Andy Gibb was just as talented as his three brothers (and big sister...) - we have their musical parents to thank for that. Andy (in spite of being the youngest, and 12 years younger than Barry...) was in a way "Barry's twin brother" musically. When he collapsed (in Robin's house, in England...) he'd had a clean bill of health for a long time. However, his longtime heart condition (myocarditis - inflammation of the heart muscle...), and his past drug use ended up being a lethal combination. We lost a beautiful (and talented...) soul way too soon...

My older cousin introduced me to great music from a young age. I was about 10 yrs old when she bought Andy's new single "I just want to be your everything" & she had me come over to hear it. She played it over & over on a constant loop, until we both had the lyrics memorized. I just turned 55 on Tuesday (Apr 5) & I still know every word of that song & "Shadow Dancing". Those two songs have been burned into my long term memory, so I'll still be able to sing it verbatim when I'm in my 80's or 90's... if my body lasts that long - LOL! I'm so glad more people are starting to discover the music of the "baby Bee Gee" brother. Even though Andy was 12 years younger than Barry (the oldest), they could have been twins. They share very similar facial features & vocal sound. Barry & Andy looked more like twins than the actual fraternal twins, Robin & Maurice did - LOL! Andy is the baby of the family & he was still little when his older brothers hit it big on the music charts back in the 1960's. With the help of his brothers, Andy embarked upon a solo career, which he was very successful at, even in the short amount of time he created music. He put out a few albums, appeared on many TV shows, & also hosted a variety show called SOLID GOLD that did weekly countdowns of the most popular songs of the time. On occasion, he joined The Bee Gees while on their concert tours or TV specials. Sadly, he died just a few days past his 30th birthday (1988) from a heart condition, which was greatly exacerbated by years of alcohol & drug use. He was the youngest, but the first to pass away. Then twin #1 Maurice died in 2003, followed by the other twin, Robin in 2012. Barry, the oldest boy and his sister, Leslie (first born) are the last two surviving Gibb siblings left...
Dear Chad, greetings from Australia. Thank you so much for rekindling my admiration and love for the Bee Gees. I am nearly 80, and was into the boys when they were just kids who went overseas. I got sidetracked with four kids, a career and community work and now well into my retirement, despite 7 grandchildren, love the time I now have for this musical revival. Love you Chad. I just stumbled across this, and I couldn't help wondering what might have been if this amazing young man had not burned himself up at the age of 30. Shortly before he died, his brothers announced that he would be joining the BeeGees. And his death really tore up his brothers; I'm not sure they ever really got over it. It is my understanding that the Bee Gees, some or all of them, sang backup on this song. Obviously there are no singers or musicians on stage with Andy so it's a recording being played. That said... Andy "may" have been lipsycing to the recorded track or he was singing his part live with the recording. Either could have been the case I suppose.
If you haven’t yet may I suggest listening to Odessa the last album featuring the original Bee Gees ensemble before their brief breakup a masterpiece !
The Bee Gees did sing background for the album. Andy was very talented. A shame he was lost so young. And the tech and lighting has hurt, not helped I think. You don't hear the real talented people and the lighting shows are a distraction from the performance. Plus, many people with health issues that are irritated by flashing bright lights, epilepsy for one, can't go to concerts because of the lighting

Come on, guys. If you didn’t see it come out of one of the Gibbs’ mouths, it probably isn’t true. Andy’s drug and alcohol problems were documented at least as early as 1976 or 77. The Gibbs denounced a lot of what the tabloids printed, and I’ve seen them say in interviews that they didn’t blame her. They had reservations about the age difference.... and the Cali lifestyle.... and were concerned about Andy’s behavior.... but did not blame her for leaving, or for his death. Just my opinion.....

There was a lot of lipsynching on these shows back in the day, especially on the daytime shows. They didn't have live orchestras or bands.
Barry tried to HELP Him in every way but he couldn't save him from himself. So sad. He looks like Barry sounds like Barry.......but he was determined to be himself.
Also back in the old days, people respected the solo artist and stayed quiet, and properly responded at the end of the performance.

I just stumbled across this, and I couldn't help wondering what might have been if this amazing young man had not burned himself up at the age of 30. Shortly before he died, his brothers announced that he would be joining the BeeGees. And his death really tore up his brothers; I'm not sure they ever really got over it. Maybe it was because Andy was just a couple of months older than me.

Andy was my favorite and btw don't be fooled by Barry he was not on good terms with Andy when he died. People were always comparing Andy to Barry and Andy didn't want to live in Barry's shadow i understand i live in my sister's shadow so i get why he distanced himself from his brother's. Andy was very talented in his own right and no one i man NO ONE can take that from Andy. R.I.P. Sweetheart i pray you found the peace you so longed for on earth and never achieved.
It is my understanding that the Bee Gees, some or all of them, sang backup on this song. Obviously there are no singers or musicians on stage with Andy so it's a recording being played. That said... Andy "may" have been lipsycing to the recorded track or he was singing his part live with the recording. Either could have been the case I suppose.

The Bee Gees did sing background for the album. Andy was very talented. A shame he was lost so young. And the tech and lighting has hurt, not helped I think. You don't hear the real talented people and the lighting shows are a distraction from the performance. Plus, many people with health issues that are irritated by flashing bright lights, epilepsy for one, can't go to concerts because of the lighting

Which had not happened due to the age differences, she belittled him in front of everyone .. :( Barry blamed her for a lot of what happened to Andy. As he was broken when he died ...

Come on, guys. If you didn’t see it come out of one of the Gibbs’ mouths, it probably isn’t true. Andy’s drug and alcohol problems were documented at least as early as 1976 or 77. The Gibbs denounced a lot of what the tabloids printed, and I’ve seen them say in interviews that they didn’t blame her. They had reservations about the age difference.... and the Cali lifestyle.... and were concerned about Andy’s behavior.... but did not blame her for leaving, or for his death. Just my opinion.....

I do believe this was on tv. I think he was singing to a prerecorded soundtrack where his brothers were the background vocals. This song was a smashing hit when it came out. Plus, the lighting here is purposely placed so that you cannot see Andy’s signature hip action. Def not G rated.

Too cool for school man.. that was Andy Gibb! He always wanted to be a part of the brothers BeeGees band but they thought he was too young when he got started. They were just getting ready to bring him into the band when he pasted away.. so very sad for the brothers and fans. He was just as talented as the rest of the brothers Gibb.. what a lose. 💔

Andy wanted the game...lifestyle...the women....the drugs...ECT. BUT he didn't want THE WORK it takes. It was really that simple. No work but all the glory. He was nothing like BARRY unfortunately. Barry eventually tried a TOUGH LOVE APPROACH to try and save him.....but that didn't work either. Barry is haunted by the loss of his baby brother....and why he couldn't save him....!!??

I have to correct people; Andy was the composer of the song along with the 3 Brothers, meaning he wrote the song in addition to the input of Mo, Rob, & Barry. All 3 Brothers DID NOT do background vocals here. I have to give credit where it is due: studio version consisted of Andy of course on lead, also doing background, Barry doing background & harmony ... & Johnne "John" Sambataro was also on background & harmony, & a great musician!
