Bought this on a Saturday and was delivered on Tuesday. Build quality is pretty good, especially at that price, and it’s more comfortable than any of the Eames reproductions I’ve sat in. Really happy so far.
I bought this exact chair. It is beautiful! Have had it for a couple of months now and don't regret the purchase at all. LOVE IT for all the reasons you have pointed out. 👍
Replicas are one thing and have their following. An homage based on the original is another. Nothing wrong with that. More padding and adjustably goes a long way towards more comfort. I can see this being the perfect chair for my stereo set up.
I have the Herman Miller and you cannot deny it's iconic design and shape. However, I wish there was one change they would make and that is to let it recline - even it's just a little. When you first lay your eyes on it, it's just gorgeous. And when you first sit on it, it feels amazing. Then what's your next natural move while sitting on it? You try to recline only to find out you are unable to and I find this restriction feels so unnatural especailly with how the chair molds around your body. I will say, one of the reasons why this Herman Miller last so long is because of the lack of moving parts and if they provide the ability to recline, it will almost always submit to loose or broken parts over time. That said, this Chita Elvin looks very intersting. I do question the build quality and the overall longevity of it but the ability to recline is so attractive.
It's an interesting comparison. the Elvin chair looks like it'd be very comfortable, but most people who get the Eames chair get it because it's the Eames chair. The design and look has so much appeal that most are willing to forgive its slight drawbacks. I'd like to see a replica with the enhancements the Elvin has. It would be pretty tempting.
As someone who just got this in, I highly recommend not buying it. It's uncomfortable, susceptible to breaking and their return policy is absolutely terrible.
Completely agree. The manufacturer states up to 6' 2" for a reason, he should amend this review and stop misleading ignorant peeps like me. I'm 6' 4", headrest is completely useless and won't stay in the highest position anyway. Also a curved 'headrest' that pushes your shoulders forward is moronic, flattening it out might work better. Seating becomes painful after a longer periods.
would love to see an update or round up for all budget ergo chairs. Many chairs that I've looked up after watching your vids have raised prices or are unavailable now!
Having bought a knockoff eames lounge at about double the price, this recliner seems like a great value! Must say, it doesn’t have the same look, the eames is just such an iconic design but it does look nice and the recliner feature is really cool!
The Eames Lounge Chair is an icon because it's an ergonomic and "design" masterpiece. The Elvin is ergonomic too, arguably more comfortable than the Eames Lounge Chair but the Elvin is a design disaster plus it too heavily quotes the original and still the greatest, Eames Lounge Chair. Also, the "new" Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair is compromised, hence why you can't rest your head on the back comfortably. Herman Miller is a shady company and they constantly cut corners to save money but they still charge exorbitantly premium prices. Also, Herman Miller's "warranty" is bogus. Buy an original 1st - 3rd generation Eames Lounge Chair. 2nd gen has the best value for money and are highly collectible. You get real Brazilian rosewood instead of Herman Miller's new, cheap Palisander rosewood with shitty polyurethane varnish.
Hey Dan, you said someone shorter than 5'4" might not find this as comfortable as other options. What are those superior options for people who are a little shorter? I'm 5'2". I want to be able to recline comfortably in my chair, even just to rest my head back for a minute. I have a Branch Task chair. The back is 23" and it's just not a fit for that. I was ready to hop on the Herman Miller Gaming Embody currently on sale until i saw the back height was also 23" and you don't recommend the head rest for people my height. What are the better options 😢
yes, I got the Eames (knockoff) chair and the comfort was very underwhelming. Had to put a pillow for the lower back or else it'd be floating off the back of the chari. The lack of recline was also horrible.
Hey Dan, this looks great. Do you think you could use this at a computer desk? This or spring for an Embody (Gaming)? I am 5'4" and sit in all kinds of weird positions. Thanks.
Unless you have a standing desk that can go low, I would say no, it cannot. Also, because the arms are pretty high on these lounge chairs, it might not "fit" under the desk in a way where you could type in a proper / comfortable position
@@Ahnestly as good as the Embody is, I can't shake the fact that it's still a computer chair. I had to return the Fern because I didn't order the one with a headrest (I'm 5'4" and still need it) and the moving arms were really annoying. Yeah, I don't use chairs how I'm supposed to, but I'm a monkey who likes to push himself up via the arms as I change positions and this only works on office chairs that have static arms. I liked how I could sit on my knees and put my feet through the back though, and the seat was by far the best I've tested. Maybe I just need to spend more time in the lounge recliner with a laptop and save the computer desk for more serious work. Otherwise I have just a few hours decide to drop $1500 after the 25% off sale for the Embody.
Great video! I had planned to purchase the HM Eames lounge chair, but then I discovered the Stressless Mike - Power Base - and was so impressed that I bought it instead. I have been using it for about a year now and continue to be amazed by the comfort and support it provides for my entire body.
Website says it's genuine leather. Stressless has so many variants, so it's hard to do a review without getting so into the weeds. Stressless leather and cushions feel a step above, but I think they look pretty horrendous. There were some models I tried where I could feel the lines in the cushions on my back and hated it.
That's a lot of chair for the price which makes me very skeptical about the build quality and general durability. Would like to see what one of these looks like after 5 years or so of use.
Lol, I can find the same chair for $310 on Aliexpress btw. CHITA website is super confusing too btw, it says "Genuine top grain leather". What is it then? Genuine or top grain? Very shady.
You know when you make a song close enough to the original without getting sued. This to me is that. I have a couple of Eames and this copy looks like the chunky recliner sofa version. Might be a superior sitting experience but my Eames is comfy enough for me to juatify buying this
I think modern design and ergonomics exceed that of the eames, but the downside is def still the materials. Just from seeing both the the leather and wood quality between the two, the leather and wood is much nicer / higher quality and more rigid on the eames
Hi @Ahnestly. May I have a request? I know Knoll Chadwick is discontinued, though there are tons of them in used market for a really good price. Since there is not that much information on this chair out there, would you do a review on Knoll Chadwick? Thank you very much.
Just purchased. It is a super high quality chair for the price. Leather is really good. Cushion is okay for what it is. The ottoman seems a little narrow but not bad enough to complain. If you are a bigger person over ~250 lbs it may be a little small for you
Looks good but for me the Eames lounge chair wins. One the long term value and 2, for critical music listening the elevated headrest will impact the sound.
I have been debating on making an Eames or purchasing a clone. Mostly because I love how they look. But I've been aware of the comfort issue for a long time, hence why they have been low on the list of things to do. That said i think i could combine most of these positive traits with more of the Eames look. A reclining Eames and the adjustable head rest would be the cats meow.
It would be cool if you also brought in a short person to test the fit of the chair. Seems like these types of content all pander only to men, leaving out shorter women. Men aren't the only ones shopping esp for living room pieces!
weve come full circle people were using lounge chairs at their pc desks from the beginning then everyone thought casters and upright seating were better.

I found what appears to be a nearly identical chair at a Macy's furniture store. The only difference I think is the base color (unpainted, nickel-like metal base) and that they optionally sell the chair and ottoman separately. Macy's calls it "Janer Leather Swivel Chair" and charges about 50% more. I tried the chair + ottoman out and was very impressed. By the way, I think I found the same chair featured in this video but at a better price on Bed Bath & Beyond's site. They call it "Leon Swivel Recliner Chair" and it's eligible for their 20%-off coupon. My credit card (Capital One Quicksilver) also offered a 3% cash back deal on BBB's site.
Someone in my town must be a reseller for this brand because I will see posts all the time for chairs from them new, not this one though. It looks pretty good for the money. I love my Ekornes Stressless chair though. I finally for to sit in an Oslo Norway chair today at Costco, always thought it might be similar to Stressless but definitely not no par, nice chair but definitely not on the same level.
Is there one that isn't leather? Looking for a nice chair for gaming. (Not a typical gaming chair, theyre horrible for posture) But I don't wanna have a sweaty back all the time. If not I'll just throw a blanket over or something. Didn't want the Herman Miller because there's no headrest.
If budget is an issue and you only care about comfort, this looks like the perfect chair ! Edit: Its only available in the US, so sad Do you have any recommandations for REALLY comfortable chairs that ship in Europe, I dont care about the looks
The thing that makes the Eames chair a classic is its simple but elegant lines and the fact it was ground breaking when first introduced. I’m 72 and recall the stir it made back then. I’m sitting in a knock-off version typing this. The Chita Elvin appears to be as comfortable but for me it is at best an ugly step-child by comparison side-by-side.
Check out my review of the eames. I deep dive into the history and what makes it so popular! I reviewed replicas of it in the past, but HM’s legal team came after me 😫
@@Ahnestly what is up with that? surely their patent would have to be up by now on the design, right? I'd be interested to be informed more on how this and how it works in the furniture industry.
The Eames chair is goated in the sauce and looks phenomenal; looks/design-wise, it's peak. That being said, as someone who is 6'1", the lack of a headrest is frustrating and forces me to sloach waaaaay down if I'm watching the TV, which isn't good for my back and makes me look like a total slob. While the Chita Elvin off-rip doesn't look as aesthetically refined as the Eames, looking at the headrest alone in the thumbnail makes me very curious. If the Eames just had a version of the chair with three back sections instead of two, it would be perfect for taller folks, but that's never going to happen. Anyway, just my two cents before watching the video.
To have your calves against the wood of the seat of the Eames I have to sit with my butt pushed into the back of the seat … I had to try it when you talked about it. It never happens, it does not even feel good or natural to sit that way !
If you look at pictures of the Eames, lots of people sitting upright on their Eames by sitting closer to the edge of the chair (e.g. famous pic of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates)! I know it's not natural, but when you don't want to lounge back
I sincerely hope you love it! My dad loves his (I bought him one with my own money bc I thought it was that good) and some people left comments saying they love theirs.
The Eames is not the most comfortable chair and ottoman not by a long shot and have two in my home. High quality authentic from Design Within Reach. The recline feature is the major selling point.
Not sure how anyone thinks the Eames Chair is comfortable. It’s not bad to sit in for a while, but the one I have in my office is pretty much unused because my office chair is way more comfortable.
You're wrong there's nothing "better" than the Eames lounge chair. Sure this can be more comfortable and better priced however Eames is an art piece you can sit in, this is just a beautiful chair at a reasonable price. This looks like a cheaper Mulhauser Plycraft Mr Chair with the Pringles shaped head rest version. The tufted straight back mr chair is probably the ugliest and the wingback Mr Chair is probably the closest to an Eames art piece chair
bought this chita chair based on this review. just set it up today. 2nd time reclining, the chair will not go back to upright position. this is terrible, terrible craftsmanship! brand new chair!
@ahnestly: you MUST REVIEW the BarcaLounger at Costco for $800 delivered. It’s an uggo chair but I want to hear about it from you!!! Beats this chair in comfort but way uglier!
Most chairs are better than the Eames chair. You dont buy an Eames chair because its better, you buy it because it is THE EAMES chair. Its a practical sculpture.
I can certainly see how this would be more comfortable than an Eames, however aesthetically it's horrible looking. A real or high quality Eames replica isn't uncomfortable, although maybe too small for some, so I will take looks over some comfort improvements.
Ha ha! Your criteria are not what matter when applied to the HM Eames Lounge Chair. Similar to longer span bridges not being able to attract as much notice as the Golden Gate.
This company perpetually has this chair on "sale" and does not accept additional discounts on items that are on sale, effectively making your discount code impossible to use. Seems like a decent chair but I'd never buy from a company that engages in these price fixing tactics.
Hey! Not sure what you're seeing on your end, but I just checked the code and it worked ($850 vs $1,000). It might be that you're getting the 2 coupon codes in my description confused (one is "AHNESTLY" for Anthros, and the other is "AHNESTLY15", which is for Chita), but totally understand if this doesn't change your opinion on things.

If you look at pictures of the Eames, lots of people sitting upright on their Eames by sitting closer to the edge of the chair (e.g. famous pic of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates)! I know it's not natural, but when you don't want to lounge back
Just bought the chair, new to your channel I hope I made the right decision! ha
Thats a great review! I went to order one!
😂 There is no way to get one in Europe…😂
Dan isn’t this going to cause some friction with HM for your affiliate marketing remits…
Huh? Why’s that?
@@Ahnestly just messing with ya. Great content as usual!
You should compare your legit Eames chair with a replica.
Wow.. it really looks like a copy of the TimeOut armchair from Swedish Conform.
Why do your videos look so damn good, dude? D:
it's not about comfort, it's about design
Much better, after 70 years
This pricing would pay for the production of the Herman Miller Chair.
Review the ikea poang
Eams is for the eyes!
price: $800-$1k
Not sure how anyone thinks the Eames Chair is comfortable. It’s not bad to sit in for a while, but the one I have in my office is pretty much unused because my office chair is way more comfortable.
There is just no way that at less than one fifth the price, that the Elvin has the same leather quality as the Herman Miller.
Hey! I did talk about it but not at length. It’s hard to tell what leather Chita is using, but it’s def not as premium as the eames!!
You dont buy a eames because its comfortable, or beutiful, or anything in between, you buy it because its a statement.
LOL that chair looks like what happens when La-Z-Boy designer tries to copy an Eames
Captain Picards chair
Conform Time Out clone
Anything is more comfortable than eames
So, basically, a copy of the Ekornes Stressless chairs.
They only ship in the US AHHH PAIN
Most chairs are better than the Eames chair. You dont buy an Eames chair because its better, you buy it because it is THE EAMES chair. Its a practical sculpture.
I can certainly see how this would be more comfortable than an Eames, however aesthetically it's horrible looking. A real or high quality Eames replica isn't uncomfortable, although maybe too small for some, so I will take looks over some comfort improvements.
These recliner chairs are way too small if you're 6 foot 5.
Better ? Who cares ? You buy the Eames because it’s more beautiful, it’s perfect. This one is confortable, probably but design speaking….
Ha ha! Your criteria are not what matter when applied to the HM Eames Lounge Chair. Similar to longer span bridges not being able to attract as much notice as the Golden Gate.
soon, soon, soon
"one they or many they" :D
