    I keep the Sabbath by lightning a candle and spending the entire day studying God's word. I read my bible, pray and watch youtube videos only about God or the bible to learn as much as I can on this day. I can say that the day doesn't come around fast enough and goes by very quickly. I adore the time I spend in rest communing with God and He has blessed me with personal knowledge of himself many, many times as fruits of my practice.

      I think I'm too lazy or have too short an attention span for that. I used to keep Sundays for lack of knowledge and didn't see much success with addiction until I made it a point to rest intentionally those days or to at least not waste the time. I keep a Sabbath which is in tune with the lunar cycles like the original scripture shows, and the new moon day is also important.

    David, I’ve often wondered throughout my Christian walk why most all churches today do not keep the Sabbath. The 10 commandments are very clear and simple.
    Thank you for providing a clear explanation backed with scripture supporting Saturday as the Sabbath.

    Shalom! I just found your ministry which I am enjoying. I want to ask why do you keep the seventh day of the week Shabbath on the Gregorian calendar of Friday to Saturday when it has nothing to do with the new moon?
    Shouldn’t we acknowledge the the new month as the beginning of the counting to the seventh day instead of using the solar calendar? The new moon by Scripture is important to Almighty Most High since it is He that mentions it as one of the times when All flesh will come to worship Him and the other time that His Temple door will be open for His worship. Traditions were rebuked by Messiah shouldn’t we also?🤗

      The "lunar Sabbath" is unbiblical. The seventh-day Sabbath is not dependent upon the moon. See the FAQ portion in my book, "Remember the Sabbath," for an explanation as to why the Sabbath is on the seventh day of the week (Friday sundown to Saturday sundown). I also explicitly address the "lunar Sabbath." Also see my short video "When does the Sabbath begin." Blessings!

    @ david wilber I'm surrounded by Sunday worshippers and celebrate sabbath days and other convocations solo. For the past 3 years I have tried teaching the church the absoluteness and holiness of the Saturday sabbath but even when I answer all their questions and they fail to answer mine. They never repent and discard the old leaven of sin. I did all this while keeping the sabbath and going to church on Sunday to reason with them. In the end, left and never looked back even when some " things" were said about what I am doing as me being under a curse.
    This journey of mine, to observe the holy days of our God is a solo one. My question is how do celebrate all of them when no one is with me? There are no messianic places near me.

    Great video!
    The blessing and and I believe the rational you gave for Sabbath candles are not the traditional ones, but adapted Messianic versions.
    My understanding is that the candles are to ensure a joyous room and lighting the flame after sundown would be a Sabbath desecration. This is why Sabbath candles should never ever be lit after sunset if you forgot to light them early. I've only heard the "light of the world" explanation from Messianic adaptations.
    The blessing traditionally states that God has commanded the lighting of the Sabbath candles (which is not one Messianics tend to be fond of).
    Otherwise, I like your video!

      Sometimes you cannot help that we live in "Babylon" and there may be times that an impossible choice seems to be in front of us. I don't know your specific situation, but I have had to deal with this. You can plan better and not take classes that will be on the regular Sabbath. In the case of a non-regular sabbath (i.e., Passover), you can ask to be excused from class that day. You can try to find other options. Sometimes, you just have to choose to miss out on things. I chose to miss out on a biblical language conference because it was on Sabbath and people would be working the event.
      There might not always be another option, but there usually is, even if it is hard.

    What I do not agree with is the traditions as handed down by the Jews. Those traditions are NOT written in the scriptures. So do not teach these traditions as part of the command to keep the Shabbat. Just ignore those traditions .In other words, just stick to what is written. I have enjoyed the rest of the teaching.

    • @DavidWilberBlog
      @DavidWilberBlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Eleazar. I am very clear in the video that observing traditions is not required to keep the command. Traditions can just be helpful ways to facilitate a focus on God and in sanctifying the day, which is the point. We all have traditions. Nobody believes they are “part of the command to keep the Shabbat.” But sometimes they can be helpful in sanctifying the day. Hope that helps!

      Good question. There are differing opinions on this. I would say that you should not go to a gym where others would be working on the sabbath, but going for a jog or doing other exercise for fun would probably be okay. Again, there are different opinions. My wife and daughter often ride our horses on Sabbath, which is against orthodox Jewish custom, but the horses really enjoy going out for a ride. It's not the same as "working" the horses in the riding ring.

    Question - Servants/slaves are different to contractors who we can't control. Going to a restaurant in my opinion is ok because they are not our employees. We have no control over their work choices Nehemiah is about the town/city of Israel. Of course you would not buy and sell in Israel. Israel is no more. So buying of selling in a "gentile" town that doesn't respect the sabbath is a different situation. I think context here is needed a little. My thoughts.. Jewish traditions are ok but I would be very careful entertaining this as it can lead to religious pride and sin. I have seen this a lot in messy antic communities.... Thanks for your video. Shalom.

    Good intentions... But a lot of that isn't actually scripturally based. For example, there is no such prescription for specific prayers to be recited at specific times and events. It was rabbis that commanded people to light candles on the Sabbath to assert their authority over scripture. The Bible makes no such command.
    Prayers aren't magical incantations. It's communicating with the creator of the universe... So don't recite some boring poem out of habit... Talk to him.
    Also, the concept of days starting at Erev rather than baqar...

      Hi Rose. Others have done videos on this verse. To be up front, there is disagreement of interpretation here, but the way many understand this is that it refers to the fires used to work. If it really was inclusive of all fire, then that would leave people to freeze in cold weather. The actual phrase is "burn a fire," and the other references where there is similar wording does not fit any context related to this verse. I personally leave each to his convictions about how to interpret this verse, but it seems like the fire here is to be connected to work.

    It's amusing that Christians debate over days, months, years and foods but never over adultery, murder, stealing, hating, fornication, drunkeness etc. Jesus did though said that these sorts of things defines a person.
    In Romans 14 Paul speaks about foods and days. He ain't speaking about fasting days, the sabbath day or any other holy day. But he wrote about DAYS. That's for certain. He wrote against the Galatians for their keeping regarding man made days but gave his approval to the Romans for their keeping of days. What special days did some of the Romans who've become Christians kept? In fact there was aslo Christians in Rome who didn't keep those essential days others kept and who've esteemed every day alike. And Paul said that these parties shouldn't judge each other regarding these days. So was it their own traditional days some kept? Then Paul would have been unfair, because he was against the Galatians for their keeping of man made days. Or was it God's holy days the Romans kept or was it really about fasting? We DON'T know but, what we clearly know is the fact that he wrote about DAYS. If we are still to observe Torah strictly, every day for someone can't be the same, as mentioned in Romans. In Colossians Paul never stated that, murder, fornication, adultery, hate, stealing etc, is a shadow of the things to come, but he stated that the Sabbath Days or (Resting Days) is a shadow of the things to come and that Christ is the Substance. He places the Sabbath Days or(Resting Days) under a shadow, stating that Jesus is the Reality. So if Paul forbid the Romans to not judge each other concerning days, why do we? And does it actually make sense if someone speaks to another persons' shadow rather than to the person substance? I'm not making a point saying that it's silly to observe these days, but I'm trying come to a conclusion, is it necessary to.

      What's SO bad about 'days' especially if it's a rest from work or a celebration. So should I ignore Christmas Day then? 🙃

      @@chris2vallen729 The first and eighth day of Sukkot are sabbaths. The orthodox Jewish calendar is "standardized" and some choose to follow the "Abib Barley" method which may cause the year to begin a month before or after the traditional year. That is why you see some differences.

      @David Wilber - My definition of DAY is when their is daylight. I am not saying that DAY is defined by a 24 hour period of time. There is no mention of remembering the Sabbath evening or Sabbath night in the 4th commandment.

    • @DavidWilberBlog
      @DavidWilberBlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@DeborahE7 I understand, but your narrow definition of "day" is not the complete biblical definition. You are insisting on the narrow definition when the Bible also defines "day" as including the night portion. Consider Mark 14:30-Yeshua includes the night as part of the "day." Leviticus 23:27-32 teaches that the "day" of atonement begins and ends at sundown, thus including the night portion in the definition of the day. Also consider Leviticus 15:19. This command literally doesn't make sense within your paradigm. If a day only includes the light portion, then if a woman gets her period at night, within your paradigm, she could still have relations prior to the next "day" (light) beginning. Then, after the "day" (light) ends at evening, she can again have relations until the next "day" (light). Obviously those seven days would include the night portions. We need to consider ALL the biblical data, not just pluck a verse out of context and force a narrow definition onto everything. Hope that helps!

      I'm just agreeing with the Bible, which explicitly and repeatedly refers to wine/beer as a blessing. Good things can be abused. That fact does not mean that what God calls a good thing is now a bad thing in itself. Here's my video on the topic of alcohol, FWIW: th-cam.com/video/VRAbiKoaXZk/w-d-xo.html

    Yes, remember to whom God was talking to? it was to the Israelites that came out of bondage from Egypt. Not you or me. The sabbath is a sign of the mosaic covenant made by God at Mt. Horeb with the nation of Israel to set them apart from the pagan nations especially the uncircumcision like you and me (Ephesians 2:11-12). Mat5:17-19 Jesus fulfilled all the Law of Moses including the Sabbath thus it is now done away. Christians are not commanded in the new covenant to keep the Sabbath. We are living under grace and not under the law. Apostle Paul said twice you will be cursed if you teach another gospel.

    • @brandonablack
      @brandonablack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you read your Bible carefully, you will see that keeping Sabbath was a practice before they even reached Horeb (Ex 16). also, it was instituted immediately following creation, so Adam kept it.

      Strong #4137 - plērōsai is the Greek word for fulfill. If you do a word study it means to do or complete. Right before he says he has not come to abolish the Law.
      Whenever Scripture talks about being under the law, it means under condemnation for breaking it. This is where faith leads to righteousness because Jesus took the punishment of sin or breaking the Law for us. Paul says the Law allows us to see our sin in Romans 7:9. We are no longer under the condemnation of the law. By no means is the law sinful ... We should delight in the Law of God, which provides the moral basis for our condemnation pointing us to our Savior.
      If we are to no longer sin, then the Law is our guide on how to live a life avoiding sin. This does not mean our works save us, but that our Faith = Salvation + Works.
      Hope this helps brother in Christ.
