Here is my cover of Slint "Good Morning, Captain" off of their 1991 album Spiderland. (What you see is what you hear, no lip-synching or instrument-synching). I hope you like it. I love this song, and I know my version will never be as good as the original, but I really wanted to cover it.
Lyrics:
"Let me in," the voice cried softly
From outside the wooden door
Scattered remnants of the ship could be seen in the distance
Blood stained the icy wall of the shore
"I'm the only one left. The storm took them all,"
He managed as he tried to stand
The tears ran down his face
"Please, it's cold."
When he woke, there was no trace of the ship
Only the dawn was left behind by the storm
He felt the creaking of the stairs beneath him
That rose, from the sea, to the door
There was a sound at the window then
The captain started, his breath was still
Slowly, he turned
From behind the edge of the windowsill
There appeared the delicate hand of a child
His face was flush and timid
He stared at the captain through frightened eyes
The captain reached for something to hold on to
"Help me," he whispered, as he rose slowly to his feet
The boy's face went pale
He recognized the sound
Silently, he pulled down the shade against the shadow
Lost in the doorstep of the empty house
"I'm trying to find my way home.
I'm sorry . . .
And I miss you
I miss you
I've grown taller now
I want the police to be notified
I'll make it up to you
I swear, I'll make it up to you
I miss you."
Just realized the drummer, guitarist & bassist are all the same dude.
Damn it I knew something was up-my balloon is burst
they're hiring at the CIA- you should apply!
I think they might know the singer too.
I was going to judge the quality of this entire video by your scream at the end. You passed brilliantly.
Wow. My first thought was "They're not going to pull this off." My last thought was "Holy shit, they pulled it off."
googlymoogly64 They? He...
HE, not they! :)
killer cover by far best I've ever heard
Thanks!! :) :) Glad you like it!
I'm really jealous that there are people who know others who are willing enough to do this. Nice job.
great rendition. since there's no pro- live version by slint themselves, it's a good thing that we can enjoy this. this song is like a classical piece of music and can resonate through a different interpreter each time...
Whoa. The original is one of my favorite songs of all time. I just have to say, that was phenomenal, very well done.
Fuck yeah! You killed it! I'm sending this to Pajo...
I'm overwhelmed by this cover. It sounds almost exactly like the original version. Now I have to take a look what else you guys are doing.
You GUY, no s. It's one person.
Very true to the original. Like other commenters, I didn't expect to hear a cover of this! Great cover.
My 2-year-old son really dug it, too. When it ended he said "more song?" and he was singing along with you. I wonder if I should be worried.
Slint is awesome
Been listening to Slint for 30 years, bucket list is to see them live one day :) #NOLA
Saw them in Paris a few years ago for their Spiderland tour, they played the entire album, nothing else. Awesome. :)
@@mrg4388 jealous
Love this track. Great taste in music, mate.
Enon Sci Thanks man, glad you like it! :) :)
dat scream takes the cake bro. solid af cover 🔥
great cover, and with much better distorted tone than the album version... something that always bugged me.
How long did this take?
ITS INCREDIBLE
Can't wait to October when Spiderland, Deathcon, Stratosphere and soundtrack for the blind will fuel all my misty walks through the Halloween decorated town
One of the best things I've ever seen in my life. I don't use this word lightly: Amazing.
I really love the way your drumming captured Britt's manic, teeth-gnashing intensity at the end there. That level of both feel and precision is a gift
Thank you!!
the drums are perfect and great guitar tone
Any chance of posting just the drum cam? Favourite drum track ever, makes the song what it is for me.
Cheers
Incredible band. Wonderful song...
Very foggy before the tempest...here is my feelin'.
Well done dude!
That was intense bro!!! Loved it!
Juan Perez Thanks dood! :) :)
Doin' Louisville proud! Fantastic cover, man.
I honestly thought your drumming in the beginning was a bit weak and not as tight as the recording but how you played in the final ending part was better than the original in my opinion. great work!
Damn, you really nailed the ending.
@jhnm156 Dunno man, I have this song memorized and it's my favorite of all time. I thought he played it incredibly well. It's a nice homage to the original, I'd say.
Congrats man! You just made my day!
Fucking spot on!
Cheers from Portugal
Não esperava ver mais um português nos comentários ahahah
fantastic performances and fuckin really cool video editing too!
I miss music like this so much!
3000 views only? Fuck. This needs more.
Dude is a beast! Great cover!!
Sensational cover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i never thought i would see a cover of this song, especially in videosong format. rad.
wow dude you've got it all. this video is awesome.
Amazing job. It gave me chills just like the original!
This is an excellent cover. Keep the good work.
Are you letting the A and D strings ring out along with the fretted notes on the bass riff? That's how I've thought it was always played but I'm unsure.
This is as close as I’ve seen to correct, the tabs online certainly don’t give this bass part it’s due😂I don’t however think it’s all downpicks the way it’s done here, the videos I’ve seen seem to suggest a substantial amount of uppicking, as you’d expect in Slint...it looks sometimes as though it’s all uppicked, but I can’t get it to sound exactly right like that, it’s some weird mix of up and down picking. Then again other live videos w a diff bass player from earlier in the aughts looks like all down picking. Someday I’ll know. Just another spinning plate in the brilliance of this song. This guys attention to detail is wonderful tho
@@djw267 man I haven't payed attention to the picking strokes. But yea, idk how many different bass players they've had, but I always recognize the one dude from his red colored Daion bass, really cool but very rare bass to find from the 80s.
Sick cover dude! well don't
man its awesome you even attempted to cover this and even better you fucking nailed it the way you did. good shit
one of my all time faves. you guys did an awesome job
REALLY good cover. 4:30 best part lol.
***** Thanks!! :) :)
+big papi Thanks so much for the kind words! Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I just found that youtube had flagged your comment as spam. I will check out those bands you mentioned. :)
+State Shirt liked your reply, from 1 year ago...lol. Never saw it for some reason. Still the best cover, btw.
Wahhhh I misss you!!!
This is awesome! Great performance, great audio, and gorgeous video! What camera did you use?
Decent cover. Pretty much nailed the original's sound
Decent? Come on, it's really good.....
A subtle but oddly required element of this song: UPstrokes. It's many, many upstrokes all around. It seems to help keep the brooding nature of the song intact...maintains a delicate touch/feel and keeps the tempo in check.
Thank you for this audio i love this song but i can't wacht the original 'cause im on iPad so im watching this and very similar congratulations
4:31 haha that's funny 😅
😀😃😄
this is dope
great cover... awesome mix, awesome flashing transparency effect at 6:40
I feel like the guitar part feels like it's missing something without the distant sound
