    I have a brand new 12x20 shelterlogic to assemble this week... I like the idea of taping the pipe joints. I paid $575 Canadian for the shelter, so if a few bucks of gorilla tape can extend the life of the tarp and keep it from letting go over this winter, I can handle that.

    I just assembled this exact carport. Learning from previous ports.. this time I taped all the joints that could be abrasive to the tarp. This system is great in that there is no bolts or clamps that will wear threw the tarp. The box is packed with a rubber sheet to protect the tarp from the metal parts during shipping and I cut this up to cover and tape the abrasive areas. I felt the roof area could have used 2 more joist, so I used heavy rope and went vertical and horizontal to support the snow load between the pipes. After seeing this video I'm pretty sure I'm going to cut the legs down so the tarp is on the ground and then I can add dirt the full length to hold it in place. Lord knows its tall enough. Higher than I was expecting. So far I'm impressed with it.

    Yes, I Gorilla Tape all seams, when putting these together.
    I have one it’s on its 5th Winter original tarp and I’m in Ontario Canada.
    It’s even had flying lessons and survived, also, anytime I get a pinhole or a worn down spot, I put Gorilla Tape on it.
    The only part that has been replaced is the front wall, but that’s because the zippers both broke.

    Good afternoon.
    I like it.. It seems pretty solid with all the braces on it..
    So just a dumb suggestion..
    With the gap at the bottom can you cut the legs shorter and put the feet back on?
    That is if you don’t need the height..
    It’s just a thought..
    We have the same thing here with the town laws as well..
    Thanks for sharing another adventure with us.
    Cheers

      I like the cut feet off idea. If it was just mower storage I would do that in a heart beat.

    Would it not be much easier to drive those uprights into the ground like 8 inches. Which would seal it up and be much easier to work on the ground than on crates? Or even cut the ends off till sides reached

    Poly Tarp Tape BAC Industries is what I used on the peak and corners directly applied to the cover inside that comes in contact. I went by the wear spots on the first cover that was starting to show stress. Wound up getting another cover in better unused condition, though was left outside under some trees by the previous owner, so had two spots where roots decided to grow. I also used for repairing those root hole tear like spots. Seems to work good and will see how holds up over the next few months and years. I was thinking using tape around the male pieces of conduit pipe to use for the repairing of the bent posts, since two frames I have only have bad bent post tops where the pipe diameter was swaged. Was thinking can cut foot long or maybe less length pieces to go inside the joint and post pipes. That swage transition point seems to be the weak spot on both the HF design and whatever the other is Atwood maybe?

      Looks like this and some more video do some variation of plastic covering the ground or end between pallets and wood to prevent condensation. This one titled "Eliminating The Condensation in our Shelterlogic Sheds - Developing our Homestead property is one of the video and might be more like your neck of the woods." Wild is, they even put a wood burner in one with the plastic canopy, or at least they showed using overnight with no issues as of then.

    roughly how long did it take to assemble?

  • @themaniacmower

    When you do the pallet floor are you going to set the building up on the pallets and secure it to them so it doesn't blow away as well as so the legs don't sink into the ground? Or would you just be better off leaving the legs set on the ground like that

    • @redneckcomputergeek
      @redneckcomputergeek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I run the pallet floor right up to if not around the feet.

    @RedneckComputerGeek Greetings from Wisconsin! You may have covered this in an old video but I'd love to hear the story on the sailboat in the back and maybe a tour of it! Looks like it would make a sweeeet playfort!

    Why not use bails of hay around the outside of the tent , , , cheap and easy to move if you need to , and provides some cover from the wind in the winter time ! ! !

    Instead of the bungee cords i use a good quality rope I have had a lot of problems with the bungee cords streching out and braking and i use 18" pet stakes at H-F here $3.49 each i get 8 of them i have never had one of the tent shelter move in bad weather.

    • @redneckcomputergeek
      @redneckcomputergeek  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed on the bunge cords. Good info on the Harbor freight stakes that is way cheaper then the rebar ones I make.

    • @dodgeme1986truck
      @dodgeme1986truck ปีที่แล้ว

      I go even deeper with my stakes but my property is on glacial till overlayed with blue clay... I sink 6foot metal t fence posts all the way down attaching just below the surface. I had 36inch twist stakes rip clear from the ground and they were sunk all the way to the top of the eyelet in a windstorm lost the shelter that day (76+mph straight line winds that day).

    I would like to get one of these, but because of where I live in Georgia, it would quickly be in tatters. There is zero snow load here, but this area is infested with thieves and lowlifes who would slice it open and steal whatever I stored in it.

      I feel you on this. I have a strange hole for no reason in the black one in back and think that might have been what happened.

      @@redneckcomputergeek Thats the only issue with those tents is the fact their so easy to break into compared to a wooden or brick and morter building. Their good for storing stuff you dont care about in but thats really it
