Isn’t one of the main problems with dredging that it destroys the vegetation? Where I live, the sea floors are empty bar crustaceans who thrives. All the big fish is gone (due to trawling) but bottom trawling makes sure there’s no vegetation to begin with.
Just want to say that your videos have inspired me to seek out fresh local seafood here in Connecticut! Thanks for highlighting the amazing bounty we have in the northeast and the hard-working folks who make it all happen.
You won't be disappointed! Local >>> Imported seafood in nearly all cases. Weirdly enough there are some instances in which imported is better, but it is very specific to the species and how they are handled. 9.5/10 you'll get a better experience with seafood if you buy local and buy as close to direct as you can from fishermen
Just some advice, if u cooked the scallop you sear it first like its crispy in the one side and oven it/microwave for 1-2 minutes at low temperatures , thats gonna more soft and tender not rubbery because you take a long time to tear it
I don't think I've ever had fresh scallops before. I know for a fact I've had bad ones because they smell and taste like ammonia. Love the channel. Wish I was in Boston with you guys!
So 99% of the bay scallops you see in stores is a previously frozen/treated product that is often a farmed product as well. Sea scallops are more often fresh but that is not a guarantee.
No damage?? These 'weeds' used to be ecosystems on the seafloor in which marine organisms can spawn and hide. Aquatic plants cleaning the water and providing oxygen ... Scallop fishermen are basically dinosaurs when you know how efficient and clean you can culture different species of scallops.
Horrible comparison test, everyone had a clear bias against the store scallops because they knew ahead of time. I'm sure the store ones suck but I'd do a legit blind taste test
smaller mesh = more bycatch Is bycatch really that bad in the scope of things though? Those nets are TINY even using 6 of them Theres other industries that do way way more irreparable damage to the ocean at zero benefit to the avg person
Yes sir. I live on the vineyard and definitely prefer the bay scallops over sea scallops. Maybe I’m partial(I eat a bunch while shucking raw they are amazing when still twitching)
Is it pronounced scal-up or scawl-up?
@@Tackle2thePeople scal-up
I duck pronouncing it first and let someone else stick their neck out 😉
scal-up, love these videos they are sick!
Dredging tears up the eel grass beds, the very place the scallops depend on for protection from predators
Exactly. That's one thing they will not admit.

Yes. He will not cover this issue.

I’ve read that some scallops are actually chunks of cheap white fish being sold as scallops.

Alot of the bay scallops at the grocery store are farmed over seas.

Disgusting behaviour destroying the ecosystem. As if you're promoting this. Thought better of you
Please educate me to how this is destroying the ecosystem?
Great Video, but once you've had sea scallops, bay scallops are trash.
Nope. Completely the opposite
@@colinfloyd2385 Have you had them both fresh out of the shell?
Yes sir. I live on the vineyard and definitely prefer the bay scallops over sea scallops. Maybe I’m partial(I eat a bunch while shucking raw they are amazing when still twitching)
@colinfloyd2385 sea scallops are good raw too...tho VERY INTESE, so I will concede bay scallops raw are in fact better.
boring
It's actually quite entertaining
Video sucks. Fresh bay scallops are better than farmed imports, duh. But a food review from the people who eat bat wings is just so stupid.
People who think like you are what's wrong with this world 😂
You are certainly vaccinated. Thanks for your dog shit reply.
