Honesty with self is SOOO IMPORTANT!!! It’s one of the hardest fences to hurdle too.... especially in the beginning of recovery. But.... once you do it the first time, it gets easier and easier. You begin to learn the ways you lie to yourself, and you get closer to your truth. Thanks Derrick! I love that your really trying to help people.

very, very pleased that I listened to this Derek. So beautiful that you have found guidance from the stories that you read. Years ago, I recall watching "The Life of Pi." Most boring movie that I ever watched is what I thought through much of it, but one of the greatest lines in the story was "thank you God for life." This was the first time that I had even considered that thought and it was a good one. He was grateful in the midst of dire consequences. Being grateful is that NOW moment.
PS it is said that story telling has a transformative power, hence you are drawn to the stories.
I'm not sure why but this video brought me to tears.. thank you for everything you do Derek.. you're always an inspiration and I really appreciate that.
I'm on day 3 (again) and I'm struggling.. I just don't know where to find the strength to get through each day. it doesn't help that I'm alone and grieving deeply right now over another major loss in my life.
I just don't feel like I'm equipped with the tools I need to get through each day.. I feel like a fish out of water who is floundering and struggling to catch a breath.

Well I'm on the exact same feeling as you maybe not the exact same feeling but very close as I'm on day one of my struggle & Look you have did better as you are on your 3rd day (AGAIN for both of us)Keep your mental strength up as much as you can even though it's easier said than done as Wee both know!!! I'm grieving also with the loss of two family members & I feel it's harder emotionally to cope Also BUT I just saw your txt & once I read it I thought "The Same as me but two days ahead" Onwards & Upwards 👆💯% 🙏

I'm trying to stay strong.. hoping you can also!! Going through this while grieving definitely makes it much more difficult to cope, especially when the losses happened in such a shocking, unexpected and tragic way and I'm already susceptible to depression and panic attacks.
I am so sorry to hear of your losses also 😔 my heart and thoughts are with you..
I could never do this cold turkey, I tried that too many times and I feel like my body will shut down and won't be able to handle it so I'm using some comfort meds at home but I don't have much and still have to go to work.. it's extremely difficult but at the same time, it's making me stay busy so I'm not just suffering through each second, minute and hour. I just hate feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. 😣 Hang in there!!!

Wow this got me... been through a lot in the last year and felt pain I never thought I would... broken down but not giving up... I’m learning to not take one moment for granted because everything can change in seconds so forgive each other for we all sin, love like he/she is the only one in the world (I failed at expressing mine and assumed that she knew this.... I’m so very sorry for that) and never give up on the ones who were there for u.... I will definitely be checking out other vids thanks for this 🤔🤔👍🏼

Derek your videos are just awesome and inspirational. I am a long time heroin addict, went to a great rehab, got clean for 8 months. Came out started using again, I hate myself, I don't know how to rid myself of the desire to use. Old habits came right back, selling and stealing things etc. I love my son so very much and I want to be a hero in his eyes but I cant rid myself of this desire to use. I live in a small town, couldn't find work, couldn't rebuild relationships with family, they still treated me just like they did before, they hate me for all my past behaviour as a addict and I don't think they will ever get over it. They treat me very badly and yes I do deserve it, it just makes me feel worthless and I started using again. I don't know what to do brother, I am at my wit's end. In rehab i swore I would never use again, man I was so happy to be clean, it felt so so good. I can't believe I used again and now fear of course going through the dreaded withdrawals again, you know how insane that is. I feel worthless and like maybe I am destined to be this way, that maybe I don't deserve more and this is all I will ever be. I want to be a good man and a good father more than anything in the world but I cant seem to get rid of this demon. If you have any advice would be much appreciated bud.

Getting clean and staying clean for persons believing they are addicts winds up, IME - for most - a 50/50 proposition. In the now, we choose to use or stay clean...it's a decision. If nuances and metaphor help the decision all the better.
