My 1st trip to Canton was in the late 1960s. My husband had family nearby and had gone to Canton all his life. I've been back at least every couple of years since that 1st visit. I train myself for the trip, working my way up from walking my customary 2 miles per day to 5 miles. Since I live around 8 hrs away I don't want anything like uncomfortable shoes or clothing hindering my visit. Over the yrs I've learned to take extra, new, fluffy socks, and change to clean, dry ones after 4 hrs, even in winter. I usually take 2 options of walking shoes, and a pair of rain boots. I try to park where I'm in the shade, and spend an hour resting in the car, rehydrating, and unloading my merchandise after 4 or 5 hours of shopping. This is when I take my folding cart or wagon if I've spotted an item too large or heavy to carry out by hand. I don't rent a scooter unless i need to haul something out, I don't push a cart because there are places I want to go that the walkways are rough. Carts and wagons slow me down too much. On Saturday there will be occasions that walking is slowed by bumper to bumper people, and sitting down on a scooter makes seeing merch impossible. To avoid crowds head to outlying areas to the unreserved vendor spaces. You'll find something good almost every time. I only go to First Monday in the winter months. Nov-March. I've been there during damp misty fall weather when
many outdoor vendors threw tarps over their merch and closed for the day at 2 pm. They seldom return until the next day.
There are many more tips for summer shopping, mainly don't expect to spend more than about 3-4 hours a day out there, and arrive early. Because of my travel distance I usually spend 3 nights. My arrival night and 2 more. I can always stop in Dallas on my way home for more shopping.

You are certainly a Canton pro! Hope you get to visit again soon!

@The Canton Junkie Good Luck with your channel. I hope it will grow to its full potential, which I believe is monumental. Some of the people covering classic car swap meets have huge followings. First Monday isn't much different.
My snotty Dallas friends go out there to *people watch*. I stopped telling them I'm going to be there. I prefer to go alone, because I don't want to waste my time looking at shabby chic stuff I can see at Hobby Lobby and many local boutiques.
I watched your 5 Worst Things video after I found ya. I was surprised you didn't mention the rest rooms. I'd pay $10 for a day pass to a nice bathroom when I'm out there.
Good stuff I learned from you is about the west parking. I've always parked on the east, to get under a shade tree, but I noticed those are being cleared little by little. Last time I went I found the little south parking lot. It's hilly, but it was close to the vendor I was buying a hoard of cowhides from. I kept remembering another friend that would want one for Christmas.
Next time I come I'll keep an eye out for you filming on your scooter. 😄

There are a few bathrooms that are horrible aka shower curtains instead of doors or doors that are far too short…but several that are nice and have an attendant to keep things clean and stocked.
I prefer to shop alone too to go at my own pace!

@The Canton Junkie I've been in those bathrooms with fabric "doors" when the outside doors were propped open and the wind was coming through with such force I had to hold the fabric down to get any privacy. 🤣 I hope they're adding new bathrooms in proportion to new parking. It's been fun chatting with someone who knows the ropes. After a group of local acquaintances learned I'd been there often I got lots of invites to accompany women's groups of 6 to 8 women. I did 2 of them before I learned to say no gracefully.

Just got back from the January First Monday Days!! My first trip. I flew from Savannah GA to DFW and rented a car. I stayed in a hotel 6 in Canton. Had so much fun!! Shipped 80 lbbox hone to myself. I cant wait to go back next fall.

That’s so awesome! This January was my first time in doing Canton in January-I will say it was quite a bit different feeling than normal months. (About half the vendors take the January dates off so it was much much slower than normal). If you are coming back this fall, the October and November dates will be amazing!! What were your favorite things about Canton?

Yes thats certainly one of the confusing things online…that it’s sun up to sun down. I sure wish it was the real hours tho!! Thanks for the added info on vendor hours!☺️
