The fatigue is real. I'm not sure about the 5% figure. I wake up tired now on 0.75. I always want to take a nap. Six months ago I was knocking out project after project. Now taking out the garbage is a project.
UPDATE: Take 1 mg weekly and don't even notice it.

I am a physician taking semaglutide currently and wanted to mention that the GLP 1 agonists stimulate vagal nerve afferents which may contribute to slower heart rate and blood pressure and calming effects which in turn may cause fatigue and sleepiness especially in people who already have low blood pressure like me. It would be helpful to check blood pressure and pulse to see if that’s a factor.

Thanks for adding that. I have lower blood pressure since starting Ozempic and I am on high blood pressure pills because I had high blood pressure before. About 100/65. I am fatigued and I just don't feel like eating. I have talked to my pharmacist and they recommended dropping one pressure pill for a week and see what happens.

This is good. Bc my blood pressure has always been kind of normal, but I notice now, when I get up from sitting or laying down I get really dizzy 😵‍💫 and it’s not a quick recovery. This only happens at home, not at work, and I’m at the front desk at a hospital. I wear compression socks to work, bc I used to be 230lbs at 5’2 and had edema in my ankles so bad I couldn’t keep my feet in my shoes, very problematic since I walk to work. So that’s how I ended up on Ozempic. Now I’m always cold and tired. Iron w/in range but on the lower side. It could be good for me to check my blood pressure more.

I don’t think it’s because you’re not eating enough. The exhaustion I got was when I took it was within 24 hours. The hunger reduction hadn’t even started for me by that point. I’m still eating as much as I want. So I really don’t think that’s it. The fatigue I feel definitely feels like I took NyQuil.

I’ve been taking Ozempic for 5 months. I felt horrible the one month I took the .1 dosage. The nausea was always lurking and I didn’t want to eat. There were days my blood sugar stayed above 180 because I felt so bad. I was also fatigued. Yeah no kidding, I wasn’t eating. I spoke to my endocrinologist and asked her to lower my dosage back to .05. I’m in my second week taking this dosage and feel much better. No more nausea and I’m not as tired because I’m eating more calories. My brain wants food again. I don’t know exactly how much weight I’ve lost because I don’t have a scale. I am down 2 dress sizes from an 18 to 14.

    • @DR-jo
      @DR-jo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@tendaroni the only time I’ve seen people fail with weightloss on keto is if : they don’t actually follow it consistently , they don’t consistently get enough calories, they rely on processed keto foods and fake sugars which often aren’t even keto.. aka they do dirty keto, they don’t eat enough fat or they don’t get enough greens (more an individual thing). I notice some women that do everything right and it’s clean keto etc, they sometimes take 2-4 weeks before starting to lose weight vs most guys it’s usually the first week. Doing a super clean keto or carnivore diet with intermittent fasting seems like the most successful especially around the 6mo to a year mark. Also hormone issues can’t slow down results so drinking dandelion root tea can help clean the liver faster and process the estrogen better (ex. Helping with pcos). Oh and people think drinking alcohol or supposed “keto” alcohol is ok even in moderation.. but your liver will process alcohol instead of fat for around 24hrs so it’s better to not drink at all or keep it for a rare cheat day.
I was bummed when I tried monk fruit, allulose, stevia I stopped losing weight. I’m not a huge fan of fat and oily foods often hurt my stomach so it was a game of trying to find what type and how much fat and when I could tolerate.. cooking with organic grass fed/pasture raised ghee (like adding it to most things I cook), eggs, more marbling in my steak, and making my own sauces with heavy whipping cream (cream of mushroom, white sauces, even some Mexican chili sauces, etc). I don’t have time to make everything from scratch everyday so I’ll often make extra and freeze it in 1-2 servings and it saves me a lot of time. I’m addicted to sugar/carbs so if I’m feening for something for at least 4-5 days , I’ll wait and only have 1 cheat day (ideally only once a month or every 2 weeks) and it helps prevent me from going completely off the wagon but I also noticed I won’t feel good the following days and majority of the time it isn’t worth it and the longer I go clean keto the less cravings I have.
People can lose weight sticking to clean keto and it seems more sustainable long term than other diets. If you hated it though you might want to try the other end of the spectrum which is something like the 80/10/10 diet by dr Douglas graham . I lost 15lbs in 40 days doing zero exercise and increased my cal to 3000+ daily but it’s fully raw, low fat, plant based and your not allowed certain things like grains, beans. There’s fb groups that help give tips etc but for me it’s not sustainable long term and requires lots of prep work to get normal like meals and tracking your vitamin/mineral uptake since it’s easy to get malnutritioned or ur just eating mono meals of straight fruit/veggies without work. Regardless of the spectrum the commonality is always Whole Foods and no processed foods.

I teach pharm to nursing students and have been so excited to see these GLP1s! It is such an exciting time in weight management! My question is -with the forced gastroparesis, do you think it could be also effecting other muscles in the body and that's why people feel fatigued?

Besides drinking lots of water and making sure I have enough calories ,
Harmless harvest or straight out of the Thai coconut , cold coconut water and taking magnesium gummies help with muscles cramps and aches.
I do a combo but I think it’s the magnesium glycinate that’s the best form for muscle aches but I couldn’t find it alone in high enough mg in a gummy , I hate taking lots of pills or powders so I’m not consistent if majority of supplements aren’t gummies or tiny capsules.
I know there’s a couple brands of higher end electrolytes powders that lots of people use for muscle aches/cramps. I haven’t tried them long term but my mom had to take them due to a cancer treatment she was doing. The packets helped a lot but sometimes she’d also do the popsicle type by like Powerade or pedialyte. She’d also get aches from low sodium so it was a juggle of finding which electrolyte she needed extra of on top of the regulars (usually it would be potassium from food(absorption rate of synthetic/pills is a joke), magnesium or sodium that she’d do in addition to the electrolyte packets)

The fatigue is real. I've been on Ozempic for a month and this last week I've been dead on my feet. It's no fun at all; I could honestly sleep standing up. I sleep 10-hrs and wake up exhausted. And it's not calorie deficit (I wish it was). At first I put it down to menopause. But this tiredness is beyond anything I have ever experienced before. I am on holiday next week and won't be taking the Ozempic. I just hope I get my usual zest back enough to enjoy myself.

I'm hoping this gets better as i don't know of too many people who could endure this. I also don't know how you can exercise feeling this way.

I’m not sure about the lack of food being the reason of the fatigue. I practiced intermittent fasting before and never felt in this way…wiped out. The contrary, actually…fasting made me feel very alert and full of energy and not sure if I am eating less now than when I was fasting. The reason I didn’t continue fasting is because is not easy to sustain it for the long run. At some point I would inevitably fall off the wagon.

I’ve been on Wegovy for 6 weeks. Down about 9 pounds - 40 more to lose as my goal. I’ve noticed that I want to nap now which is something I never do, plus I’m going to sleep earlier. I have a full time job and I’m very physically active (dance and weightlifting) and those activities are more difficult now. However, when I’m not sleepy, I actually feel more energetic than ever! It’s like a natural high and I love it. Thankfully I’ve had few side effects. I’m doing my best to eat enough protein and drink lots of water. Sadly my sugar cravings have not gone away, but the good news is news is, my body now doesn’t want a pint of ice cream…only a spoonful.

No, he is very wrong it is not the amount of food. I only just started a few days ago with no real appetite reduction and I am still eating like a pig. Pizza, cake, everything is still very seductive to me. I am tired, so tired that I could not go to to work today. I slept for more than 12hours the night before, got up to phone work to tell them that I cannot come in, eat a large amount of food and went back to sleep. Started Ozempic in June. Immediately lost 10 lbs. I plateaued until November when I went up to 1mg dose. I lost another 10 lbs after that. I feel similarly as I did when I first started, fatigue, nausea, sulfur burps, and the occasional blowout. It all depends on what I eat as well. I expect this to pass as it did when I would get about 2 weeks into moving up a dose. Ozempic can be brutal. I tell people to give themselves 3-6 months to adjust completely.

helped my new diabetes, diagnosis. A1c went from 7 to 5 in the first three months. my perceived problem was that I didn’t lose any weight. I didn’t lose any weight for almost a year and then…I started taking MCT oil and eating an avocado a day and I lost about 24 pounds in a month and a half, which was awesome. then I couldn’t find Ozempic anywhere and I didn’t the med for a month so I am getting back into it gained about 4 pounds back, which is fine but the unrelenting fatigue that I go through is crazy. I thought it was me. I didn’t know others had the issue too. I sleep 13 hours.
I can sleep between 9 and 13 hours and I’m a happy camper. I will say that I do have lack of motivation and some depression which I’ve had anxiety and depression issues before but the lack of motivation and procrastination is extremely worrisome to me

The fatigue is hell!! I’ve been on wegovy since October, lost 30lbs so far, but considering stopping because of the fatigue. It’s relentless. If I am not working, I am in the bed. No exaggeration. I work from home, which is usually about 3-4hrs of actual work a day. The remaining time, I am asleep or in bed because I can’t do anything else. This has affected my job performance and ability to manage my household. To give some perspective, I have been a chronic insomniac who has functioned comfortably on about 5hrs of sleep a day for over 20yrs. Up at 6am every day and hit the ground running. This WAS my norm. Now, I easily sleep 8-12hrs or more throughout the day and still wake up tired. I have literally spent days in bed, only making necessary trips to the rest rooms and forcing myself to eat. I’ve also experienced the nausea/vomiting on occasion, typically the first couple days after the shot. But not always. I’m about 15lbs from my goal and have 3 weeks to go before deciding if I want to do the next round of shots. Pretty sure I won’t. On the flip side, my daughter has also been on it and while she has experienced some fatigue, her’s hasn’t been as bad. She’s also not had a problem with nausea. So, every one’s experience will be different.

I am having the same extreme problem with fatigue. I am taking a class online this week and find myself literally falling asleep during the class multiple times a day. I have to take a nap on breaks and lunch. I was fine the first month of taking Wegovy. I took the .25 mg, and now I am on .5 mg. My last shot will be Friday and then I go up to the .1 mg dosage. I don't know how I am going to do it. And now I am scared to eat. Everything I eat gives me painful acid reflux symptoms that wake me up throughout the night. But, hey, I am in it to lose it. I just didn't expect the symptoms to be worse than the cure.

I've had severe fatigue for the past week on 0.25. I'm supposed to titrate up to 0.5 tonight but I'm a little scared to. I can just about drag myself out to take my son to school, can't keep up with housework and having to nap at noon everyday and lay in bed as soon as I get back in the afternoon from the school run. It's bone deep fatigue, and even though I'm sleeping 11 hours a night I don't feel any better. I haven't had a meal in 2 weeks, the mere smell of food is so bad I want to throw up, I have zero appetite and have too force the little bit of fruit I manage into me. I can just about manage an apple a day or some berries. I want to continue losing weight so part of me says it's worth it but I feel really miserable.

Hello there, I found your channel a few weeks ago and it was very easy to understand what you were saying. I started on oxampic at the beginning of May and have lost 35lbs of weight so far. Yippee....
I put on so much weight in 2011 after having a knee replacement, which I ended up getting CRPS. I have struggled with pain and nasty pain meds, fatigue and weight gain. After starting oxampic my health has changed drastically. I have more energy, my balance is better, my sleep is better (still lots of fatigue) . The biggest change it has given me is LESS PAIN, my crps isn't as painful, my skin isn't hyper sensitive, I can tolerate hot and cold much better, my teeth hurt less, I can go for a walk and clean my house. I would love to no if anyone else has found that this has helped with pain, chronic pain, the worst pain ever complex reginal pain syndrome.

Doctor told me the fatigue is because I am not getting enough nutrition. Basically, I am starving, and my body is giving out. We need nutrition for energy. I was given Ozempic for my diabetes and boy has it worked plus I have lost 32 pounds in 7 months. He wants me to eat 3 small, good meals a day because I went from 1500 calories a day to about 500. I swear I can look in the fridge and feel full. About 4 weeks ago out of nowhere I get extreme nausea and diarrhea for 3 days after taking the shot. So bad I go like 50 or 60 times a day. I did find Ginger Tea works yesterday so I am going to keep trying to eat. I just barely ate before so this is crazy. I was obese on a 1200 calories a day diet. I also have a very over active thyroid and was obese. My body is backwards.

Good question. I have not been able to counteract the fatigue in any way. I am fine each morning until I eat, which is why I wait as long as I can to eat my first meal. Then after I eat I am so tired I usually go back to bed. So now I wake up, wide awake after only 4-5 hours of sleep which probably adds to the fatigue. I have moved on from KETO to Carnivore and am looking forward to seeing if that helps.

Im on ozempic, 0,25, week 5, I was supposed to up to 0,5 last week, but was skeptical about it. Lost 15lbs in the last weeks before and in to day 4 in the first week of Ozempic, since then I have gained all back. Fatigue is really hurting me, almost can’t get trough a whole day at work, rest of the time I’m just sleeping, and the weekends are used to try to recover. And I have a much higher appetite than before, I’m constantly hungry, not like “oh a sandwich would be nice” feeling, but ravenously, like a starving wolf. Only other side effects have been a bit of flatulence and burping in the first 2-3 days after taking the injections. And I think my blood glucose have been even more stable than before. But it’s hard to stay the course, when the main reason I was getting on this was for the weight loss. See a lot of you have hade trouble with fatigue, has anybody else experienced the hunger?

I am on the first week of my second month on the 1.0 of Wegovy. I started with the .25 and then the .50. I have lost 18 pounds in 3 months. I have severe fatigue. I push myself through 2-3 30-45 minute strength straining sessions so I don't end up thinner and flabby. I also try to walk 3-5 miles 3-4 days a week. I also have severe constipation. I usually go 3-4 days before I break down and drink smooth move tea, which works. I also have the burps quite a bit. which is annoying. I think I will stay on the 1.0 for yet another month. I also try to drink lots of water and hydration powder. I plan on weaning off when I am at my goal weight. The side affects are real and you have to find ways to manage. Boy do I sleep a lot. A positive though is that I have no desire to drink alcohol, and I am losing about a pound a week now.

Yes, the fatigue is happening. 1 year on Wegovy, now at 2.4mg. My issue now is that I'm 30 pounds away from my goal weight. I have been eating 1500 calories or less for a year and the first 90 pounds came off easily. Now, not at all. I've gone down to 1000 calories and have even done 3 day fasts, and the weight is not moving at all. Eating at my BMR calories of 1700 is way more than I have been eating and 185 grams of protein seems impossible. There have been weeks where I hardly eat at all, and the weight has just stalled. Not sure what to do. And when I say plateau, I'm talking about 4 months with no weight loss at 1200 or less calories per day. I'm 64 years old, 6'1" and now at 210 lbs. BMI now at 27 down from 38; would like to get into the normal BMI range of 24.

Those with fatigue have your T3 checked. T4 was normal, T3 very low. So tired.

That's my problem too. Doc just upped my dosage. It's been 5 weeks and I'm not as tired now.

I am vegetarian and looking to get down to 120 pound (about 55 Kgs here in Aus). I'm just punching the numbers at the moment and will really struggle to take in 120gms of protein per day, even though I've cut carbs down. Eggs, tofu, cheese, nuts, legumes, protein breads. Anybody have any ideas?

Dr Dan you are the freaking best!!! I’m learning so much! What about the people who get taticardia or rapid heart beat on the GLP-1 rx? Does everyone get rapid heart beat ? Why does it happen??

I love your blunt personality! Hope you are finding your way. Smiles. Horrid fatigue & hair brushing out. Was on .5. Ate very little no appetite but eat almost all protein. Did you're math. So if i eat the 2100 calories & 210 of protein. Using 175lbs i hopefully can maintain. I definitely wasnt doing that. You are a doll! (Im old dont worry, ha)! Thoughts if you have time or see this. Smiles & hugs ... Bobbi ps. Was on 9 weeks, stopped 2 weeks ago & doc is taking about restarting me in 2 more weeks on like 12 clicks if ozempic. Your probably gaining popularity & won't have time, I fully understand. Smiles

I’m in 1.75 mg of wegovy and I have been feeling wiped out. I had some tiredness before but this is noticeable. I’m not sure this is so minor side effect as people say.

Do you know how many clicks are in 2 mg? My 1 mg is backordered but I am hoping to use 2 mg but just count clicks for 1 mg.

Dr. Dan, thank you so much for your videos! I have found them to answer so many questions, and in an entertaining way! I totally believe my fatigue is caused by not eating enough. My challenge is that after 2 months on Ozempic, I still have a difficult time eating anything, especially protein which is know is super important ( I was an elite athlete so I get it). I've tried protein powder in a smoothie, but I just can take a few sips. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!
    with many thanks,
    Kathleen

Start small and spread over the day. Ie with your protein shake, drink small sips over the course of the day vs in one sitting do this consistently. Then add more protein to a meal or snack, and continue add protein slowly. Your body will get more used to increasing amounts of protein/food. Just takes some time due to the drug.

Will our body experience too little fuel/food as famine if our brains aren’t sending signals that we’re hungry?

    • @theofficialdrdan
      @theofficialdrdan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes and your brain will always send that signal. Most people have gotten really good at ignoring it to try and consume as little as possible. That can only go for so long before you turn around and binge!
