  • For Labor Day weekend Joe and I headed to Big Bear to escape the intense LA heat wave. The weather there was so much better, we decided to turn the ride into a monthly hundo!

Favorite summer riding area in SoCal. Another local IE person that hates the summer heat. Big Bear also good for summer gravel road riding either side of the lake. There is a back way on the old road now dirt from Frawnskin to green valley on other side of the ridge from arctic circle/hwy 18.

As a fellow SoCal rider who understands the struggle with summer heat, I can totally relate! The back way you mentioned, sounds like a hidden gem. We're gonna have to check it out! Happy summer riding, and enjoy the beautiful gravel roads of Big Bear! Stay cool and have a fantastic time exploring!

I ride Lytle Creek and Big Bear all the time. You should ride Palm Springs next. Weather is getting good.

That's awesome, this was my first time up there and I loved it! I'll have to check Palm Springs!

I’ve been waiting for a quality TH-cam video of the climb up Keller! And while you two were enjoying some nice cool mountain riding I was slaving away in the Covina Hills and La Habra Heights in 102 and 103 degree weather! At least I’m heat acclimated now, lol. And great video as always.

I'm very familiar hiking and camping over there so it was cool to see from a cycling POV.

Thanks so much for watching! I remember that weekend was torturous out in Covina that's why we escaped the heat!! Thanks for watching!

Too much traffic up there! And most drivers are distracted by the views. That would make me nervous but huge effort and great ride! Especially with the heat and humidity we were having at that time.

The trick is to ride the North Shore and Baldwin Lake area. Stay away from South shore traffic.

Great job you guys , big bear is a great place to ride and Onyx climb is one of my fav place. I was there for tour de big bear a month ago but the same weekend I rode in Palos Verdes where it usually doesnt get that hot due to close proximity to the ocean. Started my ride at 7am and was back in my car at 845am and temperature was already smoking at 93 degrees so I said F it and was done with the ride 😀 Awesome video thank you~

Looks like the perfect ride to change my gravel bike into an endurance road bike.

Do you happen to remember the name of that Fire Look out tower? There are a few of them out there. I went to a Butler Look Out last weekend.
