦋🌹🐞😀👒
Hello guys , fantastic adventure, once a lovely mansion I’m really surprised a lot of the antique furniture is still here, thank you guys very cool explore.
As lovely as this house must have been back in the day it must be a burden if your are left yourelf to care for it in old age.
The tiles on the walls are spectacular ! More than likely all custom made from the choices of the husband an wife. Beautiful !
He chose a mistress over a wife and children and in the end, I hope he realized what priceless treasures he had of having a wife and children who loved him. The house and contents became nothing but trinkets to him.
Thank you. Goes to show all we accumulate, all we acquire, cannot go with us ...when we leave.
Loving your channel folks ...
LOVE the added MUSIC in the background very touching and subtle emotion that you added ... superb video
Wow beautiful place Leslie, and i still love the way you describe things, beautiful voice xx
Stay safe!
