He's just trying to be funny or edgy but in a weird obnoxious way. For what it's worth he stole Uma Thurman's overdose scene in Pulp Fiction from Miss Kubalik's suicide attempt scene in The Apartment.
That movie is a bleak commentary on capitalism, and broken narcissists who treat themselves and others as commodities. In the end, the protagonist settles for the office skank who sexed up the boss in the protagonist’s bed. He needs to be loved, so he projects that she loves him when it is clear that she is less than happy with having to settle for a man of lower status.
Double Indemnity. Just because it’s legendary doesn’t mean it’s not a great American movie. One of the best. Also SB, Ace In The Hole and Sabrina. He also co-wrote Ninotchka.
Sunset boulevard is my favorite from wilder it's hard to pick a top 3 films like sunset boulevard, double indemnity, the apartment, some like it hot, witness for the prosecution are A+ movies, also did stalag 17, sabrina, the lost weekend, seven year itch, ace in the hole
Wilder had stories and thought, Tarantino is borrowed pastiche made manifest. A yobbish view and a spliced retelling of cinema. Wilder is brilliant, Tarantino pretending to understand him is hilarious.
Tarantino is fundamentally a writer who directed his own scripts thus he has a clear attitude on the primary of the Writer/ Director in films. He doesn't seem too enamored of Wilder. He seems to regard him as a better writer than director.
He is a better writer than director imo. Aside from The Apartment, where some brilliant shots actually did come together with a smooth-as-butter narrative, the tones of his movies are a bit inconsistent and they often feel a bit clunky. Mind you, Tarantino has his own hang-ups and, talented though he himself is, his fetishising of violence is a greater sin than any hiccup Wilder ever had
Tarantino doesn't write storylines he just write yappy obnoxious dialogue. His only film with even a resemblance of depth and character development, Jackie Brown, is the only one he didn't write himself (Elmore Leonard did). Just because you write doesn't make you great at it.
@okyouknowwhatever Tarantino writes plot points and storyline. Apparently you haven't seen Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction or Inglorious Bastard ...I could go o . You can't simply write dialogue with no movement or development in a movie. Even a movie about conversation like My Dinner With Andre moves from one point to another. And Tarantino wrote the film.adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel Rum Punch not Leonard. In fact, he made numerous changes. You have no idea what you are talking about
@@writeralbertlanier3434 I've seen RD it's a nice enough film (Tim Roth is excellent) but it's still a pretty flat Hong Kong ripoff, and Pulp Fiction is pretty good as well (despite QT inserting himself towards the end with a boring dialogue that makes the film unnecessarily long).
Wilder was a better writer than director. I think he was lucky to work in a time where you were limited with what you could do with the camera. Sunset BLVD, the underwater pool shot, that was just too gimmicky for Wilder, I think someone else must have had that idea.
Yeah. You don't end up Sunset Blvd, Stalag 17, Witness for the Prosecution, Some Like it Hot, The Apartment, Double Indemnity, etc... if you're not a top tier director. That's a murderer's row of movies.@@MothGirl007
Quentin Tarantino interviews Quentin Tarantino on Billy Wilder.
This guy is so silly double indemnity, sunset Boulevard, some like it hot and the apartment all written and directed by Billy and amazing!
Also Stalag 17, Sabrina, Ace in the Hole, Witness for the Prosecution, etc... He's one of the greatest writer/directors of any generation.

The Apartment is the best rom com ever.
I've never seen such a perfect balance between comedy and drama. Somehow it makes me think of Mozart.
It definitely is!

Agreed.
Sleepless in Seattle a close second
Double Indemnity. Just because it’s legendary doesn’t mean it’s not a great American movie. One of the best. Also SB, Ace In The Hole and Sabrina. He also co-wrote Ninotchka.
Also, Ball of Fire
Witness for the prosecution is my fav BW movie. But he has so many greats!
Many indeed.
It’s so great
Glad there’s people mentioning these particular films ❤️❤️❤️

Of course Quentin goes for the deepest Billy cuts
Billy Wilder>>>>> Quentin Tarantino
Billy Wilder is better than everyone.
@@aet5807 It's not hard to be better than Tarantino though. Tons and tons and tons of filmmakers are.
I like how people say this under every QT video as if he would even claim otherwise lmao.
As a writer? Yes. As a director? No.
@@okyouknowwhateveryou’re doing a bit much. If it’s that easy, you make a better movie than him.
Billy Wilder has 2 films that are in my top ten English language films. Quentin has 1 film in my top 50: Pulp.
Stalag 17, baby.
I love Avanti!
I think Wilder is the most talented screenwriter ever. Name someone better
I can only think of one. I know he’s controversial, but it’s Charlie Kaufman for me.
Paddy Chayefsky.

But you, director of 0 movies, gets its.
Movies don't need to make a point ☝️ fuckinn entertain the idea💡
Love your channel, but I would love to see you feature more commentary from women! Keep it up 👍

Doubt either Hichcock nor Wilder would bother talking about him.
One, Two, Three
Billy Wilder was superior to Tarantino
Not according to Tarantino

Quiz time!…..Name a movie Tarantino has never seen. That's tougher than you think.
He's never watched 'The Sound of Music'.
If only Quentin Tarantino would open up and share his opinions 🙄
