Just wanted to drop a quick message thanking you for all the work you have put into these videos. Recently picked the game up on PS4 in the PSN sale, and don't really fancy playing through the whole campaign mode as human to learn the intricacies. I used to paint Bad Moon Space Orks as a 'wee lad' in the eighties so I have an affinity with those guys so I have to play with them, eh :) Anywaaaay, that's by the by. I checked out a few of the BB2 gamer videos first, but yours are far and away the most helpful, easiest to follow, and I can only speak for myself here, the most accessible for a total noob like me. Cheers man. Much appreciated.
Nice! Bought the vg on Steam couldn't work it out... kept losing games that I'd purposely overpowered my team. Watched half this video and won next two games. Thanks Legend
Mike Davies I use this too! I've sent this link to all my friends! Been playing BB since January and I've already assembled and painted 3 teams - orcs, humans and pro elf. Next team on the list - chaos dwarves! I think I'm hooked. My mate loves playing necromantic, even though he struggles with it. Most fun game I've discovered in a while though!
Yeah that's what I told him. He loves the concept of the team though. Getting block on the werewolves early is what I recommended too. You can never have too much block!
Great Job Mike! About your aspect ratio problem you mention at the beginning: you might consider only showing the text and pic at the top and bottom left at the beginning, and then replacing it with the dugouts and the cards. That should allow you to zoom in on the pitch quite a bit. =)
Thanks - awesome videos. I think I last played this one when you started to ;) Was nice watching your videos while waiting for my copy to be delivered.
I'm actually coming back to it after 25 years of hiatus :) I plan to use 2nd edition rules and arena (which is the best of all editions) with some personal tweaks -- I even think about putting everything in the future (kinda lika SpeedBall 2 amiga game setting). This game has infinite potential, just like chess or go.
Another response to Kevin Carpenter's comment of: 'why would anyone play this?' is, games like this are played by people who enjoy exercising their imagination and engaging their intellect in a constructive way, unlike many of today's participants of 'instant gratification' pursuits!
thanks for the awesome video. we got into BB from the video game, then we tried Blitz Bowl and had a blast with that. this video is great. thanks for your efforts at expanding the hobby.
Its my birthday today and I was debating about getting into this or something like shadespire to be honest this seems super fun so I'll go with blood bowl I think lol.
I used to have Bloodbowl as a kid around 1991-93 played it quite a lot. It had a styro foam type pitch. These days i still play the video games. Blood bowl 2 is pretty good. Also, whilst tabletop gaming is fairly popular, there are no Games Workshops in Chile.
GingerKidd Adventures I do plan to make an order from amazon.com at some point, so i may well do it pretty soon, i plan to order a new video card and might add that to it, whilst i'm at it.
If i start buying other teams like undead, skaven, wood elves etc, do i need to buy packs of cards for the teams too? Or can you just literally buy a box of minis and have everything you need? 🧙♂️
Hello, thank for the video ! What happen when a player failed to do a pass ? Because the rule say that the ball scatter three times. But from where ? The target or the player who throw ?
Mike Davies yeah for sure troll... a few goblins and I just saw an amazing conversion of the new age of sigmar mega boss done up into a troll very cool... might go hard into skaven tho lot of cool converting there
I would if I was better with them! They are easy to do OK with, but difficult to do very well. Use the Blitzer as ball carrier to give you the extra move, and just get practising with caging.
Been tempted to get into the tabletop game since I love the pc game but I've heard rumours of a new edition so I'm not sure if it's worth jumping in now?
I have a question, I found a copy of blood bowl in my loft but it turns out to be the 1st edition, what would i need to bring it up to the current edition living ruleset?
Hi Trelane, first edition is a lovely relic, but not really compatible with the current game. Probably best bet unless you are a collector is to ebay it and use the proceeds to buy the new game!
Do you know if there is a difference between the human and ork teams in the set and the one that comes in the solo sets? I have seem videos on the solo sets saying they ate the same but they are gray plastic while in the starter they are blue/green. Is that the only difference? Are the starter easy build while the solo are regular?
@@MikeDavies_sann0638 I watched the SpikeyBits unboxing video of then and they where grey however he said they where the same. I remember thinking 'but they are blue/green in the base so how can they be the same'.
Ah, sorry, any particular point? When I needed to lean forward to move the humans? I've used a headset before, but then it's been about too much heavy breathing (exciting stuff, BB...)
Thanks! Just bought Blood Bowl a few days ago, and this is helping me understand some rules I didn't really get. But I'm still confused on this: How does the scatter template work? The instructions use the example that a human rolls a 2, 2, 1. Does that mean it goes in the 2 space, stays in the two space, and then it moves to one? I don't exactly get it, sorry if I sounds stupid, I'm sure I do, but could someone help me?
If you roll a 2, you move the ball one square in the 2 direction. You then move the ball another square in the 2 direction, then a square in the 1 direction. So it will end up (the way I have the template) 3 squares above and one to the left of where it started.
It really depends what game you have. If it's Cyanide's Blood Bowl (be it the original, dark elves edition, legendary edition or chaos edition) then as long as you play the classic mode and not the blitz mode then it's reasonable close to the tabletop experience (some things are different. For example you don't have to announce a foul, a hand-off or a pass before you move your player). If you have Blood Bowl 2 made by Cyanide then, unless there have been some major changes, most of the skill uses are not optional. This is a rather large change (at least from a tactical perspective) to the tabletop game because there are situations where you don't want to use a skill. An example: pass skill allows you to reroll a failed pass roll. You might want to "fail" a roll that ended in an inaccurate pass rather than reroll it, because the reroll might end in a fumble. A very bad thing if you're close to the end-zone and there are opponents nearby. You would rather throw the ball far away and minimize the risk that your opponent can score the next turn, even if it means that any of your other players fails to catch it. If you have any of the less graphical versions of the game then they are more or less 1:1 copies of the tabletop.
You could do - I've converted loads of teams from Warhammer, but more common is to use dedicated teams by GW or 3rd party suppliers. www.sann0638.co.uk/bb/bb-teams/ or the GW site for examples.
Just starting to watch this, but why don't the teams setup and THEN roll to see who gets the first turn? Seems like the Orc setup was very reactionary to knowing they have the first turn, which doesn't make a ton of sense for realism or balance when the ball hasn't been kicked yet. Also I'm sad to see they'd kept the 40k WS/BS style for Agility, of 7-Agility=target. Why not just write Agility like 3+ instead of 4 to save the math or chart checking. And lol that you have to roll to pick up the ball when it's uncontested and no one is around. Professional players unable to run and grab a ball from the ground, k. I've seen Blood Bowl in White Dwarf since I was a kid, but never realized how slow it is (2 players * 8 turns * 2 halfs * 12 teammates, soooo much to resolve), or how little it captures the back and forth intensity of a football match. Having roll offs would really increase the off-turn interactivity and gameplay. Or even a push-your-luck mechanic that improved "Go For It". Big miss imho.
yeah, they tried to keep changes to a minimum, which was pretty good of them (re: the ag4 comment). And yes, having the first turn is a big advantage - the team that receives should (generally) score. Feel free to playtest doing it differently!
But why is it good that they kept Agility 4 with a chart instead of a much clearer and easier to read Agility 3+? I don't see dragging a kludgy sacred cow from the 80s as a good thing. Is Agility use in other mechanics not shown in the video (or that I missed) where it's something like dice roll + Agility, where then Ag4 makes sense? I mean realistically anyone who has played a GW game does 7-stat out of reflex, but when you take a step back it's really silly.
ha, yeah a game takes an hour or two, but it's basically as intense as a board game can get when played at high levels, and also as silly as it can get!
Thank you very much for sharing this videos it helps our group tremendously in learning this wonderful game can you please clarify one thing? If player a assisting another player tackling the opponent once that result decided can now that player who did the assisting now become the tackling player and the one who did the Tackle now become assisting? Or is this considered illegal because each player already performed 1 action although I'm not sure if assisting is considered an action thank you again
This is probably late and irrelevant for you but assisting players is not considered to be an action. The only actions in the game are Move, Block(not as part of a blitz), Pass, Foul, and Blitz. Other than Block all the actions listed allow the player to use their movement as part of the action, and only Blitz allows you to move after preforming the dice roll(You can't move after passing but you can after Blitzing)

The best BB beginner's guide on youtube by some distance... thanks!
Thanks Alex, that's awesome!
Thank you for making this video. I just got the starter set to play with my 10 year old and this was really helpful. Truly appreciate it.
Nice!
Bought the vg on Steam couldn't work it out... kept losing games that I'd purposely overpowered my team.
Watched half this video and won next two games.

Thanks Mike, I'm just getting back into Blood Bowl after many years, this helped!
Great video, i basically got my buddies to watch your video b4 we played and it made there first games much easier.
That's really good to hear, thanks.

Necro can be hard - frenzy without block to start, and the golems take a while to skill up, while the ghouls die! Great once they get going though.
Yeah that's what I told him. He loves the concept of the team though. Getting block on the werewolves early is what I recommended too. You can never have too much block!
Cool but arguing is half the fun
Nice one Mike! We need more bloodbowl on youtube

Best tutorial on Blood Bawl on youtube, although my favorite is 2nd edition from 1988.
Thanks? Do you still play it? First to 3 made games go on a long time! I used to play teams of star players against each other. Good always beat Evil!

fair enough. Enjoy!
This was VERY informative. Looking forward to playing.... think i'm sold and will buy the starter set this weekend lol

Brian Bunker exactly... to me Blood Bawl is like chess with dice so the outcome is more unpredictable...
While you ARE correct, you really didn't need to sound like such a fedora-tipping fart-huffer about it.
thanks for the awesome video. we got into BB from the video game, then we tried Blitz Bowl and had a blast with that. this video is great. thanks for your efforts at expanding the hobby.
Thank you for this excellent video. I feel ready for my first match now.
Painting the base's is a really good idea ill prob end up painting the edge's on my teams
Absolutely. Lots do that, sometimes with just a thin stripe.
Great video. Just bought the new edition. Could you explain agility modifiers for me a bit more please
This was super helpful. Thanks Mike!
Great concise overview! I'm really excited to play now.
Great job mate, just bought the game and this comes in handy!
Great video! Me and my girlfriend are going to go play our first game now! Thanks!
Good video but any chance of increasing the volume and resolution?
Its my birthday today and I was debating about getting into this or something like shadespire to be honest this seems super fun so I'll go with blood bowl I think lol.
awesome - a load of people do like shadespire, but BB has been around a long time and will be around for ages. Shadespire might, too!
Excellent video. Thanks very much sir
BVargas78 I'd rather be in Chilie than Glasgow with these minus temperatures at the moment. Space hulk & blood bowl are the best games GW do.
HAve you tried ordering the game? you can get it on amazon for $85 starting the 28th or from GW for $99. take your pick
GingerKidd Adventures I do plan to make an order from amazon.com at some point, so i may well do it pretty soon, i plan to order a new video card and might add that to it, whilst i'm at it.
haha okay then. Ill be ordering it monday, as well. Have fun!
Start the Chilean BB revolution!
Really good video, thanks. One question about throwing distance measuring - is there any table with inches/agility_modifiers in the rulebook?
There should be, yep - QP is +1, SP 0, LP -1, Bomb -2. Not to do with inches as such, but the sections of the range ruler.
thank you very much! Im off for my first game of BB now and Im sure this was a good basis for it
Great! New one coming for November rules update.
Hey Mike great video. Just a quick note - the Humans actually get 4 rerolls to balance the odds against the Orcs, who get 3.
Adam Tomkins hi Adam, didn't think of that really, just chose 3 as a nice number! Team building is a whole extra can of worms :)
Ah yes we haven't got into team building yet!
Wow best BB tuto on YT ty
So how do you know the other players stats like the goblins the miniatures dont come with cards
they are in the rulebook, and also available if you search blood bowl crp
Oh thank you Mike thanks for the info and great playthrough I learned alot.
Thank you. Are the rules in the video game same as the board game ?
99%, yep. I know there were a couple of differences in BB1, can't remember about BB2. Almost all skills is optional, is one thing.
Bloodbowl 2 uses the same art style as the new board game. I'm assuming they use the same rules.
They do in theory, absolutely, but there were a couple of differences in the way they are applied.
If i start buying other teams like undead, skaven, wood elves etc, do i need to buy packs of cards for the teams too? Or can you just literally buy a box of minis and have everything you need? 🧙♂️
Just the minis. The spikes have background fluff, tactics and some new star players, but nothing essential.
@@MikeDavies_sann0638 Brilliant! Great video, thankyou so much! 🧙♂️
Hello, thank for the video ! What happen when a player failed to do a pass ? Because the rule say that the ball scatter three times. But from where ? The target or the player who throw ?
the target, if it's inaccurate. once from the thrower if it is a fumble (modified or unmodified 1)
Great video just started painting my ork team The WAAAGHS-Town Wyverns!!!
get hold of some more positionals, and a troll, and you're set! Gobbos optional...
Mike Davies yeah for sure troll... a few goblins and I just saw an amazing conversion of the new age of sigmar mega boss done up into a troll very cool... might go hard into skaven tho lot of cool converting there
hey bud, could you do one on Ork tactics. Love them but I suck!
I would if I was better with them! They are easy to do OK with, but difficult to do very well. Use the Blitzer as ball carrier to give you the extra move, and just get practising with caging.
Great video: thanks for sharing! :-)
Been tempted to get into the tabletop game since I love the pc game but I've heard rumours of a new edition so I'm not sure if it's worth jumping in now?
I would say yes. Rumours are for this year but nothing confirmed and who knows what covid will do?
It's confirmed now but still worth jumping into, I doubt a ton will change. Or at least, get your models painted and ready to rumble before it drops
Any other tips to help me get good?

Until Christmas - but I thought this video would last beyond that! :)
Christopher Walken needed more cowbell but we need more Bloodbowl!
I don't understand, but good stuff! :)
