The most beautiful gown of all was the Blue gown worn by Princess Margaret in 1990. That gown would work in any age. Stunning.

No. You are repeating a lie that is often told in the Press because (mostly, I suppose) the young journalist don't know better.
They PRESUME, in the same way as YOU presume, that the Royal Family, like the Politicians, are funded by our tax payments.
They are not.
They are funded by the income of the vast estates owned by "The Crown" (represented currently by Elizabeth II R.)
For the last 250 years, all the money from these estates goes into the Treasury, and certain members of the Royal Family are paid out of it. About 25% annually comes back to the Royal Family and the rest goes to Govt Funds and pays for things like the NHS.
The Queen is very particular about who gets money from the Crown Estate. She insisted that her grandchildren got jobs like everyone else.
The Queen and Prince Charles are separately funded by the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall. They both pay tax on their income, and Charles supports William and Harry and their families, so they are not on the Crown Estate list.
There are only two things related to the Royals that are State funded.
1. Flights for State Visits.
2. Public Security at State and Royal functions. This means that if there is a Royal Wedding, the police who are in the streets are there for the benefit of the public, and are paid in the same way that they would be paid for policing at the London Marathon, or a major Football game.

There were some really beautiful gowns from each time period. The Queen has always shown a graceful elegance in her choices, and Princess Margaret was rather fashionable for a while. The Princess Royal has a practicality in her choices. The Queen Mother was something and she knew what suited her. I'm so glad Sophie is included, as is Zara, because they are a part of the 'firm.' Diana always showed clothes very well. Kate--let's wait and see if she comes into her own. I think too many expect her to be a 'Diana' like person, let her be herself. Meghan: she is okay and like Kate let her find her place and don't compare the two women.

But a statement like "Diana would have loved both her daughters-in-law" is pure fantasy.

I think Diana grew into her dress sense and started to take a real interest in fashion as she got older and more confident. In her younger days she was actually quite frumpy. I suppose it was all part of the job to make a grand entrance and she had access to the best designers but there's no denying she did a great job of it.

Nelly Hajj not sure who is choosing Kate’s gowns but she always looks under dressed when in the company of the other ladies, just not quite perfect. Even pregnant Megan looked great in the blue number. Megan didn’t try to hide the fact that she was having a baby and chose a simple, elegant gown.

When you say "Charles didn't know how to cope and was out of his depth", you make it sound as if it was a failure or inability on Charles' part that he COULD NOT cope.
No-one who is in a relationship with a highly self-focussed, self-justifying, self-consuming person with the can COPE in terms of satisfying that person's emotional demands.
A difficult toddler of 18 months to two years may scream and throw a tantrum every time you say "No, don't touch the electric socket. It will bang its head, spread poo-ppo on the wall, hold its breath until it goes purple in the face, and regurgitate its whole dinner because there was a tiny lump in the mashed potato.
If the child has reached 20 and has failed to grow emotionally, then it still screams every time you walk out of the room, and it throws your stuff off the ship, has your dog put down, and dismisses you valet.
AND it still self harms, AND it has not yet stopped sticking its fingers down its throat to vomit its dinner.
This toddler will sit there, at thirty five years of age, in a beautiful palace apartment... with five trips to New York a year, and a hairdresser to do its hair every day, and butler to mind its toys, and a amid to give enemas so it doesn't have to stick its fingers down its throat.....
And Baby girl, with the BIG BLUE EYES and the sweet smile will STILL be telling the reporter
"THEY (the Royal Family) don't understand that I was JUST CRYING OUT FOR ATTENTION!"
And two years later, Dodi says "If Diana does not get attention ALL THE TIME she throws her rattle out of the pram.

Neither could her Mother, her Father, her Nannies, her Step-mother, Her School, or Her Grandmother.
Neither could her Brother, or James Hewitt, or Oliver Hoare, or Hasnat Khan.
Maybe I can explain this by saying that she was tyhe UNWANTED third daughter, in the family of an Earl, whose only son had died, and NEEDED a BOY.
Mother, who was having affairs, was forced to stay around and have two more babies until FINALLY a boy arrived... and then she was free to go.
People continually refer to the Royal Family as "cold" and unfeeling. That is not the picture given by their home video.
Diana was a child whose birth was a disappointment and who complained later that she was NEVER cuddled or shown affection.
Emotionally, she was stuck at the age at which she was when she was replaced by that much needed male child.

He was used to straightforward, practical and strong women in his life, he was not prepared for someone like Diana who wanted attention all the time and didn't enjoy the traditional outdoor family pursuits. I must admit I didn't want to say too much as anyone who says anything about 'perfect' Diana tends to get shouted down! I don't see the RF as cold at all, they seem to be as close as any other family to me and are often pictured laughing together. They've simply had to be reticent when in public or their private lives would never be their own and of course they've had to accept the duty to go with the privilege. I think they've in the main found a good balance.

The oft repeated mantra is that "Diana only wanted love".
It has taken me years to really LISTEN to Diana, and her repeated statement "I was only crying out for attention."
I realise that THIS was the key to everything that she did. It was not "love" that she wanted. She WAS loved
