I just got my Rampage cabinet this past Friday and i absolutely love it! It took about 40 minutes to assemble with just one Phillips head screwdriver. Very easy. I’m glad units that it takes a couple seconds to warm up when u turn it on. I too panicked when nothing came on the screen. I did get a little chip on the side edge of my cabinet. However, no dead pixels or any other issues. Sound is great! Pretty loud on high settings. Low sound setting is what I play on. Controls are amazing! Nice crisp “clickity clack” sounds and responsive. Can’t be duplicated on the console. As for the games, although Rampage is the best one graphically, it’s the least entertaining game IMO. I love Defender! It’s one of my favorite games since I was a kid. You can not duplicate the gameplay on a console. One disappointment is Gauntlet. I thought we could play 3 players on it cuz there are 3 controllers on the panel. Unfortunately Gauntlet is only 2 players. Rampage is the only 3 player game on there. Other than this, I’m very satisfied with this cabinet. I do plan on getting another one. 👍
sup! I have bought already one of those, rampage to be exactly ,when I turn it on... nothing hapoens.... (its not a brand new machine) but what could be? should I fix it?
I also just received one of these machines and had the same problem with dust between the glass and LCD. I was able to remove the 4 screws from the front of the glass and separate it from the screen, allowing me to remove the dust pretty easy. Also, I feel like the joysticks are a bit "loose". They click well enough, but I just wish they were a tad stiffer.
Did yours come with a deck protector? I just bought mine and was told it was the latest model. Newer models came with deck protectors, including the Galaga I just bought.

I'm picking up this machine as soon as it appears in the stores. I love multiplayer games, and sure it'll be crowded shoulder to shoulder, but I am sure it will be a hit when the guys come over for my next poker night. I actually owned a Joust machine back in the 90's, but it got damaged almost immediately and I was never able to repair it. I am stoked at this selection of games, I like all of them, and fondly remember playing all of them with friends in the arcade.
I don’t know why everyone is complaining, my SF2 cabinet has no scratches and the wood is very good quality. As for complaints, there was one speck of dust underneath the screen, but I don’t see it while playing so it doesn’t bother me. No dead pixels at all either. My guess is that the problematic machines were the ones from the first couple batches.
Does the cabinet being so short make it difficult to play? Obviously you're not standing up to play that, but do you find yourself hunched over sitting in front of it? I've actually been considering building a bar-top mame cabinet (I'd prefer a full size, but I just don't have that kind of space available) but something like this might be a decent middle ground.
Adam Baranek yes and no the controls are pretty low and i played on my knees just uncomfortable and with a stool my knees are in the way i ordered the riser which im sure qill make it way better i lifted it one foot of the ground amd its way better
1:09 Iv'e done the furnature and I always have exrta parts or screws left over and sometimes I put one side on the wrong side and have to break it down just to flipp it to the right side,, So I wonder how easy this is ?
Now let's hope they eventually make an arcade vector graphic edition with the classic Atari star wars arcade / empire strikes back along with a Yoke controller. OK Yeah i know it won't happen but its fun to dream about it !!!
cool grandpa I've been dreaming about this all my life ! I would be willing to pay extra $$ for it if they make one because there is no way to play those games the way they we're meant to be played, with a yoke controller. You can play them on mame with the mouse or a joystick but nothing comes close to a yoke.
I was thinking the same thing man. One of the greatest retro arcade games ever made was Star Wars. Saw they are selling one of the original sit down arcade models on ebay for 8000 bucks
james kirk, except building an arcade of your own is a lot easier than building a car. You need less tools, time, and money. Plus there are plenty of TH-cam videos showing you how to make an arcade from a raspberry pi. Just search for videos by ETA Prime and you’ll be an arcade guru in no time.
Nice review man. Shame about the dead pixel, dust, and scratch/dings. Hopefully they're willing to work with you on it. What about comfort in playing? Do you set it up much higher to be able to stand at it, or on a tabletop and/or sit down? I feel like I'd have issues finding the best place to put it for the most comfortable play session.
I suggest you contact Arcade 1UP, they have been super nice about replacing defective parts like your screen. If that's a scuff on the screen, they need to replace it. If its a smudge you can wipe it off by taking the front glass off. Thanks for making this video.
Good luck getting a replacement screen for just 1 dead pixel. I worked with Geek Squad for 6 years and the rule of thumb was 3 or more dead pixels in the same area to justify replacement. Over time a lot of dead pixels will vanish due to various flashes/colors on the screen. The tv in my bedroom had 2 dead pixels but after 3 months of use they have disappeared, thank goodness.
If you could answer any of these questions it would be much appreciated; 1. Does it save high scores when you switch games/turn the machine off?? 2. Have you tried to play that thing with 3 people? If so, is it cramped?
Stephen for me 1) unfortunately high scores are not saved when you turn it off or switch games. 😕. That’s a bummer. 2) it wasn’t cramped playing Rampage with my 10 year old nephew and 6 year old niece. They were standing. However, I think 3 sitting adults would definitely be cramped. Also, you can’t play Gauntlet with 3 players which is unfortunate. Other than this, I like the cabinet.
High scores can be saved on some of the games if you rank in the top 3. You have to exit to the menu before you turn it off though for some reason. I set the high score on my Centipede and its still there from 4 days ago.
I'm trying to find out if Rampage has background music while you're playing the game. I just got one and mine does not. Can't tell from this video. Can anyone tell me for sure before I call the manufacturer?

I can understand how some might complain about the minor scratches and flaws these might incure through mass production and shipping but my memories of these were probably different than others here.... I remember going into the dark lit ... Smoke filled bowling alleys and playing games that had cigarette burns... Scratches from quarters being lined up on th glass screen and half th cab scared or marred from ppl getting pissed loosing their last life in th game...but thats just me... Im sure others will dissagree but to each his own.
Are you kidding? I can't find even one video of two people trying to play street fighter! I think arcade1up is passing these out for reviews on the condition that no one shows 2 or 3 adults trying to play the damn thing side by side!

Actually, being arcade machines, new, are over $3K, so for $400, well, there will be sacrifices, unfortunately. Like you said, some are just dumb oversights, but overall build quality is what you'd expect, from what I've been reading (contemplating on one).

Uu coild go to home depo and get the same wood panels for less than 30 dollars wit screws and put one together wit a pc monitor a pc box..load with alot of classic games.. My laptop only has.. All the ninteno classics.. Sega..classics.. 64 games.. And a good few of arcade games ..pacman.. Paperboy.. Gautlet.. Joust.... Centapide... Rampage... Amd the others in these cabinets.. One of my joy sticks dont work , the sound timing is off I have something weird on screen and the other joystick has bad threads on it so I cant get the ball on all the way
I couldn't resist this one. No its not the actual ones but whoa $4000 not my range. The company heard is great on sending replacement parts. This puppie yes undersized from the real deal but great seated position, have risers those wishing stand-up play. For the price find it super fun. Yes am bummed out on the scattered position buttons and stick for Defender, but still enjoy it here. I did order a bar top size machine with thousand arcade games, agree sad these don't offer more game play. Unfortunately are mono not original stereo, but some have mods to correct. No top doesnt light as an original, but keeping cost factors down. Tell ya what tho, 3/4 size play is a treat! These do go on sale mine $299, but heard $250 or less specials as black Friday!
pre-ordered the SF2 cab; however, I'm still on the fence of cancelling my pre-order as I'm not sure the quality is there as several others have pointed out. Have to wait and see how these things hold up over time.
I have a 27inch model recroom and I love it. These are a waste of money. I understand not everyone can't afford it but I rather save up money and buy a superior model.
Rec Room is great. Really any seller that can send you a cabinet kit. Then just throw in an old monitor, and an old PC imaged with Hyper Spin and you’ve got yourself a very nice arcade cabinet with a huge game selection.
i am a huge defender player, but i cant see my way into buying this as the control buttons are poorly placed to play defender. now if you can modify the player 1 2 3 into thrust, fire and smart bomb. then you may have something there. since there are 2 buttons near the left joystick you can actually make one into hyperspace and i think that would be so much faster access then the original console, but i would not be sure if that is a good idea as there maybe a accidental press of hyperspace during game play.
Mine has not worked since the day I got it. Already replaced the board once. Also the speaker. Going to have to do it again. I would set the thing on fire if I didn't invest the money already.
It looks like there is a second dead pixel to me to the left of the other you point out. I noticed it first before you pointed to the other. It is next to the mountain straight to the left of your finger at 8:13-8:15 and stays there in the same place when on the next screen at 8:17-8:20 between ESS and the shoulder of the body graphic. I'd call service to report it just to be safe. My nephew just bought the same Rampage cabinet that I am going to check out in person. I passed initially due to the game selection as the ones that I would want are mixed between different cabinets...
Not to be picky, but that's not really a dead pixel. It's a "stuck on" pixel. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it really bothers you, you can use a very fine tip black marker and dot the pixel. That should dim it enough that it won't be noticed. Or use a safety pin with a tiny amount of black paint, and dot the pixel.
If I paid 300 dollars and this had a always on pixel or whatever its called I would call them up and have them replace the screen. This thing is not cheap. Their customer support phone service has been good according to people who have called them up.
@@timmyburden5701 . Agreed. It's not cheap but it's not expensive either. I have no idea what their costs are to produce one of these. I'm guessing maybe $150 per unit if you include materials, labour, boxing, shipping to retailers, licenses, rent, and all costs involved ? Then they have to mark it up to make a profit, then the retailer has to mark it up to also make a profit. To keep costs down, these monitors (and all other parts) are probably bottom of the line quality. I remember when flat screen monitors were first introduced, it was very common to have a few bad pixels. The warranty back then stated you had to have at least seven bad pixels before the monitor would be replaced. A few higher quality and more expensive monitors guaranteed "no bad pixels". Now I think all manufacturer's will replace a monitor with a bad pixels. I had a monitor with a stuck on pixel. I wasn't happy, but to be honest, in everyday use I almost never noticed it. Only on a pure black screen I could sometimes see it. Anyway, my only point was that it might be more trouble than what it's worth to swap out the monitor. This isn't a $4,000 unit. It's a $300 toy. But that's just my 2 cents.
@@truhunk1 from what I have heard online always on pixels appear to be an issue with these units. They are probably very cheap panels. In truth I expected some issues to come up.
I play arcade games everyday on a MAME cab and on real hardware. Im noticing a delay in the sound especially on joust. Hopefully it’s just your video and audio in your recording are out of sync but if it’s actually like this in the game that’s terrible and it would drive me insane.
I received mine Friday. The build was easy. Minor scratch or smudge on screen cover. Defender sucks.....the button arrangement makes it difficult to play at all. Quality of cabinet rating =5/10. Afte playing Gauntlet for 12 minutes or so...lots of pops and cracks in sound. For 299. I dont think you can expect much. Total score= 6/10. It is what it is.
Nice review. I would like to buy one. I'd definatlybwant to replace the artwork though with defender logos, or even joust, or gauntlet. Rampage is probably my least favorite game and does not match the other retro titles. It seems like robotron, tron, smash tv, gauntlet ii, or stargate would be more fitting. Or even toki. Who knows what will come out next. I already bought two machines. Yes the 3 players thing makes no sense for rampage only, but I do see lots of people using this to convert to other arcades. I definatly will add this to my collection when it's on sale. Thanks!

have dead pixel (or always green pixel) on my cab too. And one screw on the control panel wont screw in, just sinks. and I cant screw on 2 of the joystick balls (too tight). Asteroids is great, this rampage cab is pretty bad quality.
@@halfadozen6 Ummm...nice try, but I grew up in the arcade in the '80s and '90s. Still doesn't take away the fact that the button placement is stupid on the machine.
Assembly is near easy. I took abit as all thumbs. Only Phillips Screwdriver required. Hardware is all individual wrapped and labeled. As well as the boards. Infact was about the most detailed kit I've assembled todate, excellent here. Loads of videos covering pros and cons as several types offered. May or may not be for each individual, check the info readily available. Some are going to like it, others Not! Do the research, even a few hundred, is abit of investment!
THe scrathc is probably just a piece of dirt or hair or something between the lcd screen and the plexi covering it - you can remove the plexi with just a few screws and then clean the screen and backside of the plexi and it might go away. See 3:05 on this video ( th-cam.com/video/nu8cQ91p_fs/w-d-xo.html ) to see it removed (she had a bunch of dirt specs on the screen that sshe was able to remove as well ! )

$400 Canadian is way over priced. Mono sound being condensed from a stereo output, I've heard that Gauntlet after 30 is bugged and I've seen way too many reviews about damages. Passing until this thing is $200 bucks. A 17' monitor, an emulator and 4 roms with painted particle board isn't worth 400 bucks.

Kinda cool, but a bit too small for my liking and the game selection is rather poor. I would like it to play at least like 100 games. I would take the $300 and buy a Pandoras box 6 instead.
Definitely a cool item. I would want one solely as a collection. But i dislike the fact it costs $300. If I’m going to even remotely consider buying for that price i want more than 5 games. If anything I’d pay like $70-80.
I know, right? Those complaining that this costs $299 do not seem to understand simple economics. Especially considering these are sold at retail, not direct, so the profit margins are even slimmer for the manufacturer.
Too small, too expensive for what it offers just 3 to 4 games for $300. Since is way too small would prefer a bartop model and a couple of more games on each. I'm a 6'6 man but the size looks like it was made for children more than anything. They are really interesting but for $300 could be better...

I passed on these mini cabinets because of the game selection. I was really hoping for a Mortal Kombat cab with MK1, MK2 and MK3.
They'll going to release a MK 2-4 cabinet next year.
You can always get a raspberry pi 3 with retro pie and build your own cabinet for much less than these and it would play a whole lot more.

There was dust on my Rampage screen as well I unscrewed the four screws and cleaned it off and it looks great

One of my joy sticks dont work , the sound timing is off I have something weird on screen and the other joystick has bad threads on it so I cant get the ball on all the way

I couldn't resist this one. No its not the actual ones but whoa $4000 not my range. The company heard is great on sending replacement parts. This puppie yes undersized from the real deal but great seated position, have risers those wishing stand-up play. For the price find it super fun. Yes am bummed out on the scattered position buttons and stick for Defender, but still enjoy it here. I did order a bar top size machine with thousand arcade games, agree sad these don't offer more game play. Unfortunately are mono not original stereo, but some have mods to correct. No top doesnt light as an original, but keeping cost factors down. Tell ya what tho, 3/4 size play is a treat! These do go on sale mine $299, but heard $250 or less specials as black Friday!

Build your own arcade cabinet, for the same price you can build a really good arcade machine with no issues.

pre-ordered the SF2 cab; however, I'm still on the fence of cancelling my pre-order as I'm not sure the quality is there as several others have pointed out. Have to wait and see how these things hold up over time.

I have a 27inch model recroom and I love it. These are a waste of money. I understand not everyone can't afford it but I rather save up money and buy a superior model.
Rec Room is great. Really any seller that can send you a cabinet kit. Then just throw in an old monitor, and an old PC imaged with Hyper Spin and you’ve got yourself a very nice arcade cabinet with a huge game selection.
I went with the alpha as well. Glad I cancelled the 1up preorder. I'm still going to build a riser though.
i am a huge defender player, but i cant see my way into buying this as the control buttons are poorly placed to play defender. now if you can modify the player 1 2 3 into thrust, fire and smart bomb. then you may have something there. since there are 2 buttons near the left joystick you can actually make one into hyperspace and i think that would be so much faster access then the original console, but i would not be sure if that is a good idea as there maybe a accidental press of hyperspace during game play.
Mine has not worked since the day I got it. Already replaced the board once. Also the speaker. Going to have to do it again. I would set the thing on fire if I didn't invest the money already.
It looks like there is a second dead pixel to me to the left of the other you point out. I noticed it first before you pointed to the other. It is next to the mountain straight to the left of your finger at 8:13-8:15 and stays there in the same place when on the next screen at 8:17-8:20 between ESS and the shoulder of the body graphic. I'd call service to report it just to be safe.
My nephew just bought the same Rampage cabinet that I am going to check out in person. I passed initially due to the game selection as the ones that I would want are mixed between different cabinets...
Not to be picky, but that's not really a dead pixel. It's a "stuck on" pixel. I wouldn't worry about it too much. If it really bothers you, you can use a very fine tip black marker and dot the pixel. That should dim it enough that it won't be noticed. Or use a safety pin with a tiny amount of black paint, and dot the pixel.
If I paid 300 dollars and this had a always on pixel or whatever its called I would call them up and have them replace the screen. This thing is not cheap. Their customer support phone service has been good according to people who have called them up.
@@timmyburden5701 . Agreed. It's not cheap but it's not expensive either. I have no idea what their costs are to produce one of these. I'm guessing maybe $150 per unit if you include materials, labour, boxing, shipping to retailers, licenses, rent, and all costs involved ? Then they have to mark it up to make a profit, then the retailer has to mark it up to also make a profit. To keep costs down, these monitors (and all other parts) are probably bottom of the line quality. I remember when flat screen monitors were first introduced, it was very common to have a few bad pixels. The warranty back then stated you had to have at least seven bad pixels before the monitor would be replaced. A few higher quality and more expensive monitors guaranteed "no bad pixels". Now I think all manufacturer's will replace a monitor with a bad pixels. I had a monitor with a stuck on pixel. I wasn't happy, but to be honest, in everyday use I almost never noticed it. Only on a pure black screen I could sometimes see it. Anyway, my only point was that it might be more trouble than what it's worth to swap out the monitor. This isn't a $4,000 unit. It's a $300 toy. But that's just my 2 cents.

I play arcade games everyday on a MAME cab and on real hardware. Im noticing a delay in the sound especially on joust. Hopefully it’s just your video and audio in your recording are out of sync but if it’s actually like this in the game that’s terrible and it would drive me insane.
There are some mods made to the games they r using. Only time will tell
I received mine Friday. The build was easy. Minor scratch or smudge on screen cover. Defender sucks.....the button arrangement makes it difficult to play at all. Quality of cabinet rating =5/10. Afte playing Gauntlet for 12 minutes or so...lots of pops and cracks in sound. For 299. I dont think you can expect much. Total score= 6/10. It is what it is.

Rampage is probably my least favorite game and does not match the other retro titles. It seems like robotron, tron, smash tv, gauntlet ii, or stargate would be more fitting. Or even toki. Who knows what will come out next. I already bought two machines. Yes the 3 players thing makes no sense for rampage only, but I do see lots of people using this to convert to other arcades. I definatly will add this to my collection when it's on sale. Thanks!

have dead pixel (or always green pixel) on my cab too. And one screw on the control panel wont screw in, just sinks. and I cant screw on 2 of the joystick balls (too tight). Asteroids is great, this rampage cab is pretty bad quality.
Be cheaper to build a multicast with a game elf or pandora if your planning on buying more of these.
I’m gonna wait and see if the price comes down to $150 on this one. Defender seems barely playable and the issues with Gauntlet bothers me a little

I have Centipedes. It work great. Just one problem, to switch to another game I would have to turn off the game and restart it into another game.
Assembly is near easy. I took abit as all thumbs. Only Phillips Screwdriver required. Hardware is all individual wrapped and labeled. As well as the boards. Infact was about the most detailed kit I've assembled todate, excellent here. Loads of videos covering pros and cons as several types offered. May or may not be for each individual, check the info readily available. Some are going to like it, others Not! Do the research, even a few hundred, is abit of investment!

For the cost and quality of materials this thing should have a dozen games minimum.
THe scrathc is probably just a piece of dirt or hair or something between the lcd screen and the plexi covering it - you can remove the plexi with just a few screws and then clean the screen and backside of the plexi and it might go away.
See 3:05 on this video ( th-cam.com/video/nu8cQ91p_fs/w-d-xo.html ) to see it removed (she had a bunch of dirt specs on the screen that sshe was able to remove as well ! )

$400 Canadian is way over priced. Mono sound being condensed from a stereo output, I've heard that Gauntlet after 30 is bugged and I've seen way too many reviews about damages. Passing until this thing is $200 bucks. A 17' monitor, an emulator and 4 roms with painted particle board isn't worth 400 bucks.
I just set mine up and i have dead pixels a smudge on the lcd and scratches all over the acrylic

You can clean the dust, no problem..people has done cleaned them.
You shouldn't have to clean/fix anything for the price there asking for this crap.
Kinda cool, but a bit too small for my liking and the game selection is rather poor. I would like it to play at least like 100 games. I would take the $300 and buy a Pandoras box 6 instead.

Definitely a cool item. I would want one solely as a collection. But i dislike the fact it costs $300. If I’m going to even remotely consider buying for that price i want more than 5 games. If anything I’d pay like $70-80.

I know, right? Those complaining that this costs $299 do not seem to understand simple economics. Especially considering these are sold at retail, not direct, so the profit margins are even slimmer for the manufacturer.
Too small, too expensive for what it offers just 3 to 4 games for $300. Since is way too small would prefer a bartop model and a couple of more games on each. I'm a 6'6 man but the size looks like it was made for children more than anything. They are really interesting but for $300 could be better...
