When you say that you're restoring this hall to what it once was, what time period are you thinking? What does it mean to restore a building that has been around for 6 centuries? Are you hoping to restore each part to the period when it was added? Or the whole building as it might have been when the family abandoned it? Or are you trying to capture the spirit of the hall over the years and through the changes?

Hopwood have you ever looked at one of the Former Monarches Army commanders family trees? One who severed as the Army Commander for to English Kings in major battles against the Scottish. Just wondering, since I may be descendant related to that Commander and then back to you. E.i. 1500s or earlier.

We had birds nesting in our fireplace vent. The vent was 25 feet high on the wall, and the birds loved it. They didn't go away even when the fireplace was lit. We put a grate over the vent, and the birds pecked it open. Finally, we hired professional animal removers. They cleared the nest, removed the adult birds (we waited until the hatchlings were grown, and had flown away) installed a new grate "et voila' " no more birds.

I was a student at De La Salle College from 1984 - 1987 and I lived in The Hopwood Hall building for a year in a room just above the side entrance. We shared the building with The De La Salle Brothers and the student union. The building also contained the student bar and disco. We had many great times there and I was sad to see the extent of the deterioration of such an important building. It's great to see the renovation taking place and the videos bring back some great memories. I spent many happy hours in the billiard room between lectures - my second home!

Re: pigeons: I was the caretaker for a large church for many years, and twice we had those damn birds get in. There were only a couple of them each time, but it took (as we did not want to just kill them) WEEKS to get them out. Even though they had nothing to eat while in the building, the amount of poop they produced was astounding. People often call them "Flying Rats", and I admit I have no love for them at all.

Hopwood, Sir, We've exchanged notes briefly before.
I so enjoy this story of your connection to this hall. I appreciate very much that YOU are the one that has fallen into this position. You seem so open, genuine, unpretentious and so willing to share this experience with us, and I love that. Thank you so much for that.
I have so many questions about your process and the support you have in place for this massive undertaking, but lets just keep this simple.
As a designer today I've been studying what I call real parquet floors.
So my question is: Have you found or uncovered any wonderful parquet flooring in the hall? If so what types of rooms are they or it in? If not, what types of floors are throughout the hall? I'm sure the time period of construction, the level of public versus private spaces, as well as many other factors influence these details.
I haven't seen any in the videos but I also wonder if there is any stained glass or beautiful leaded glass in the hall.
    Thank you so much.

I like the old photo at 12:20 of one of the salons and how it looks like it is animated like an old stereo-vision slide but the 4 matching elaborate wooden columned stands each holding a delicate vase at their precarious peaks way above head level. Are you still working or has the Hall become your work lol I can understand trying to post video's on the regular, it's really hard to do when you need to focus on the Hall but it does get people like me to watch and a little add revenue. Post when you can and don't stress about how often you're posting.

I don't understand; when asked about ownership, you keep saying "Currently owned by Council but we'll take responsibility..." Does that mean some measure of "ownership" (in the sense that we Americans understand land/structure ownership) will be transferred to you/your entity? I'm still not clear. I get the impression that "responsibility" references a state more akin to lifetime land-use rights than to "ownership," per se.

Proud to see things like this getting restored okay it was his late family home someone should have told him sooner that belongs to him i am pleased that he is definitely restoring it all he should make it in to grand hotel and make his money back it might take a long time but it would definitely be worth it very expensive to live there I couldn't afford to stay a night there from 1000.00 pounds a night to 10000.00 pounds for the top luxury rooms that including meals only breakfast. Lunch dinner late night tea snacks no free drinks unless it for special quests

Who is “us”? You said the responsibility will transition to us. Is that the royal plural 😅 or is there someone else who will share the responsibility?
I wonder if as a producer your expectations of video quality is higher and that’s why you don’t feel you can make longer videos. This channel is a lot less active than other manor/estate/chateau restoration channels I watch. I do love your videos for the funny video/pic inserts and your humorous trips, etc. You crack me up! 🤣 Those of course take extra time.
I love the architectural history and other historical factoids and speculations. Super fascinating!
    Thanks for the update!

I kniw when you say "we" it's not the royal we but you are talking about all the people helping you, the clubs and groups that are doing moldings, gardening, archiving, videos etc . The building has stopped looking like a derelict and is looking more like a restoration in your latest photos. I would like to know if you have a rough timeline for getting the roof, walls, windows and each section done or are you still mostly putting out fires (ie trying to keep it from falling down?

Sometimes the weariness of physical labor and keeping tabs on myriad details shows in those baby blues, but that's understandable. I'd bet you're bone tired as often as not. I spied a floral spot, and hope you take time to sit, rest and enjoy it, with your coffee or tea. And sometimes your eyes are incredibly blue, other times more subdued; I suspect they're that changeable type based on clothing color.
