I've been donating for years and have even worked at a center. My boss said one donation can be worth up to 1,000 dollars. They hook us up after making us wait a bit to get screened, and the whole process takes about an hour roughly. I always believe they should be paying the donors more. EVERY person that sticks you either just finshed training there at the center or are one of few that have stuck around a little while. These are not nurses or any registered medical professionals. They're entry level jobs and they don't pay them very well either. It's a crazy profitable business and they should be paying us all more. 40 dollars the first visit and 80 the second. Every week, only twice a week.

For whatever negative effects there are of selling plasma, it's hard to argue that it's worse than the negative effects of 'letting people die because there's a lack of plasma supply'. Same goes for other organs. Iran lets people sell their kidney and they have a waiting list of people wanting to give their kidneys to people who need it, compared to every other country that have people dying on a waiting list for a new kidney
negative effects? there are literaly none. people in need of blood/plasma can get it easier and people in harder financial situation can supplement their income, and because there is competition and ita not government doing it they strive for best price for both customers and donors and provide betyer quality service. If I could sell my plasma twice a week for 50 euro I would do it, it would bump my income by 25 procent and would allow me to save for home or education way faster while probably saving people lives. Free market for the best.
I think the biggest risk is people who shouldn't donate doing it for the money. Say you're homeless, you know you have a horrible bloodborne disease and you're hungry, would you be tempted to lie on an information sheet and give plasma for some money to buy a few meals with?
I had hemolytic anemia and I’m pretty sure I needed this stuff. Plus blood transfusion. I’m thankful for that person and hope to do the same for someone else
I've donated plasma many, many times. Almost every single time the money went to my addiction. It completely fueled my addiction at some points. These places wouldn't survive if people had to take drug tests prior to donating. Your plasma does not transmit whatever is in your system....so they don't care. Doesn't matter to them if you use their money for street drugs. People nodding out in the waiting room is extremely common.
In Czech Republic we are allowed to donate only 2 times a month (570-830ml each time I think). They say that it's dangerous to do it more freguently. Plus there is some 'recovery time' after more donations I think.
I am 35 y old and donated blood at school in 2002 and they told me had Hepatitis C. It was very stressful and I was scared, but I guess donating is also a good way of checking if you are ok. I am fine now and illness is non active, antibodies. The big con is I can never give my blood away since that happened so its a bit sad. Just my 2 cents to the story.
Duuuuuude! That's exactly how I found out I have Hep C! I'm one month away from getting rid of it. Who knows how long I've had it. The Red Cross said I can donate again 6 months after my treatment.
It's how I found out I had hypertension. I went to donate blood and they told me to seek medical attention immediately because of my blood pressure. Now my BP is under control and I have no concerns about it. I'm thankful for the people that made me aware, otherwise I wouldn't have known.
Let's flip the coin again. You raise the minimum wage, less people will want to donate. Thus limiting the supply of plasma and compromising the health of thousands. Boom. Lawyered
Increasing minimum wage = everyone adjusts for how much people are paid, causing everything to adjust and equalize to the same value it was worth last time, stupid argument.

In med school it was discussed that in the US for profit system a "donor" in reality is not paid upon the first donation but after the unit has been quarantined, screened, tested and deemed safe for use, which may take a couple of days, then when the donor shows up to give the subsequent donation, then gets paid for the previous one and so on... I don't remember exactly so if someone wishes to clarify it will be much appreciated.

In india donors are paid 1 juice box , one blood donation card and a reassurance that someone who is in dire need of blood products will get it free of cost.❤️❤️❤️
And compared to the USA how much of the plasma supply does India supply? Given that in the video it is already mentioned the USA supplies a majority.... I'm going to go with not a big percentage. It does make sense as to why it is efficient, working and growing despite the ethical concerns, all I am concerned for is the health of the people behind the plasma. Donating plasma once or twice a month is not only safe but good, donating twice a week does raise some concerns.
If it wasn't safe we'd know about it. It's been twice a week for years and there's nothing to suggest it's unsafe. It's not a big deal to donate, it's just a lot of waiting around esp your first time.
I've donated 12 years mostly regularly 2x a week. Now 62, bicycle 5 miles daily, weightlift daily, eat well, record my intake data & donation times. The worst part is standing in line waiting, up to 2 hours some days (unpaid). The best part is serving others while getting more healthy and wealthy.

Plasma centers are nice, the whole idea is nice. The execution is exploitive and takes advantage of everyone involved. I've never seen a plasma center set up in an affluent neighborhood. They're always in poor areas and always push push push for your "donation". People in these areas don't sell plasma because they want to, they do it because they need groceries or gas. Then they turn around and sell it and make medications those who gave plasma can't afford. Not to mention no one is really looking into the long term consequences. In the US you are "encouraged" to "donate" twice a week. Other countries limit you to once every two weeks because of the toll it takes on your body. I support getting paid for your time and blood, it helps you and whoever needs the medicine. I do not support the exploitive nature of the industry or the medical industry as a whole in the US. We need changes. Big ones.
Exactly, they should be doing to help and save others, not because they want the money, the one person said she's doing it for the money which she shouldn't she should be doing it out of the kindness of their hearts

WoW, in Spain we really donate Blood, the only think you get is a snack and juice if you want It. People sees donating Blood as a social responsablility so here there is no lack of donors.
Plasma donation is not considered a blood donation, at least here in the US. They are 2 different things. We donate blood for free here as well, or perhaps a t-shirt or maybe a $10 gift card (in my experience), which I have done several times. I have not donated plasma yet, but I am considering it because I know it is needed. And honestly, considering the amount of profit the companies make selling people's plasma, the person giving the plasma probably should be re-imbursed. The issue is the big business aspect of the whole thing. But that's how it is here. So yes, I think considering the time involved (I would have to drive 45 minutes each way to most of the centers in my area) and the time spent donating, i think it's fair, at least in this country. But I do love Spain and respect their way of doing things! Also, you guys (and much of the rest of the world) have public healthcare, which makes a difference, I believe. Here we do not, unfortunately. Everything's for a profit here, sigh.

Something about this doesn't seem right, this scares me for some reason. They've taken out the selfless part of donations. Like, what if in the future people stop helping each other unless they have something in it for them? They're profiting off of poor people who need money, literally manipulating them into selling their body. Talk about taking advantage of people's hard times and illnesses.
@@supergleep9692 Selling definition is:- "give or hand over (something) in exchange for money." So yes, they're not donating. They're selling their plasma. Since it's illegal to sell body parts, companies try and get around this issue by saying they're compensating them for their 'time' and not plasma. The hard fact is that a large percentage of these people wouldn't have come to 'donate' without a monetary reward and that makes it sad. And the bigger risk? It opens up the door for Human organ trafficking. I don't remember exactly so if someone wishes to clarify it will be much appreciated.

Hey even if you get paid its just tiny amount compared to how much they make. Its still goodness of your heart It’s personally not fun to get jabbed and waste an 1-2 hr every time you go . Not including depleting your own body for it .
It isn't expensive, or inexpensive.
It is simply the price agreed to by the buyer and seller.
Id argue its expensive because goverments arounf the world dont let people sell theyre own blood and plasma. I cant sell it so I dont donate.
