Exar Kun, the Rakata, Chancellor Contispex I, Xim the Despot, Mandalorian Rally Masters...it is a good day for the Non-Canon Expert!! I hope that you all enjoy today's video as it was one of my favourites to research and put together. Thank you for watching everyone and for your incredible support as always!
I was very impressed with Solo. Ron Howard should direct another anthology film. The amount of references made Solo feel like it was an actual Star wars film.
I stumbled upon pictures from The Art of Solo a few hours ago and when I saw that Exar Kun mention, I honestly jumped off my couch in sheer excitement and joy. Dryden's study is a freaking treasure trove of references, but that one was easily my favorite. Just imagining what the canon could do with him makes my head spin; the same obviously goes for many characters that have already become part of canon and those that hopefully will find their way back in the future. I love it!
I am right there with you for sure IO! It's funny because the Official Guide says something to the effect of: Dryden stole an obsidian slab from a Sith Temple for his desk, so I was a bit let down not knowing exactly which Sith it was. Then turned to the Art of Guide, and BOOM, Exar Kun. :) I hope it came across in the video, but the connections with the obsidian and hieroglyphs are 100% spot on with the Legends Exar Kun temple so that was great to see. Crimson Dawn just got a bit more interesting to me as well. Always appreciate you taking the time to both watch and comment IO.
WHY!?! ...WHY are people boycotting THIS film?! ...punish Disney for TLJ but THIS is the kind of stuff we were all SOOOOO hoping for in the new films!!!! Seen it 3 times already and it just gets better every time
I saw the movie but the reason why people boycott it is because kk and Roundhead Rian are running Lucasfilm so the fans are voting with their wallets. Lucasfilm doesn't listen to fans but Disney bats an eye when they start losing money, hence why a boycott is necessary. These people hate the fans and with Pablo Hidalgo to quote: "Oh I'm sorry for bring Identity/Gender politics into SW NO WAIT NO IM NOT!!!" With these kind of people in charge you can't expect them to really listen to fans by how immature they are and I don't see them bringing Exar Kun onto the screen without either flopping his gender or emasculating to obscurity. I as well as all these other fans wish SW was good, but for now it is SoLow.
I get the argument, but Solo is the proof of change correction I don't get it still, I think that the original haters didn't expect Solo to be a film for fans (Its basically a book in the old EU), and most haters forgot why they were haters and only the hate is remembered but not why. I agree on the critique of the new trilogy, but Solo proves the opposite so......... Give it 10 years and then wait to criticize. I have an feeling Qira will be the new Sith for example....

You notice almost none of these when watching the film in theatres -- I had no idea what an impact these trinkets and displays could have. Great work here.
It's a bit obscure. You have to meet a Rodian smuggler in Korriban and collect something hidden in a secret compartment in the Ebon Hawk's cargo bay. After that, the Rodian places a "strange box" (actually a Rakatan Mind Prison) on the cargo bay for you to deliver to a Hutt on Tatooine. If you activate the box, your mind gets imprisoned inside the box and you need to answer the Rakatan's riddles in order to escape.

I don't know what is more confusing. The Samurai looking Mandalorian armor or the fact that theres two or three copies of Luke's second lightsaber and what looks like Vader's lightsaber sitting alongside it.
I like that Exar Kun is canon now. It would be cool if they made Exar Kun as a villain in one of the next movies. They could do Exar Kun as the villain if they do the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie for example. Since Maul already met Obi-Wan in Rebels they probably won't do Maul as the villain. But it would be cool if Obi-Wan teams of with another jedi and goes to fight Exar Kuns spirit. Or maybe use Exar Kun in a movie set before episode 1. Now I only hope Revan becomes canon too. It is great that Darth Bane became canon in Clone Wars.
Sorry I am late, but just to clarify, Exar Kun was active thousands of years before Kenobi was even born. He would be great for an old republic film, but a lot of legends fans would be very unhappy if Kun was around during the imperial era.
There was so much thought and care put into the easter eggs in this movie; I caught tons of them (teras kai, colo crawfish, the maw) on the first viewing alone and even more (mimban) in later viewings. Makes me even angrier at the "fans" who want to boycott the franchise and burn the whole thing down just because Disney didnt do a shot by shot remake of the EU material (which they had also complained about anyway when it was published). BattleDroid224 Mandalore and its People resemble the Vikings and various other Germanic people, maybe the old republic Mandos had similar Honours bound traditions and such to Japan.
TheCustomSWFigure I agree on the TV-show idea. But please for the love of everything Star Wars _don‘t male them pacifist blonde-and-blue-eyed humans_ . Mandos are such an incredibly tolerant society, they literally don’t care what species you are, what sexual orientation you have, what gender you are or what you’ve done prior to joining them (yes, one can join them, because being Mandalorian is more than being born on the planet Mandalore). Nah, Spartans were both too seclusive (meaning they didn’t take in outsiders) and too focused on fighting. Mandos are a warrior people, yes, but they cared just as much, if not more for their family. This and their tolerance for all kinds of stuff (sexual orientation and gender) points towards the vikings, who were willing to accept you as one of their own if you could prove your worth (just like the Mandos). Samurai have almost nothing in common with Mandalorians, except for them wearing armour as well. They are too much of an honour- and nation-bound fighting force to be put on the same pedestal as the Mandalorians.
TheCustomSWFigure Yeah. Even though I liked TCW‘s Death Watch (I‘m always a sucker for these awesome pieces of armour and _flamethrowers!!!!_ ), I‘d much prefer the EU Mando’ade. Learned something new today. Fans of cannon lore (like myswlf) can rejoice in knowing someone in " Solo" really did their homework. Thank the maker for that.
you know what I just thought of. Perhaps Dave Filoni brought a form of time travel into Star Wars, was to maybe introduce a plot where the entirety of history is changed from a certain set of events. Thus the "legends" excuse. Doesn't necessarily have to be produced by Dave Filoni but just leaving that option open for anyone who wants to delve into that possibility for a story.
I wonder what they'd do with Exar Kun in their new canon. He was such an awesome character in the original EU that I always thought a series of movies involving him would be amazing. But would they be respectful to the character and source material if they did?
All of this awesome EU stuff brought back into Canon is really what made the movie so great for me... It sucks that so many fans can't appreciate these little nods as much as others...
You failed to mention the lightsabers surrounding the Mandalorian armor from the visual guide book photo (not the film) and the possible lightsabers (or scrolls) surrounding the Holocron (visual guide and film)! Ancient lightsabers!!!
Solo is a movie than anyone can enjoy, really gave me the OT vibes which is what made Star Wars. People who hate it just don't understand that this is what Star Wars should be, a fun adventure film. Ironically, more love went into Solo than any of the sequel trilogy films. Heck, I'd say even more than in Rogue One.
I'm pretty sure they weren't cut. The two stormtroopers that threw Han into the cage and told the beast to kill him slower. Or so I've heard, seems right to me.
It's about time they made Exam Kun canon he was anointed a dark lord of the Sith by A procession of sith spirits He was so badass the dead had to wake up and put some respeck on his name he's one of the most underrating Sith Lords And duelist In all his time as a Sith he was undefeated in signal combat
God I hate that Solo didn't do better at the box office. The things shown in your video, the Maul reveal and the fact that it was surprisingly good makes me wish it had done well enough to get the sequel it was setting up. Imo they went out of their way to pay respect to the subject matter. I think because they knew they were under the microscope and people had questioned the necessity of a Solo movie from the start, so they put a lot of stuff in for the fans. It ended up being the movie I thought I didn't want, but ended up liking a good bit.
It would’ve been 100% badass if he had a 332nd clone trooper helmet on display next to the red mandalorian armor as a reference to the siege of mandalor
Seeing this makes me wish that Michael K. Williams had played Dryden Vos like he was originally supposed to. I have nothing against Paul Bettany, I've liked him in other films, but he just didn't have a strong enough personality as an actor to make something of what was, on paper, a pretty two-dimensional character. But put Omar Little in a Star Wars film, and spend a bit more time with him in this room to both give fans more of a chance to catch these references and give the audience a sense of why this character collects these artifacts (which reminds me of Thrawn in some ways, tho with different motivations), and that could've been a pretty strong villain for the movie. Ah well.
Man, he had Anakin's and Kenobi's lightsaber too. Amazing Btw, the armor was pretty lame because it was literally a 1:1 OYoroi, not even some changes to make it more scify, no, just a copy pasted one.
Love the channel and your content. In star wars we often see/hear that Jedi are trained to deal with forms of torture. Most specifically force lighting and mind probing. Are there any specific details on how the Jedi were trained to deal with this. Thanks in advance for your answer whether it be a video or a text response.
Xim, the freaking Despot??? oh wow, I cant believe it. thats probably one of, if not the coolest collection someone can have. Also, do you think Dryden reflected a lot with the Despot's Mast?
something tells me they're building up to some big old republic era reveal. and hey if Exar Kun can be canon I guess we may even see a Revan Movie at some point

All of this awesome EU stuff brought back into Canon is really what made the movie so great for me... It sucks that so many fans can't appreciate these little nods as much as others...
I'm hoping that we get a canon novel or comic about Exar Kun.
Tarlo The Boar I swear if they turn him into an Anakin I will lose what little faith I have in Disney
So, any plans to continue your Old Republic History?
You failed to mention the lightsabers surrounding the Mandalorian armor from the visual guide book photo (not the film) and the possible lightsabers (or scrolls) surrounding the Holocron (visual guide and film)! Ancient lightsabers!!!
Making connections.
I still feel like that Star destroyer that popped up in the Maw malestorm was Admiral Daalas flagship Chimaera.
Your channel is criminally underrated. Kind of like Solo and The Last Jedi.
Awesome video! Great job
We still love the legends!
A shame Tag and Bink were cut out.
jimmy
They were probably on the Arrestor Cruiser, part of a major scene that got cut.
I'm pretty sure they weren't cut. The two stormtroopers that threw Han into the cage and told the beast to kill him slower. Or so I've heard, seems right to me.
I love Legends and now the things I love are true.Nice to know
One could be surprised how much these references make me respect the movie more lol
Solo is a great movie, I loved it. it is too bad it is not doing well.
It's like my dream stronghold in SWTOR game.
Finally ! Some Legends lore ! Yes ! So there is hope for a Canon Old Republic era :D
lol
Very well done. I dig the new intro
It's about time they made Exam Kun canon he was anointed a dark lord of the Sith by A procession of sith spirits
He was so badass the dead had to wake up and put some respeck on his name he's one of the most underrating Sith Lords And duelist
In all his time as a Sith he was undefeated in signal combat
Oh. My. Force.
IT'S THE DANCING GODDESS STATUETTE!
Saw it the other night, thought it was good not great just good, but I did love all the reference.
Anyone else notice the Sabers on the Sith Holocon Mando display cases?
I'm so happy now!!!!
If the Rakata and the Neo Crusaders are now cannon then dose that mean that Revan and tor is now cannon?
The set is so interesting.
That Holocron is huge holy crap
This made Solo a Star Wars Story better
This is now one of my favorite ships
Ah well.
I'm calling it now, they will definitely connect Voss to Doctor Aphra!
Well done
Man, he had Anakin's and Kenobi's lightsaber too. Amazing
Btw, the armor was pretty lame because it was literally a 1:1 OYoroi, not even some changes to make it more scify, no, just a copy pasted one.
Great video! Got me to subscribe.
If the Rakata are canon now, does that mean, since their story crosses with Revan’s, that Revan himself is canon too?!?!
Love the channel and your content. In star wars we often see/hear that Jedi are trained to deal with forms of torture. Most specifically force lighting and mind probing. Are there any specific details on how the Jedi were trained to deal with this. Thanks in advance for your answer whether it be a video or a text response.
Would love to know who the lightsabers around the mandolorian armour belongs to.
Yknow what I just realized? One of the axes next to the mandalorian armor is the same axe wielded by one of the knights of Rens
the thing is i really really like dryden voss hes my favorite character in all of solo
Great video I watched it twice
OEU: You could not live with your failure, where did that bring you? Back to me.
I find the Rakata to be the most fascinating of Star Wars alien cultures.
Vos would've gotten along well with Thrawn, I can see them going on forever about their collections
