  • The then British colony of Malaya was gradually occupied by the Japanese between 8 December 1941 and the Allied surrender at Singapore on 16 February 1942. The Japanese remained in occupation until their surrender to the Allies in 1945. The first Japanese garrison in Malaya to lay down their arms was in Penang on 2 September 1945 aboard HMS Nelson.

    I find it interesting that the Malaysian government suppresses discussion about the English occupation of Malaya and not many know about the atrocities the English committed against the native population there.

      It was one of the deals made by Tunku as part of independence deal with the English. They won't ask for compensation,in turn their civil and government workforce will stay for years to help develop the country once they able to stand on their own,it precisely during 70s their workforce began to leave the country
