    This song has more of a country flavor than Janis usually had. It was written by the legendary Kris Kristofferson. They were friends & Janis recorded it right before her death. When Kris heard her version he said "It's her song now". He still gets emotional when talking about her in interviews.
    Btw, I met Mr. Kristofferson several years ago. He's a very kind, down to earth gentleman.
    And hey, I'd love to see you react to Janis singing "Turtle Blues" studio version. Down & dirty Blues (the best kind!).

    Sounds like she's in a bar. She wasn't but it sure gives you that feeling.

    My favorite Janis song is called "Move Over" just because it is so groovy...the guitar, drums, church organ is exceptional. It's not her best vocal performance, but all around "SONG" MY FAVORITE...FIRE GUITAR.

    Krist Kristoferson originally wrote this song about "Barbi" an assistant at Sound City Record (a teen assistant) that many were enamored with. Janis switched it to Bobby.

    The 'Pearl' album, her last, finds her in peak control of her powers as a singer. From a purr to a sultry growl to a full-throated howl, she used it to showcase the heart and soul of every song, and her need or willingness to lay bare her own soul. 'Move Over', Half Moon', 'Cry Baby', can't go wrong. Full Tilt Boogie Band kept up, carried her along, or the other way 'round, hard to tell. Live with Tom Jones, or on the Dick Cavett show with the Kosmic Blues Band, from a year before this, it's all good.

    My sister used to play this song incessantly. One day she took a little 4 year old girl that had been left in her care to see about getting a Medicaid card. While they waited, a man named Bobby McGee was called over a loud speaker. Chelsea immediately starts singing very loudly, "Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, Bobby." All my sister could do was hide her face and wait for it to end. "I'd trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday." Best line in a song ever!!

    "Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained; rode us all the way to New Orleans". That really hearkens back to the long lost art of hitchhiking. You don't see it much anymore but back in the 60s and 70s you would often see people along the highways or on the on-ramps with their thumb out, seeking a ride somewhere. It seems amazing these days but back then, people used to pick them up. My family occasionally picked them up even. I even did a little hitchhiking in the early 80s myself, traveling from St Peter MN to Grand Forks ND, which would be about a 5 hour drive. I remember getting picked up by a guy in a dump truck full of barrels. I asked him what was in the barrels. He said it was used cooking grease from restaurants. I asked what they do with it and he said they make cosmetics out of it. You learn something new every day. 😲🤢 😂

    • @lathedauphinot6820
      @lathedauphinot6820 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only time I’ve hitchhiked in the USA was when my car broke down in Montana in 1989, but I was picked up in 15 minutes and I made new friends. I hitchhiked from Hamburg to Berlin and back in 1985 with a German friend. Back then you had to go through East Germany to get to Berlin, and you were only supposed to stop for gas or cigarettes, and you weren’t supposed to talk to anyone, so if you got a ride it would probably take you the whole way. We went into a diner at the border and found a ride that took us all the way to Berlin. The Germans are organized. On the way back you went to a certain spot, and there you waited in a short line for your turn, and people stopped looking for someone to talk to on the 3 hour ride to West Germany.

    Janis came from Texas and used to pal around with the 13th Floor Elevators, the first psychedelic band. Their song You’re Gonna Miss Me is a 60s classic. The lead singer Roky Erickson went solo and went crazy, and his work had a unique apocalyptic hellfire and horror imagery. You’d probably like If You Have Ghosts and Bloody Hammer.

    • @lathedauphinot6820
      @lathedauphinot6820 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back then, and until Ann Richards was governor, you could be sentenced to life in prison for one joint in Texas, which is what Roky was allegedly caught with. Musicians were targeted by police, and many chose to plead an insanity defense and go to the state mental hospital rather than face a life term in prison. Roky did. The big problem with that was the State of Texas took it very seriously, the patients weren’t released after a short time like they thought they’d be, and they were subjected to shock treatment and other horrible contemporary “treatments”. Roky was already fragile, and that sent him over the edge. Ironic and sad.

    There's only ever been one Janis but I've got another artist for you to check out. She comes the closest to Janis I've ever seen. Please react to Beth Hart Am I The One live at Paradiso. There's a couple of live performances of this song; make sure you do the Paradise one. I saw her last night live; she's 50 now and still absolutely killing it! It's a shame her mental health and drug problems derailed her career when she was younger but she's got it under control now. Best artist I've discovered on TH-cam; all her live performances are absolute fire!

    Janis’ story is one to research.
    She grew up in a small town in TX where she was bullied about her looks and awkward individually. He parents were very Christian and didn’t approve of her career choice but learned to be proud.
    The best part: after she made it big, she rolled up to her high school reunion in her Rolls Royce, super killer attire and an attitude of , “NOW, look at me, you jerks! What have YOU done? Remember when you made fun of me and made my life miserable? Well, folks, right back at you!”

    • @minigirl6839
      @minigirl6839 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She also let the entire football team of her high school in Port Arthur, run a train on her. Janis was no angel. She was rude, crude and brash, and that was on a good day. She brought a lot of her problems on herself, due to her lack of self control. She died of an overdose of heroine for that same reason. She was a phenomenal singer, but she gave out as much shit, as she received. She wasn't any better than the people who supposedly mocked her. She wasn't a turn the other cheek kind of person. Again, she was a great singer, and she made Texas proud, but there's way more to her story than what you said. In small East Texas towns, everybody knew everybody's business, and Janis had plenty of business. She didn't fit in in Port Arthur, but that doesn't make the town or the people bad. When she was so strung out on heroine after moving to San Francisco, she couldn't get clean there. She actually came home to Texas, and she got clean. As soon as she got back to California ,she started using again and OD'd. There's two sides to every story. May she RIP 🙏 🕊
