I also use the Beatstep Pro and had the USB connector fall off completely, so i wired the USB lead directly to the board and now have no problems with it being loose or not working. I have a video of how to do the USB fix on my channel. I too like analogue sequencers for the hand on tweaking. I have the Korg SQ1 and the Doepfer Darktime as well as the Beatstep Pro and will have the Keystep when its released. However, I also use Numerology from five12.com, that runs on a MAC and does everything that any hardware sequencer can do and so much more. It can also be controlled with a Novation Launchpad and midi CC for hands on control but its automation features are huge and with the expert sleepers plugin and a Motu Ultralite with the DC coupled outputs can then control a modular directly. I use this as the hub of all the sequencing control and drive the other sequencers with it. I wish i could find a hardware sequencer that could do half to things that Numerology could do but the nearest I can see is the Moon Modular 569 with all its accessories but that would about 2x the price of the MAC, Numerology and the Ultralite combined and then not be able to control all the midi synths. Love the videos you guys do, I thought i was getting a lot of gear but you must have 5x what i have :-)
+paulshillitomusic Hello Paul, thanks for watching and commenting. It’s highly appreciated! 1. I have just checked out your channel. I am posting your video on how to fix the USB connector on the BeatStep Pro in this comment. I think it’s very valuable to every BeatStep Pro owner. th-cam.com/video/EN3Ae-ktmjA/w-d-xo.html 2. I have never heard of Numerology before and I have just checked their website. Yes, your setup seems to be very versatile and “cost effective”. Moreover I think it’s just perfect for the classic music interpretations you are performing with your Synths. Thanks again for watching and subscribing. Cheers Ralph
You pointed out some features of the Beat-step Pro that I hadn’t picked up before. I learned synthesis with a Buchla 100 (3 sequencers) and have always missed those knobs, for inspiration. But, being able to save the sequence after you’ve found “it” sounds very appealing.
Hello Ralph, very interesting video. Thank you! I'm using the little Korg SQ-1 for sequencing my old Roland System 100. But I would like to know if the SOUND or any other characteristic of the sequence change between one or another sequencer or not.
+Roberto Marconi Hello Roberto, thank you very much for watching! Different sequencers have their own unique ways of control and operation, therefore they have an impact on the music and thus on the Sound as well. Of course you can exactly replicate a sequence on various sequencers and just let it play with the same sound settings on the connected Synth. But how you interact with the sequencer and the connected synthesizer makes the real difference! That's where an analogue sequencer really shines; all the controls and changes are fluid and transfer to the synthesizer according to your patching. Even a limitation on one particular sequencer might be used as a source of musical creativity. (Kindly watch our video on patching a modular synthesizer in an unconventional way th-cam.com/video/3CuVtGjPJf0/w-d-xo.html ) I hope my answer clarify things bit, as there is never a one button solution to sound and music creation. Best regards, Ralph
+Computing.Sound Hello Computing.Sound, thank you very much for watching and your kind feedback. Bernd-Michael Land and me are about to shoot a new Q&A video. We will address your question in this forthcoming Videoblog. Thanks again and best regards, Ralph
I use a magnetic cable... It stops the connector from breaking. Even though it might stop the power when bent too much.. it keeps the machine in one piece..
+Jesse Hibert Hello Jesse, thanks for watching the video and your question! I will put it on the list for our next Q&A video. As far as I know the Roland sp-404 is a sampler and you can "sequence" the sound samples that you have recored with that device. It has a Midi port as well, but how to connect it to an analog Synths via Midi is a question for Bernie in the Q&A! Thanks again and best regards, Ralph
Although I own mostly digital for simple ease of use... I love the way analog gear feels, responds and takes on a life of its own (call it charm) over age.
Thank you very much for watching! I totally agree with your point. Although old vintage gear can be somewhat unpredictable at times, that’s exactly what makes these old Synths and Sequencers so charming ;-) Greetings, Ralph
Another great video, Ralph. Very enlightening. I have a simple sequencer in my Arturia Microbrute but am thinking about getting something more comprehensive. Perhaps the Beatstep Pro would be the way to go.
+Two-Dog James Hello Stephen, Bernie is very happy now with the Beatstep Pro, although I took him some time to get it up and running. He complains about the fact that it only includes an English manual. But that shouldn't be a problem for you ;-) He was using the Beatstep for the first time at a Live Performance last weekend. Everything was going smoothly. No glitches!
+DJ Baby J Hello DJ Baby J, Thank you very much for watching and subscribing! I am aware of the fact that the bilingual approach is a compromise. Bernie wants to speak German, yet I want to make the Vlog available to a wider audience. Running a TH-cam channel with regular updates takes a lot of work. Translation and adding subtitles would increase production time. I rather do more Vlogs. But I hope Bernie and me get better as we go. Thanks again for subscribing! Cheers Ralph PS: I will jump over to your channel now and have a look :-)
Hello Amir, thanks for stopping by! The Arturia Beatstep Pro is controlling the Mini-Sound-Lab Synthesizer. The Audio signal from the Synthesizer is going into the RE-20 Space Echo. Hope that answers your question. Greetings Ralph
The analog would have been out of my scope, but I have the SQD-1, q-80, and trigger finger pro, Does the qy-10 count : ) The backdrop is so enticing in this shoot
Dear Ralph and Bernd : ) I have a simple setup that is MIDI with some patch on the microbrute. I have a M-audio beat step pro with sequencer, but I want to add the little beatstep or the korg. Any idea which might be more versatile for midi as secondary seq,. Say different transmit channels ? the korg can be 2x8
Hi Andrew, I am unable to help you on this one, as I do not own a Beatstep Pro. Bernie has sold his one as well, as the Beatstep is not as intuitive as it seems to be at first sight (our personal opinion). Cheers, Ralph
Beatstep Pro is v good, leaps and bounds above the original Beatstep, some folks complain that 64 steps and the non ability to auto chain sequences into a full song is a problem but those people have missed the point, what they want is a DAW and there are plenty of those, the whole point of these types of hardware sequencer is some limitation as it forces you to compose ideas in a certain way
Hello Noiselab Proejct, thank you very much for watching! I totally agree with you! Limitation of hardware can spark creativity !!! Thanks again for stopping by! Greetings Ralph
In my personal opinion that's also due to the fact that analog sequencers are never 100% accurate which translates into some kind of organic groove....Cheers, Ralph

That room! Dope Vlog homie and instead add subtitles after. But still dope. You got a new subscriber. 👍

hi, can you tell me where the RE20 is put on the line conecction? after or before the arturia? dont understand. thanks

+Gary Weaver Analogue step sequencers are fun in the studio and for jam experiments, but when performing Live they can be quite “annoying” ;-)
I can't do too many things at once, as it is ! ha
+Gary Weaver Doing one thing at the time is the best approach anyway ;-)

Oh, I don't need to be tied to USB, so the Korg may have to do. They say the beatstep can run off a USB charger, but I don't know if I like that

Hi... I realized that the new firmware update of Arturia's Beatstep Pro, has the posibility to auto chain sequences, and even an arpeggiator!!! :D
Great video! Subbed.
Thank you very much for your support. Glad you found my channel. Greetings, Ralph
"sofortige sogenannte", Entschschuldigen Sie den Typfehler!
No worries! Everything cool! ;-) Appreciate the effort!
But Mr Simpson... We come from ze land of electronic music!
LOL. we sure do ;-)
Analog sequencers have a warmth that digital just cannot replicate. 😬
In my personal opinion that's also due to the fact that analog sequencers are never 100% accurate which translates into some kind of organic groove....Cheers, Ralph
I dare everyone to name every thing that you can see in the studio.
Hello Moises, many thanks for stopping by! Well, naming all the music gear in the studio might be quite some task ;-) Greetings Ralph
"It has three sequencers and a drumsequencer" Nein, it doesn't have that.
