I'm my last video I flew FROM LaGuardia and my flight was so delayed that we had to return to the gate for more fuel. In this video, a return to the gate for my flight TO LaGuardia happened again - but this time for a different reason.
Come fly with me from Orlando to LaGuardia on a Delta A321. We'll be spending quite a bit of time together despite this being a short flight!
#aviation #flightdelay #deltaairlines
Bro, you’re a champion. You remained composed, and patient despite weather delays and crew time out. You’re awesome.
Why be any other way? This is the system demonstrating its built in safety. Its understandable that people get grumpy, but anything more is unreasonable. As a crew member myself, I wouldn't book anything under 3 hours if connecting through a Port Authority airport.
Thanks Ian!
I`d rather be late than dead. I`ll get grumpy sure but i`m not going to take it out on the crew or the Airport Service workers.
great video as always, fun to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Groovy video, as always ! Delays are part of the game, and around a 6-hour delay is inordinate and untenable...but there is a silver lining...night-time Manhattan view was breath-taking ! Perfectly agree with you that in the last leg, approach and descent into the LGA airport the glare interfered during the lower Manhattan segment, but you were able to capture wonderful views of midtown Manhattan... Maybe covering the camera/phone with a blanket they provide (on request, probably as it is not a long haul) might have helped. Incidentally, I myself was in U.S.A. for some time and have just returned home (India). Long haul both ways as both the flights were direct...! Remarkable video, Peter, all said and done (and endured--- by you!).
I love this channel already… the insight is amazing
Thanks so much!
All your Video's are Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like them! Thanks so much!
Wow. When it rains it pours. Great video but it stinks that you put up with all that you went through. I admire your patience. You made the best of the situation. God bless you and thank you for sharing your journeys with us.
Thanks so much as always!
I love your use of music. First, the “Law And Order” TV-series type of music played to accompany the dark-screen time-updates. Second, the music you played during the flight up to the airport. I loved that it was in-sync with the flashing-lights on the wingtip you were photographing. 🙂!
Thanks so much!! I appreciate that!
You nailed it even with the lights on.....Beautiful views of Manhattan! Reminded me of that tour video you did at night!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Good job as always 🔥💯
Thanks 💯!
I definitely try to get the front of the people mover whenever I travel through any airport that has one. 😁
Cool!
Good video Peter despite the delays. You handled it well! Surprised DL didn’t cxl. Good views on the approach to LGA. ✈️ 👍
Thank you, Jerry!
Great video! Last time I flew out of mco flights got delayed because of storms in atl and afternoon storms in mco so 4 of the flights to atl, one of which was the one I flew on, all boarded and departed around the same time. A 767-300 two 757-200s one of which was my flight and a 757-300 I had never seen that many flights going to the same place leave at the same time.
Yikes!
Still a very good video Peter.
You did the best you could with what you had to work with. 👍
Thanks 👍!!!
Thanks for being patient!
As a ramp agent being outside in a lightning storm is dangerous.
The crew can only fly a certain amount of hours.
Both these things are not only a airline policy but also FAA regulations
People screaming and yelling at the CSAs are definitely not helping but rather making things worse
It is so true!
You had a couple of major bummers for this flight, but it was a great video for us, as usual!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video as always! Unfortunate that they had the lights on but oh well
Thanks for watching!
Weather is a toss up ⛈when flying! Keep a dark towel handy when trying to film at night. Thanks again.
Good idea! Thanks!
What a bad luck…again … a big applause for you Peteeeeerrrr!!
Thanks Francooooooo!
You are doing a great job on your videos
Thank you so much 😀
Peter I really enjoy watching your videos, very informative. I’m not sure if you have done a video on the history of LaGuardia airport , if not I would love for you to put one together. Show some olds and new pics and some fun facts about the airport . I know it’s got a lot of history . Keep up the good work ✌️
Thanks! Very good idea!
I know it's just chance but I flew DL A321s MCO-LGA-MCO in May and went off without a hitch, both flights landed early and the DL terminal at LGA is wonderful.
You never know what can happen!
From my end the cabin lights didn't take away from city view too much. As always, a breath taking skyline.
Thanks!!
People normally applaud after a landing when a flight has been seriously delayed or has been a rough flight. I’ve seen it happen on domestic flights a few times.
Sometimes they do it even just because the flight is so darn long!
First time I've seen it in the USA and I have been seriously delayed many times - but I've seen it happen dozens of times in Europe on routine flights!
Great video! Did you buy a basic economy ticket? I’m surprised that as a diamond medallion you didn’t get a complimentary upgrade at least to comfort + on this leg. Thanks for sharing :)
Hi Salomon and thanks for watching! I purchased a regular main cabin ticket. Sometimes I'll choose seats in the rear of the plane because I am traveling with others or I want a view of the wing. I'm usually #1 on the upgrade list but will often turn it down. I'll never purchase basic economy because that fare doesn't allow seat selection (and I need a window seat!)
@@PeterMasella Oh I see, and yeah I totally understand that 😅. Keep up the great work!
At least you stayed in the same time zone! What a long day!😡🇺🇸
It was long enough to fly in multiple time zones!
Thanks!
Thanks so much mmlips! I appreciate it!
I really enjoy your videos and amazed at your knowledge of airline travel. Are u a pilot and or worked as an ATC?
Thanks so much! No I am not a pilot or air traffic controller. I just love this stuff!
Peter, have you ever spent the night in the Marriott at mco .. it’s must do & your right about the lights
I have stayed at the Hyatt Regency inside terminal B that overlooks the interior fountain. I’m not sure which Marriott you mean. Thanks for watching!
oh my gawd!
!!
Ok love your channel I’m also an aviation nut at 79 yrs old .How do you know what runway wind directions etc.
Liveatc.net provies real time ATC to get that information.
Thanks for trying, Peter! The vagaries of air travel. We appreciate your efforts. And it wasn't as bad as what you think :) And there'll be other flights!
Thank you, James!
So why did Delta not figure out the pilots exceeded their time window before you pushed back the first time?
It happens. Obviously someone has to weigh the gains vs losses. Put yourself in the company’s shoes. You have a crew at the gate, ready to go. They’re tight for duty, but it’s still doable with more than an hour headroom to play with, do you take a legal crew off a flight, and delay the flight for 3 more hours or more to call a brand new crew out? Or do you use the crew you have and try to mitigate the delay? Aviation is a very dynamic environment. Some delays are expected, some are unexpected. Obviously there were more delays than anticipated after leaving the gate. It’s no one’s fault.
@@iflyplanes687 understood, but they had pushed back and were taxiing to the runway when their hours ran out? I figured this would have been known prior to pushback. But agreed it’s a dynamic complicated process
I was wondering the same thing???
Perhaps at the time of pushback, their fix was open then it closed.
🎶"Delta is ready... when YOU are."🎶 Remember that old jingle, Peter?
No, I don't remember that one. I was ready, though!
@@PeterMasella It was part of a well-known Delta ad campaign on tv and radio. I suppose that was actually long ago but it seems like yesterday. Most travelers knew the jingle so well that they could sing along.
Peter, you have a great channel, it's very entertaining and interesting. A couple of interesting points, though 1, pilots like truck drivers are limited in the hours, they can work. 2, pilots have to retire when they're in their 60s. And yet the people that make those laws are still in office when they're in their 90s and senile. Also, your food was not free. Figure your pay rate times 6 hours and that's what the free food really cost. It good you love Aviation, You keep up the good work.
Thank you!
I had plenty of trouble returning to LGA back in July. My flight at 7 am was cancelled at 5 am and I was not offered an alternative. Trying to call Delta, could not get through. Tried their text service, could not get through. Finally had to get another ticket for $1000 to fly through MSP to Philidelphia, take Amtrak to NYC, take Lyft to LGA to pick up my car and go home. Finally got ahold of Delta via email and they refunded my unused ticket from RSW to LGA reducing the ticket cost to $750. It is very difficult now when flights are canceled to get support from Delta or any other airline unless you go to the airport, wait in line, and try to get rerouted. Next time will probably try that.
Yikes!
Today LaGuardia had some landings on Runway 13 & a very rare Allegiant air
I know! I was excited about that because I’m flying to LGA tonight but they changed runways!
I agree with others: if this is your disappointing view/footage, we'll be all right.
😉
Tomorrow im flying back home from FLL and I hope the weather doesn't get bad and delays my flight
I hope it goes well!
Peter can you continue to talk about the turbulence that is experienced during each of your flights? it is interesting to know how often it happens
Honestly it rarely happens these days! Only a handful of flights have I experienced turbulence and I felt that they were all light turbulence.
@@PeterMasella interesting because I have been flying Breeze Air out of Macarthur Airport on Long Island and those Embraer Jets experience a ton of turbulence and shifting in the clouds. It was one of the most violent flights I ever encountered
I live in NYC from '92-'03 and even tho I moved back to my home city in '03 I still spent a lot of time in NYC until 2010 when I no longer had the job I had that sent me there and the friends I had there just fell off over time and haven't been back in 10 years! My very first trip to NYC was in 1980 when I was 10 and NYC in 1980 was not a good place to be when you're 10. Anyway I used to fly for work a lot starting in 1998 so btwn '98-'10 I used all 3 NYC airports depending on which airline I flew on. CO was EWR, US was LGA and B6 was JFK. Since I lived up in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan LGA was the most convenient of the 3 to get to. And once I learned how easy it was to take the A train to 125th St then the bus that went down 125th St to LGA. That was usually a quick trip but once I got to LGA that's when the stress levels really jumped. And I'm sure that it was worse then than it is now. I don't think I ever flew out of LGA on time, ever. And during the summer the evening thunderstorms always caused havoc. I can remember having a 4pm departure to LGA from any city that was less than an hour flight and landing at 1am. Once I flew CO into EWR in July and had a 3pm flight, again just an hour away, and didn't land until 8pm. But due to severe T-Storms as we were en-route they got slammed and the airports power was knocked out so they closed the airport. Now imagine every gate at EWR is occupied because no flights can push back. And imagine the volume of aircraft lined up to land and they have to land at EWR despite no gates for them to park, including my flight. We landed at 8pm and didn't get off the plane until after midnight. They had all arriving aircraft sit on the tarmac and then when they reopened the airport had to let all the planes at the gates push back to leave while getting all of the planes on the tarmac to gates so they could make room for the planes that needed to take off . It was a nightmare and they weren't telling us anything. They couldn't give us drinks because even the
Thanks for sharing your story, Matt! There have been so many problems in the past, today and probably for the foreseeable future.
The monorail has a Disney feel to it because I believe Disney had a share in MCO back in the 90’s when they were a main hub for Continental.
Ah! Interesting!
The people-mover at MCO is not a monorail as you can see from the video. There are a pair of rails with a center power and control conduit. It’s a Bombardier (now Alstom) Movia that is based on the Pittsburgh SkyBus by Westinghouse. Westinghouse sold to AEG, AEG became part of Adtranz, and Bombarider bought them. Disney has their own people-mover design, but this has never had anything to do this Bombardier product. Bombardier has, independently, worked with Disney on the Orlando park’s actual Monorail.
I've flew Delta 717, okay their wasn't any delay. The flight was on time from Orlando to Laguardia, but the problem was I sat in the back seat. Instead, I got a no window seat, which disappointed me, but anyways the flight was good
Wow! I didn't know Delta flew the 717 on the Orlando to LaGuardia route!
according to Bing, it takes 15 hrs to drive from Orlando to New York.
That’s not that bad!
Why did the pilots leave the gate in the first place when they knew that they would time out by the time they got to the runway? Makes no sense.
It happens. I’m not 100% sure how it works in the US, but in Canada, we are allowed to go over our maximum duty day by a couple hours for very specific circumstances. However, that daily maximum now becomes an absolute hard number… in other words, if we arrive even a minute later than our maximum, we face very serious consequences. This crew was probably doing their utmost best to get everyone to where they had to go but as the delays kept mounting, I suspect that they finally hit a time where they wouldn’t be able to arrive in LGA, with brakes set engines off before their clock ended. In the airline world, if there’s a realistic chance to complete a flight, even if it’s tight, you attempt it. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.
@@iflyplanes687Thank you for this information. Very informative.
I guess they thought they could possibly make it out!
You did a great job of filming, Peter. I would think the pilots and crew would know that they were out of time long before they pushed out of the gate. Just saying.
He does not use film.
@@K1OIK I know that. Just an expression.
@@edwardpetty5401 Do you call a car a horseless carriage? (just an expression).
Thanks Edward!
Sorry you were exposed to the brutal realities of airline travels these days.... All is not well....enjoy your videos enormously!
I still had fun! Thanks for watching!
Maybe next time book your Orlando New York flight via Amsterdam. 😂
lol
So sorry this happened to you hope Delta gave you a huge refund for this long delay and having to change crew because they timed out. It's horrible there's not enough crew members these days so if I were in charge of the FAA I would make these crew members work overtime if it helps passengers get to their destinations on time. One of these days they're gonna have pilotless aircrafts so these incidents can't happen anymore.
If you were in charge of the FAA would you take responsibility for a fatigued pilot crashing his or her aircraft and killing everyone on board? (Don't pretend it hasn't happened). The duty time limits exist for a reason.
I actually requested compensation from Delta and got some money back!
@@PeterMasella oh ok that's good!
I've flown JetBlue back and forth from Boston to Tampa or Sarasota/Bradenton annually for 20 years and only encountered a significant delay once. That one instance was because our plane to Boston was commandeered by a flight to Washington, DC whose plane had been struck by lightning. (DC denizens are more important than Bostonians.) After a 4-hour delay they exhumed a plane from a graveyard (it was worn, dingy, the IFE didn't work, and it smelled like a moldy cellar) and flew in a crew from Orlando. I got a $200 refund from JetBlue, so I assume you got a hefty refund for your much longer inconvenience. Boston, of course, has nowhere near the traffic as LaGuardia.
IFE?
@@K1OIK JetBlue has In Flight Entertainment (TV) on their A320s.
@@Bobrogers99 What did you do with the times you saved not being clear and not typing n light ntertainment ?
I only got the refund after asking for it!
IMHO, The pilots should have known how close it was to their limitation and not wasted everyone's time. 6+ hours delay (ok some weather early on) but two hours on the plane (could have been better organized & made more comfortable for pax with bag loading and fueling before boarding) and then some light chop w/no services during entire flight. Yikes, I haven't flown in a while and don't plan on it any time soon. I'll just watch more of your videos. Is it because your initials are P.M.? Is that why your daytime flights are becoming nocturnal? Oh and lets turn the lights on over Manhattan. You did catch city views very well, despite the challenges.
It was a crazy day but all the passengers handled it really well. Thanks for watching, Phil!
Remind me to never fly with you. 😂
Love your videos, but get better music!
Thanks! Noted!
Peter, I didn’t like the music
Thanks for your input! Noted!
Is Delta still non-union? Such a shame what they did to all the good Northwest Unionized employees. Won't fly them.
I don't know!
@@PeterMasella Just found out pilots are unionized, but FA's are not. Only large airline that drinks the corporate kool aid. If the FA's care so little about themselves on the ground, just imagine how little they care about passengers in the air. Won't fly them.
Thanks!
A couple of Murphy’s Law flights lately..! Still very engaging content despite the inconveniences. Thanks for taking one for the team!
Very appreciated, Michael! Thanks so much!
