      That's what the engine was rated for from the factory at the flywheel when it was in the Lincoln it came in. Very respectable for wheel hp with a 22 yr old engine.

      @@blugods2655 , thats almost a stock 4v bbk headers oem cams n intake with a o/r exhaust.. it takes every bolt on an choppy cams to make 279hp with a 2v

    I like what you're doing here man. You're building turdzilla properly with the 4.56 gears, weight reduction, lighter wheels, sticky tires, and simple NA mods. You're on your way to success with this setup. She definitely pulls strong for 279whp.

    I have an 03 mustang GT with a 94 lincoln mark viii motor in it and a cobra intake and exhaust manifold and cold air intake, making close to 300rwhp. This setup is really nice and clean.

    The rattle is probably the muffler bearing. When you drive it hard, they tend to fail on you and make a scratching rattling sound. I recently had to replaced both of mine. 9:32

    Thank you for putting the right gear in that 4v. I went through 4.10s, 4.30s and 4.56s in my mach1... 4.56s were the gear that felt 'right'. When I got my marauder, that was the first mod - and it was glorious :D

      @@dd859 even with a 4.56 your theoretical top speed is somewhere in the 185mph range, long after you run out of power. I had the mach to 166mph, backed out due to that platform feeling like it was never designed to go that fast... Lol

    Oh my!! That’s pretty nice power curve. Sounds really good. Maybe put the camera at chest height would make POV slightly better. I do like the head height though

    So I'm sure I'll come off like a dumbass but I looked on here as well as other sources about what's needed to swap an old Mark engine into a New Edge but only get "just swap the plug polarities and you're good", is that really all that you have to do? Bought a 01 4v and shopping around for a good shell (got it for next to nothing as my neighbor was taking the car to the scrap from a tbone) and wanted to know what's up for just a basic swap.

      Exactly what I was thinking, but he should swap the heads with the 2v trickflow 185s, and trickflow or edelbrock intake manifold. Great for forced induction

    Do you have the factory drive shaft and shifter? The drive shaft might free up some more. Also, can we see this hole in the trunk?

    It is because of the poor heads and Intake killing it. It's a Mark8 Intech motor, stock they were rated in the 280's at the crank."The 4.6 L V8 produced 280 hp (210 kW) @ 5500 rpm and 285 lb⋅ft (386 N⋅m) of torque @ 4500 rpm and required premium grade 91-octane fuel for optimum performance". The cobra's of the same era were only rated at 305 crank hp. The 03-04 were rated at 400/400 with a super charger on them. But they were build to handle way more......so most of them got WAY more, lol. My 04 was 553hp at the tire with just a supercharger upgrade, and supporting mods. I had a 93 Mark 8 back in the early 2000's and it was a very nice car but was like a luxury Cobra, was not setting any records that is for sure.

    What's the rpm on the highway with those gears?

      2700-2800 was what my Mach did at around 75-80. I had a t56 with the .62 OD gear. They are not bad at all, most people hear 4.56s and act like it'll go 5500rpm on the freeway and top speed is 88mph.

    Not bad for a stock motor. Its a cobra intake and cams thats stock lol. I dont think people realize that this is still pretty much just a stock 4v. You made 40 or so over stock pretty much with exhaust ,injectors and a tune.

    Did use the 2v MAF sensor or did you buy a cobra maf? I basically did the exact same sway as you on this car but mine runs better without the MAF sensor plugged in, all I have is a SCT tune on it just trying to figure out what to do with the MAF sensor

    I forgot just how far Ford was behind when the LS was introduced and how much of an improvement the Coyote was. I had a 4th gen Camaro back in the day with a Hypertech tune before HP Tuners and EFI Live was available running 12.7 through stock manifolds with just an air lid 3.73s 3600 stall and exhaust. Awesome build though, excuse my lack of Ford knowledge but would a 5.4 32 valve be a better NA swap than the 4.6?

      Most F-bodies were making 275 at the crank before the LS . The LT5 ZR1 was making power though, 50% more power. ZR1's also cost twice as much. It may be a fitment issue. 5.4 has taller heads. Notoriously crappy motor. Unless it's out of a Ford GT. I personally like 4 valve per engines and high rpms.

      I think overall a 3v will rate a little higher in hp than this type of 4v....but I think the Mach1 4v is even with the 3v.

      compression ratio is the biggest factor between the hp differences. the 4v mod motors have a lower compression compared the the 3v motors

    I have a 2000 GT mustang that has a Mach 1 engine in it out of a 03 Mach 1 when it is at a idle it runs good but when you start to pull out it starts missing at 3000 rpms she runs great at around 6000 rpms it starts missing again what do I do with this thing

    The MK VIII engine doesnt have as much compression as a stock Cobra. Thats why you didn't hit the stock figure of 305hp/300tq.

      Interestingly enough, if measured at the crank, I'm sure that 279rwhp comes out close to if not more than 305hp, accounting for power loss through the drivetrain. It's very impressive stuff for what is effectively a stock Mark VIII with headers, a 5 speed, and a tune. Hmm.

      That's rated to the crank dude. This is to the wheel on the dyno. Drivetrain loss is probably around 15 percent, so 279 hp is great with just longtubes and a tune

      silversolb18 engines have came a long way Just sold a 12 5.0 with long tubes o/r x and Lund tune plus a few other bolts on dynoed 402 whp 387wtq. My little 3.7 6 banger is making 291whp 282 wtq running mid 13's but damn sure don't sound as good as turdzilla

      These cars come from a time when 300 was fun 400 was fast and 500hp was fast as fuck. Now new cars come with that which is honestly boring. You can make 4 and 6 cylinders fast easily.

    Thank god for the coyote. All that work and not even enough for your average stock ls1 at 300 rwhp. No wonder ford grabbed an extra lung for the 03 cobra lol

      The 4v motors are notorious for not putting out big peak numbers... but they have a very nice and long powerband - often with 2 peaks, so you're around max hp for a good 2000 rpm. Top end power is robbed by the foot+ long runner intake and 380 lift factory cams... Imagine a 4.8 LS with a truck intake and 380 lift cam... lol

    These are very realistic number for 98 engine. 279rwhp is around 328 hp or so. But still 3V swap FTW haha jk

    I figured the dohc motor produced more than that is it because its out of lincoln? I have a 2000 sohc mustang that i just put a reman motor in and rebuilt the 4r70w with a few up grades. Ive got 4.10s. It does the job. Old motor had 260000 original miles. Ive had it for 17 years now

      Many factors: heat, miles, da, Dyno, etc. hard to say if the engine is tired or not. The car trapped 105 mph in the 1/4 in heat
