    Consider making a doublebag for winter. They used to be more common but still work if one bag is slightly larger than the other. I have slept in 30 below F in the Adirondacks quite comfortably with a lightweight summer bag inside a cold weather (not winter per se) bag. You avoid an expensive dedicated winter bag if you do not need one. Cheers.

    • @BrooksandBirches
      @BrooksandBirches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done this before and I have a nice fleece bag from Dicks that was like $15 the problem is it is so much bulk bringing two bags with you, not to mention heavy!

    There's nothing worse than a weak sleeping bag. I was on a fishing trip last Winter and was unexpectedly caught out overnight in sub-freezing weather. all I had in my truck was an old Coleman. I May have had 15 minutes of sleep that night. A good fire was all that saved me. Your sleeping bag would probably feel warm compared to that.

    • @BrooksandBirches
      @BrooksandBirches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree mate! That's one of the reasons I don't love to head out in temps that I know are beyond my sleeping bags limits because we've all been there when you have the wrong gear and spend the whole night freezing cold and I've done different survival situations on the channel before and it's not fun at all

    This is an extract from Robinson Jeffers’
    The Tower Beyond Tragedy:
    I entered the life of the brown forest
    And the great life of the ancient peaks,
    The patience of stone,
    I felt the changes in the veins
    In the throat of the mountain, and I was the streams
    Draining the mountain woods;
    and I the stag drinking,
    and I was the stars boiling with light,
    wandering alone, each one the lord of his own summit,
    and I was the darkness
    outside the stars I included them.
    They were part of me …
    How can I express the excellence I have found
    That has no color but clearness;
    No honey but ecstasy.

    7:03 This is Sparta? Hope you and yours are well, Rob! I see you've purchased a Kuiu pack since the last video I watched. What are your impressions of it? I've read they're a bit uncomfortable under heavy loads. I went with a Stone Glacier 5900 back in 2017 when I bought a backpack hunting pack. Highly recommend.

      @BrooksandBirches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've had it since I went on the bear hunt in the spring and I mean I like it but I don't have much to compare it too, but between me and my hunting buddy I have the Kuiu and he has an Eberlestock and he just bought a Kifaru so I'm going to try and get a Stone Glacier 5900 at some point for us to do a comparison
