    "Violence is not strength and compassion is not weakness."
    I still take this to heart 50 years after seeing it.

    To me THIS will always be King Arthur, not a cool sword or tales of adventure define him, this does. Despite the pain and betrayal he resolved to be better and rise above and rule as a kind and CIVILIZED king, a king who preservers to always rule without cruelty and understand others.

    I first saw this movie 47 years ago as a seventh grader. It touched me then and it still does today as a 60 year old. I guess I am a hopeless romantic.

    King Author is the foil of Henry VIII. Author was, even if only fictional, a real MAN, while Henry VIII, though demonstrably a real historical man, was a spoiled tyrant, monster child. Follow Henry VIII at your own peril, friends.....

    Geez, King Solo....you couldn't let this critical scene and its music play to the conclusion -- music builds to a magnificent climax as the first half of the movie ends and the intermission card displays? How could you cut that music off so abruptly?! That music fills the theatre as the curtains close and house lights dim up.
    BTW, has anyone noticed that the post on the chair that Arthur stands next to, looks uncannily like a phallus? And as he considers a man's vengeance for this betrayal, the shadow of the phallus plays across his cheek as clear as day. Then as he comes to the realization that "violence is not strength and compassion is not weakness" he moves out of the shadow and the penis is gone from his face. He resolves to be civilized -- not to love himself above all others. That phallus is a not too subtle, well placed symbol; I can't believe it is just accidental. Joshua Logan had to have done it on purpose.

    • @kingsolo6241
      @kingsolo6241  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha. I wish I could play this out till the end; I really do. But, the copy write thing stands in the way. That’s is all I could give. As for the phallus, swords were purposely made this way. Well for better control of the weapon. It was a sign of strength and peace. The sword handle will always represent the phallus.
