Preventing a Flying Scissor (Kani Basami) from Single Leg

  • When looking to prevent Kani Basami from a single leg situation you must seek to keep your opponent constantly off balanced. A balanced opponent is a dangerous opponent. The shoulder roll is an excellent method of making your opponent carry your weight thus causing him to become off balanced as he struggles to manage the increased load on his free leg.
    I have been on the opposite side of severe injuries before and it's not fun. My heart goes out to the dude that got his ankle broken. Hate to see that stuff, especially at the amateur level.

    If this technique can help even just one person avoid injury from Kani Basami then it was well worth it. Train safe, train smart.

    Thanks for simplifying the prevention of a dangerous technique. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

    Also falling on your knees is a counter.

    I used to wrestle and I’ve seen people try the scissor thing, but it’s never worked on me. I couldn’t explain how, but now I see why. Those wrestling instincts saving me! I’m either heavy on their thigh or I’m pulling their ankle up to the sky. No scissor there!

    • @_penguin_9946

      It’s illegal actually in folk style, freestyle and obviously Greco. Before we went onto the mat in hs the ref told us “no cutbacks” (scissor takedowns)

    What needs to happen is people need to learn safe throws. Stop doing the kani basami from the front it is literally a recipe for injury

  • @damontan4749

    Placido, in this case you have a hold on your opponents leg, what about for cases where your opponent just jumps into this straight from standing?

  • @K_x_P
    @K_x_P ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Nice job. It really shows that bjj still lacks a lot of fundamentally sound concepts of wrestling. This shown here should be your default head inside single pressure.
    And also not standing and pinching your knees together rather like shown here that 1 leg is further (outside leg) than the other, basically shelving the opponents leg on your thigh

    Anytime something bad happens to you in combat sports its ultimately because YOU did something wrong. There are ways to stop whatever just happened to you, just gotta know it. Hopefully that guys leg is alright

    In silat its 100% legal. And they run and jump into it. But actually do the scissoring mechanics. And theres basically no injuries to the point its banned in multiple styles and tournaments

  • @AGuy-s5v
    @AGuy-s5v 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    *This* is the reason Judo banned the "scissor takedown" aka Kani Basami.
    Too many Judoka's knees were getting destroyed and careers were ended because of Kani Basami.
    The fact BJJ allows it on any level is what drives me away from competing.
    This is coming from a purple belt in BJJ and a Black belt in Judo.
    Don't do Kani Basami.

    As a wrestler I never understood how anyone could get caught by this shit, but I realize you guys aren't hitting singles right. They way he's demonstrating is how a single should always be done. Also by the time you grab the leg you should already be following through with a trip a shot. Don't play hop scotch with the guy.
