    surrounded by
controlling gardeners my garden may be viewed askance ,but I was taught things by a mother who was close to the soil. You have reinforced her lessons. Thank you.

I have seen people control their gardens to sterility. Structure and constant control removes so much energy out of our gardens. I’ve enter environmental sensitive areas where no one has ever messed with these ecosystems…..the take away is the functionality is exceptional and diversity rules. The plants work in harmony claiming their space to survive. It always comes down to human interference .

Thank you for saying that we need more vegetation! It irritates me the way sayings like "climate change" "global warming" are thrown around. Yet the problem is the overbuilding which means less earth and people chop trees down like crazy. Start by planting trees on your property and keep the hard scaping to a minimum. No one wants hear this but we all have to grow food and barter with each other. Its not difficult but there is labor involved.

Very insightful. I've always been a proponent of "controlled chaos" in my gardens. I allow "weeds" to grow until I don't like their looks anymore (celandine, violets, Queen Anne's lace, goldenrod, etc.). I let the natural landscape tell me what to plant where; when a number of big wild rose bushes died out, I replaced them with other shrubs of the same size and shape. And yes, I agree with the comment by adrabruzzese7610, we all need to plant more trees and woody shrubs. Climate change is an important factor in how well our gardens are doing, but it's not enough to sit back and say "well that's the problem." Do something. Mowing acres of grass is ridiculous; fill your space with trees and shrubs and you won't be sitting on a mower all weekend. Thank you for sharing.

@@joannmicik1924 we have so many birds now that are bringing us really bizarre plants in their stool! Being very careful what I’m weeding. The magic happens when the ground is completely covered with vegetation. Filled oí gardens drop down to 50% workload. Trees pop up on their own if they’re protected by lower growth. Nature has this magical energy to encapsulate microclimates. They need a push then they aren’t easily stopped.

Beauty is in the chaos and chaos also has order in a way....I have been leaving some weeds even that are not bothering anything....I never did that before....it works😊

I always classify my weeds into three groups. Easy to get rid of and hard to get rid of and seed factories. Seed factories get weeded first. Hard to get rid of second the easy ones can be left for biomass longer.

what do you think about greenhouse gardening ?

I think a greenhouse should be used to grow plants that need more heat and protection. Nothing more. That simple. You would be able to tell someone “ I can easily grow great tomatoes and cucumbers now.” Greenhouses with a table even get the gardener out of the weather for certain duties.
