Jim, one thing I`ll always regret is not playing double bass... and don't tell me it`s not too late.. I`m 42, wife, kids, mortgage to pay... luckily practice on fretless bass every day so it`s not that bad- Cheers from N. Ireland again! You Rock! (or maybe You Jazz!) hahaha
Tomek Hi, I read your comment and agree, its hard. But its not to late. Its never to late for a dream. What would it take to start with playing double bass? Buying it? What would it cost? And before you are 50 you want to have one? Thats a start, buy a piggybank and start putting money in it. I know you will get there. 👍 You don't have to belirve me, I am only 67, a woman and my dream found me 2 years ago and got a e-bass as a gift. Man, its loving, learning, playing it.
You are my favorite teacher on TH-cam! Your technique tips and advice learning different phrases and practicing repetition helps me a lot with playing bass in a jazz ensemble. Now I wish I didn't sell my fretless, haha
Hi Jim , yesterday I was trying to transcribe the Paul chambers arco parts on yesterdays off of his bass on top album to incorporate some arco language into my double bass playing besides the classical stuff that I do .however, sometimes when he plays the faster eight notes during his solo the bow doesn't quite catch the string and it's hard to hear the pitch. I know that you wrote a book full of his arco transcriptions and wonderd if you had any advice on the subject.
Please pardon me asking for gear: the upright has a nice warm sound, although it sounds like recorded via pickup, not mic. Would you mind telling us what you used for the recording? Besides that, instructive and cool as always. Thank you
RIP: the BEST TEACHER I've ever experienced. I'm buying all of his books...
Look at the man go. I love it.
Your execution, tone and swing are OFF THE HOOK!!! WOW!! I always regretted not playing the upright.
Thanks, glad you noticed. ;)

Haha... thank You Lina... I have to change my attitude then and start collecting money ;) Greetings!
I am 56 and started playing upright 3 months ago; already sounds pretty decent, not least because of Real Bass Lessons

Thanks for the compliment. ;)
The Fretless Bass & Upright Bass then again sound different cause the Fretless Bass is smaller.

recorded direct in to Garage Band, through the M-Audio interface. NO effects or EQs.
Thank you, but did you mic the upright, or use a piezo, and if a piezo, which?
