    Locked up in a foreign jail thousands of miles from home, a gap year student is accused of murder. This is every parent s worst nightmare but it has been the Palfreemans experience for the past eighteen months.
    Jock Palfreeman s life changed on an evening out in Sofia. I was attacked and they pulled knives on me six times. There was probably a mistranslation or misunderstanding . Jock Palfreeman insists he acted in self-defence but Bulgarian justice charged him with first-degree murder. His father is desperate to prove his innocence but he is fighting a losing battle: Unfortunately the law is different for different people in this country.

      Lol, and the Brits and their derivatives are known morons all over the world. Yes Bulgarians should be bashed because they dared to sentence a drunken british hooligan who stabbed a person to death and who has stabbed people before in his Australia. And this video conveniently did not mention that both victims were stabbed in the back!!
      And even though he was a 100% guilty, he would have gotten away, but he killed the wrong person, whose father, a former MP had enough resources to guarantee that the usual pressure from foreign embassies to release criminals will not work this time. He will not be released or let in Australian prison, we had a similar case with a british hooligan who almost killed - he was sent to UK prison and received a hero welcome, and was pardoned shortly after that, this won't happen again, bad luck for the stabber!

    Ok, so let's have some facts clear:
    - was he carrying an assault knife?
    - was he drunk?
    - was it the first time he was accused of attacking people?
    - did he lied police about the place he was staying?
    - why his friends left the country before they were questioned by the police?
    - why the gypsy was never found?
    I see too many cracks in his story. I have been living long enough in Sofia and I know it can get pretty hot when there is a football game, but common... (!) murders never happened unless an accident occur... (crash, fireworks goes back in the crowd, etc.). He is a murderer and he deserve his sentences (I traveled all around the world and Latin America too, but I have never ever even tough of taking a knife, spray or any kind of weapon).

      Ok, so let's have some facts clear:
      -How come witnesses of the incident were denied their statements in court?
      -How come the camera that caught the whole incident suddenly stopped working?
      -How come the person that was killed is supported by nationalists, racists,hooligans therefore he obviously is a racist himself isn't he? So therefore according to the logic you have of him attacking other people in the past (although you have no more details on that) we can use that logic here and say that he was definitely a racist/nationalist/hooligan that probably didn't like gypsies and other ethnic groups therefore Jocks statement validates the circumstances of what was actually going on.
      -How come Bulgaria is credited as the most corrupt country in terms of everything but in particular for a non functioning justice system?
      Get your head out of the dirt there is no evidence to sentence him, just assumptions on what he could be, because of maybe the past but I don't know how true that is as you did not bring any documents on that. You just believe everything that your politics, money influenced controlled media tell you :) .

    This was not the first time Palfreeman had been questioned by the police over a stabbing. In 2004 he was asked to attend the police station in Chatswood (a suburb of Sydney) following a serious stabbing at a party. The police did not press charges, but the victims James Atack and Matthew Faunt were adamant that Palfreeman was the offender. This stabbing incident was raised during Palfreeman's trial.

    As a Bulgarian I feel sorry for Mr. Palfreeman. Albeit naive to stand up against a whole gang, he stepped in to save human life but was forced to defend himself. The court obviously took bribes from the deceased Mr. Monov's father which is standard practice over here. Mr. Palfreeman might be out on parole now, but that won't take back the 10 years of his life that were essentially taken from him by the corrupt justice system. Because of this miscarriage of justice, our reputation as a people on the world stage has been irreparably damaged. To those of you that say we're a banana republic with corrupt police, judiciary and media - believe me, those of us that are more intelligent, we get it. Murder is more commonly associated with a premeditated act. Manslaughter is usually being the cause of death of someone else by circumstance, self defence or in some way not planned. Both warrant punishment. Punishment determined by a fair justice system, do you believe the current system is fair? Should the Bulgarian tax payers have to pay for his imprisonment? Countless non-profits...really?

    • @bobby3008bul
      @bobby3008bul 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yes "Countless non-profits" - the truth, more than 15 organizations get involved in this case and it became political. You see I agree with you, it should be just a manslaughter case, but Jock's family bribed (donated) money to most famously the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee (dariknews.bg/view_article.php?article_id=1526764), which last year nominated him "Person of the year" and the Bulgarians get super furious about this.
      I have nothing against this boy, he regrets his actions and knowing the Bulgarian system he will be out soon. (no one serves full sentence here). But at the same time I think he deserves his sentence, you base your judgement on one-sided, biased videos like that, which doesn't even bother to talk with the victim's side of the case.
      I blame Jock's family for turning this case into a political circus (instead of fighting within the law). And there are other contexts here - similar case years ago English football hooligan stabbed a boy in Varna, the court send him to jail, than the the Brits ask us to deport him to them. The minute he landed in the UK, they released him (a convicted murderer). So how "fair" are your systems and how is ours, judge for yourself. A lot of double standarts.

    • @Gasinduced
      @Gasinduced 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You're right, my judgement is a speculation based only what this video showed. From what has been portrayed it seems the judicial system may not be as fair to foreigners with what appears to be a Nationalist agenda. The father looks to have pulled all the strings he could to put pressure on this system (the non-profits you mention, that Helsinki Committee, the media, Aus government) which probably works against him really. This would provoke Bulgarian public opinion, add to that the English person from last year you mentioned and the social pressure to make an example of this kid would be intense.
      The whole deportation to serve a sentence is pretty rare which isn't right either. They often escape punishment defeating the notion of justice. It's not just this case by the way, Australians jailed in other countries creates a media frenzy. If the country isn't a western country the legal system is usually presented as broken or corrupt.
      If this group of boys back from a football match really were being rowdy hooligans and did kill a gypsy what would the public opinion be then? Or what if the person intervening was Bulgarian and not a foreigner? The boy who died had a connected public profile so it would still command media attention.
      Lastly, why will he be out soon knowing the Bulgarian system?

    • @carultch
      @carultch 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a difference between murder specifically, and homicide in general.
      Homicide just means that the victim died at the hand of another.
      Murder means that the perpetrator deliberately intended to kill the victim, and not because of circumstances that would cause the perpetrator to believe they are in danger from the potential actions of the victim.
      Justifiable homicide is what happens when the victim is killed in self-defense.

If we are true nationalist, we would want a fair process, because that's the best for us as people. Is our court system corrupted - yes. Can you put pressure on it, especially if you are a highly ranked deputy/official or man of power - yes, no doubt.
    I, personally, find this case fishy because Jock allegedly has stabbed other people in Australia, I never ever carried a knife for self protection before and after 30 years living in Bulgaria I never had a knife pulled out on me. Jock claims he had a knife pulled on him 6 times for the short period of being in Bulgaria. HOWEVER, the missing CCTV footage due to "freak blackout", the "contempt murder" as if he planned to kill that specific person, the change of witnesses testimony, they never asked Jock's company about their take on the events... It's as fishy as it gets. I really don't get why me as a nationalist, I need to twist the truth and put an innocent guy to jail to prove the love for my country. The fuck is this. My personal take, tbh, is that Jock was looking for trouble and he got in one. Now whether he wanted to kill that boy - I don't know, but sentencing him in jail for 20 years after all the missing information, changed testimonies and lack of evidence, yeah - it definitely doesn't seem right.

      "If you are so concerned for your safety in a particular area where you feel you need to arm yourself with a knife, shouldn't you choose to vacation somewhere else?"
      ...this just shows how sincere he was as for the reason to carry that weapon. He was out there looking for any excuse to brandish his knife and probably saw the situation as a jackpot that called for trying it into real people. The guy sniffed the opportunity to prove his bravado in combat and could not resist.

    • @Radii_DC
      @Radii_DC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have survived for more than 30 years in it and that's not because I've been carrying a knife all the while.
      As for thugs, if you're actively looking for that, you will find it, but if you count the violent murders per capita, you might discover that Bulgaria is no more "unsafe" than USA, for example.
      The "no prior history of violence" attitude though was contradicted here on YT by someone who knew him personally. That person said that Paulfreeman had one previous knife incident where he stabbed/slashed another guy, but he didn't killed him and it was all swept under the carpet.
      So yeah, I might be an imbecille, but the country is generally safe (if you're not testing its safety limits) and most certainly yes, even a guy "with no prior history of violence as far as INTERPOL is concerned", who was brought with a silver spoon, can go asking for a fight. He literally jumped from his seat in a nearby restaurant to go argue with a throng of hooligans who were in the middle of beating somebody else up, instead of calling the police. This in Bulgarian is called саморазправа (a crime by itself), in his case with a deadly weapon and a fatal outcome. Note that his crime does not acquit the hooligans from responsibility for their attack on some other not as of yet publicly identified people. All of this "knife saved him lest he'd be dead in that $hithole" nonsense, however, is nothing more than one big pile of stinking manure.
      If only I could imagine myself carrying a knife "for self-defense" while I was living in USA... What a shame.
      PS: It is ironic how you whine about thugs in Bulgaria while defending an Australian one on the Internet.

    Who said prisons in Bulgaria are hell? People, please educate yourselves before talking. As I mentioned before, our prisons are like walk in the park compared to Brazilian prisons or even Venezuelan ones. Also Mexican prisons. In our prisons the worst that could happen to an inmate is to get raped with baton. In the others I mentioned... you know what... Try googling "brazil prison riots". The ammout of violence among inmates there is unspeakable. Make a good research about it then talk again.
    And if you think that only riots make inmates go crazy let me tell that its normal there to torture others. Dismember them while still alive, cut heads, limbs or carve their hearts out.

    This is a one sided story. That night Jock and his friend was drunk they collided with a group of 5 friends including dead law student. Local boys was arguing with foreign tourists one of which carried a knife. Local student tell them to go away and tourists took them as a racist comment and jock used his knife to stab not one but two of the young local boys. One of the died. There was no gypsy beaten by group of 20/25 boys! its all made up story in an attempt of saving jock from prison. Gypsy story brought up because it was easy cause all of the Bulgarian hate Gypsy's. 20 people come out from a subway and happened to found a gypsy outside metro station and stated beating him...a lot of shit!!!
    Yes Bulgaria is a country where you can manipulate law and order and justice system and Jock family would have successfully do that but they could not do that because victim was a law student and from a reputable family and people took it seriously and it was not easy to grave the case with use of any power, money, non profit organisation lobbying .

      Even with a knife most people would not confront 5 men with just a women as back up plus they had 13 people say that there was someone getting smashed in the street. How do you explain the camera footage missing and the 13 witnesses all of a sudden not showing up for court>? How do you explain the so called 5 men involved admitting to being with 12 to 15 friends and then all of a sudden the number is shrunk to just 5>? Plus each of the so called 5 men changed the stories given 3 times and was allowed to do so and the old statements they gave were destroyed so it could not be used against them. You are correct about one thing and it is a one sided story about a man who was jumped and killed someone and then got swallowed by a corrupt system trying to make an example out of him.

    I am Bulgarian and I made an research on my own about this accident, which is unpleasant for both sides. Yes, there are few circumstances that I guess that can be used against Jock, such as he is heaving a knife and he was intoxicated. However this video is one of the proof for me that he is Innocent. The female blond lawyer body language is heavily indicating insecurity of what she is saying or being told to say and also, she cant even look the journalist in the eyes and giving her attitude for no reason. Second things I noticed is the father of the victim. In such accident on the news the family of the victims are usually really motivated to talk with all journalist, so they can say their point of view, which will give more attention to the community and will put some pressure over the other side. You may notice how arrogant is this man. I am 30y old and I know how this football gangs attack ppl for no fucking reason. I have been attacked by football gangs twice in my life and from what I see on the video, the people on the protest are part of those gangs. He is innocent, Mark my words!

    In the Heat of the Moment anything can happen all are guilty of being drunk anyone could have gotten hurt this killing didn't take place on Library reading books Or having a coffee in coffee shop I'll find him not guilty just because of that. Even if they were innocent because being drunk indicates nobody is innocent you can't prove him being guilty next time be sober go read a book or have coffee

      He's already out and probability back in Australia, away from this nightmare. The guy was doing the right thing. Those bastards that attacked him are the ones who deserve to be in jail, and no - Jock won't stay in jail but sadly, that guy Andrey Monov surely will stay in his grave for good.

      inbreeds you mean? you must be very illiterate as Bulgaria actually has decents of many different blood lines due to wars over time. I love Bulgaria and the people are beautiful, the food is amazing. its overall an intriguing culture, I would hate to be as close minded as yourself Jay Lay.
      Personally I think this guy in the video should get more than 20 years as he did take a life and he was prepared to do so.
