I think Ben Lewis is the best phantom for Love Never Dies because his voice is so much more mature compared to Ramin whose voice is more suited for the younger phantom in the Phantom of the Opera. Both portray the Phantom amazingly, just at different ages and time periods.
/FAINT! THIS is how the Phantom should sound! Hallelujah! There are no words that could adequately describe how much I love the way his voice sounds and how well he executes the end of the song.
Ben is an amazing Phantom! It's a hard thing to do following Michael Crawford's performances. Either way, I would LOVE to fly overseas to see him perform! It just makes me squee!! :)
Wow...just watched LND for the second time, only 3 more shows to go in Sydney. Lost count of how many times I've watched the DVD...Met and spoke with Ben and Anna tonight. Sadly for Australia we are loosing Ben to London very soon when he and his wife move there and Anna too is moving there soon after her own concert in Sydney next month. They are so easy going and down to earth, really lovely people and so is Maria who plays Madam Giri who insisted on giving me a hug after our chat.
sitzprobe performances are always the best because it's the first time you sing through with the orchestra, so I'm sure he had all this extra adrenaline and passion getting to hear the 56 piece playing! he killed the Bflat at the end on "I", better than I've ever heard him do it!
And that was musical theatre singing of the first magnitude, folks! But the cameras were certainly getting on my nerve!! Ben rocks! Does he have a solo CD?
My fave Phantom EVER! His voice also has a timbre very very similar to the majestic Jeremy Brett's, the unsurpassed Sherlock Holmes. Thanks so much for this stunning clip.
I think, vocally, his performance here was even better than in the LND "movie", if you will. It's more raw and just smoother/more powerful, in my opinion.
At first I was like WAAAHHH RAGE WHY ISN'T RAMIN ON THE DVD I DISLIKE THIS GUY. But after watching the DVD 3 times I have to say he really grew on me :) Love him!
In my view it's quite difficult to determine wheter Ben's or Ramin's interpretation of the phantom is the better one. Both of them have a stunning and unique voice, that's a sure thing. But personally I think that Ben fits rather to the role of the elder Erik than to the younger. Ramin embodies suitably the two versions.
Although I'm not entirely a fan of the changes of the characters (from the London to Australian production). I thought that Lewis was brilliant as Erik. His vocals were spot-on.
In hindsight, it is clear how right the Australian casting decision was. Ben embodies a darker, older and sadder Phantom. And his rendition hearkens back to Gaston Leroux' original portrayal of the psychotic genius - he is Dracula, Nesferatu, Frankenstein, the Beast. Ben Lewis' Phantom personifies those dark and haunting literary figures more faithfully than most Phantoms in recent memory.
how could anybody not love voice?!?! It makes my heart start to beat my heart faster when he really gets into it and when he shows such emotions it puts me on the verge of crying
Brian Estanislao He set the bar really high. ALW had to hire Gardar Thor Cortes and Rachel Anne Moore who're both opera trained singers for the LND Hamburg.
TheMsiaddict if you want to know Ben is a west end Phantom he is leaving next month as far as we know but his replacement is only doing it till December Ben also is really good live as the phantom only phantom I have seen live
Is it just me, or The Phantom in LND should sound like this and not like Ramin's youthful tone?! I mean, Ramin's a great vocalist, no one doubts it. But in this story, the Phantom is already 10 years older. So he's kinda supposed to sound deeper. I love Ben's voice. It's dark, it's mysterious, it portrays Erik really well. We need more baritones like this man.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. This is my number 1 concern about Ramin as 10 years older Phantom. Yes he's wonderful but he's too youthful to play the old Phantom.
Yeah I agree. I like ben better for LND Phantom, but Ramin for the original Phantom all the way. I do like the occasional deeper voice Phantom, not always the Lyric Baritone voices like Ramin.
Ben Lewis honestly is the best male singer I have ever heard in my life. He doesn't ever seem to mess up, and his voice is just so fulfilling and satisfying for the soul. In all my years I have never heard any man sing as beautiful and as perfect as him

He is definitely my favourite Phantom impersonator. His voice is deep, dark and, as many already said, much more mature than Ramin's voice. I'd love to see him one day in original 'Phantom', not the sequel. Mr Lewis has charm, power and 'this something' what I still can't find listening to Ramin which is surely great singer yet... Ben is Amazing. His voice is like a dark soft lullaby in my ears. He should totally have an award that says "Best Singing Voice For The Phantom". He makes the Phantom more torn for his love of Christine, more malevolent with his desires, more bitter and ashamed, and more vulnerable of the piece of his heart that is empty that only Christine could fill (hence the lines "My broken soul can't be alive or whole" and "I'll always feel no more than half way real" he still waits to hear Christine sing)
That's the true meaning of music right there. No auto-tuning, lip-synching, or flash. just a pure beautiful voice delivering a beautiful set of vocals with a beautiful melody in the background
Personally, I love Ben as the Phantom and I honestly believe that he makes for a much better phantom than Ramin, and not just in LND. I think that the phantom should have that deep and powerful voice that Ben naturally has, both in POTO and 10 years later, in LND. Also, unlike Ramin, I can feel Ben's emotions through his singing, not just his acting. His voice is just so smooth and tender and I can feel what he is feeling through his interpretation of every word. I cannot wait to see him take on the original phantom in London. It never fails. Every time I watch this video, I cry. This is coming from someone who grew up listening to Michael Crawford, and recently I’ve started following Ramin Karimloo’s work. Ben has such a GORGEOUS color and timbre to his voice, that embodies the maturity, the longing, the nostalgia this song evokes. I would love to see him perform as the Phantom someday. 💙

I have to say, Ben Lewis is also my fave phantom in POTO too, not only in LND. Come to west end to see how perfect he is in the original production!
Considering how old he damn well SHOULD BE...lol. Erik's voice should be dying by the time LND takes place imho

I love that he couldn’t help but act a little at the part “ .. and music, your music, it teases at my ears” like he is really feeling the lyrics..
He has such an amazing voice
It never fails. Every time I watch this video, I cry. This is coming from someone who grew up listening to Michael Crawford, and recently I’ve started following Ramin Karimloo’s work. Ben has such a GORGEOUS color and timbre to his voice, that embodies the maturity, the longing, the nostalgia this song evokes. I would love to see him perform as the Phantom someday. 💙
He was The Phantom in 2017-2018 though.
TheMsiaddict yes, he was! However, I’ve never seen him perform live. That was the context of my comment 😁
HE should be on Broadway at the Majestic playing The Phantom, not that nasty pervert Barbour.
Cara Antoinette
He's certainly better than James Barbour.
well depends if he dose it since us lot in the UK and every one who goes to London have him as the Phantom
Best Phantom since the original, Michael Crawford.
I can stop listening to him sing!!! Totally enthralled!Where have I been?
