    Thank you, I now know why I get that weird “folded” effect whenever I try to bend larger tubes. I really enjoy your glass blowing series, and hope you upload more in the future. Definitely earned a subscriber… thanks again!

    Great video! I've been having to do some tube bending/melting to create a sterile bead dispenser. It's basically a glass tube with a mesh filter that I can bake in an oven to sterilize and remove nucleic acids. Any chance you could try to make one of these? I've found it pretty tricky and would be happy to see how an expert might do it.

      Thank you! I would be happy to help, can you send me the design and I can look it over and give some tips for making it. My email is grant@wheelerscientifc.com

    Can the tube of straight glass have a fine particle sand in it for the bending process to help it maintain shape? My interest is to just add a slight even curve over 3" of glass, sight bubble.

    Was the tube sealed at one end? also how do you keep from twisting up your blow tube? just keep it short enough to roll?

    • @joannecarson5568
      @joannecarson5568 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The first part of the video specifically talks about sealing the end of the tube, and then he demonstrates it.
      If you are talking about the blow hose twisting up, you usually attach a swivel at the end of the tube that lets it rotate freely.

    3:59 "bending glass can look straightforward..." haha ironic phrasing.

    Would you please show how the blow hose is made, does it has something that lets it rotate?
    Thanks!

      There’s a rotating barb that is used, they can be hard to find but Mountain Glass has them for sale on their website.

    I am on the look out for torch like that, the one I have seems to blow itself out too easily and isn't really a glassworking torch anyway. Do you have any recommendations for someone on a fairly low budget?

    • @WheelerScientific
      @WheelerScientific  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually got that torch another smaller torch, tool and a 125cf oxygen tank for 100 USD. I always recommend checking eBay and facebook marketplace for torches they pop up every once in a while for a good price. A working Nortel Minor should run you 100-150 USD.

      @@WheelerScientific funny you should say that earlier today I bid £100 for a Nortell Minor

    Can you bend any kind of glass tube? Or does it have to be borosilicate or quartz or something like that? And does it need to have a minimum wall thickness, or wall thickness to diameter ratio?

    Hi, what are the dangers of blowing into glass? Is it safe? I don't mean the art of glass-blowing, I mean literally blowing into hot glass tubing. Is there a risk of inhalation of dangerous stuff? Is there a proper way of doing it? Thanks in advance.

    • @028healey

      I have been blowing scientific glass for 10 years with no issue, just make sure the glass end you are blowing into is flame polished and cool, it is easy to cut your lip.
