Just saw the news about Lionel "Little Train" James. Earliest game of Raiders heartbreak I remember was them losing in OT in '85, largely due to "Little Train" James. Six years old but was already taking copium to be a Raiders fan. The original Darren Sproles. RIP.
One of my favorite games ever. Fun fact: After this game, three armed robbers pulled a heist at Jack Murphy Stadium and made away with $300,000. It was the largest robbery in San Diego history at the time.
The Chargers/Raiders rivalry never gets old ! I love the Bolts ! Been my team for 40 years !Bout to have an amazing season!! Getting off to a helluva start !! Week 1 at Sofi Chargers vs Raiders ! And now we got a defense...so ready for this season!
Ooooo thank you my friend. Last season Air Coryell was a dominant offensive force. Fouts and the boys are my favorite non-49ers offense. Also, Don Criqui on the call. Double bonus. Lionel James went off in this game, and also got 1000 yards receiving on the season alongside Roger Craig.
The last gasps of Air Coryell. Even at his advanced age Dan Fouts could operate that offense efficiently like it was second nature to him. Just the previous year in '84 the Chargers had what I think was the greatest all around drive in Air Coryell history against the Dolphins.
He was one of the best pure PBP guys ever IMO. His decline was precipitous though but when you've been calling games since the 60s it gets hard to keep up to the pace of the game in 2010 (his last full year) There was a 5-6 year span where he and Steve Tasker did most Bills games. in the early 2000s. Sure made watching some bad teams somewhat palatable.
The great Don Criqui...he was NBC's #2 guy at this point behind Dick Enberg. Started on CBS...if you look up the old NFL on CBS intros from 1969 or 1970, you hear him in his younger days.
Raiders losing in OT to the Chargers the same day you break this one out. Typical. One of the first games I remember watching as a kid. Wish someone would've told me to get used to this as a Raiders fan.
Why Don Coryell is still NOT in Canton is beyond me. He was a REVOLUTIONARY in this game we come together for on Sundays. The committee is fucked up! #AIRCORYELL
@UCTlO3MgUhv0pZ0pSb2Vzhrw I disagree. The hall of fame is a popularity contest. What Coryell did for the league was monumental. All the deep and intermediate passing concepts used today are because him. Coryell not being inducted is a travesty! Why is Jerry Jones in the Hall-he didnt do shit!
You laugh, but Marc Wilson ruined my childhood with his "QB" play. Raiders should've been in the Super Bowl this year...but were ruined by his sorry play under center.
@@quincee3376 Tom Flores was 6-0 vs Don Shula. The same weaknesses New England exploited with Craig James and Tony Collins running, the Raiders would have running with MVP Marcus Allen and Frank Hawkins. Plus, the game would've been in Los Angeles not the Orange Bowl, even though the Raiders won there in 1981, 1984, and 1986.

Marc Wilson. And it wasn't because of the opposing QB's. It's because his defense after 1980 was absolute GARBAGE. They really should've cashed in those first two chances he had in 1979 and 1980. They were THE team that matched up with the aging Steelers dynasty in 1979 and had home field in 1980, but of course lost to the Cinderella Raiders and Jim Plunkett. After that, the defense fell apart. They led the league in scoring this season as well as 1981 and 1982, but were never any higher than 24th in defense...and that was in a 28 team league.
Boy those raiders-chargers games were fun to watch, the excitement of chargers offense from wideouts, tight end and RB was hard to contain But despite having highest scoring offense in 85 they finish 8-8 cause there defense surrender so many points...Todd christentin was one heck of a player, raiders was im position to make superbowl with home field advantage and the league MVP but those Patriots upset everyone in AFC
Todd Christiansen was so special I can understand why hes not in the HOF as his peak years were not as many as some of the other tight ends of his era, but he was as good if not better than guys like Kellen Winslow for a stretch of his career. Id love to see him go in after we get Lester Hayes is. And Rod Martin should be in, and if you ignore Matt Millen the GM he had a HOF career 4 super bowls with 3 teams.
So right before the half was over, why did the QB throw the ball to the sidelines instead of just spiking it? I’ve never seen it done that way before cuz it obviously takes longer to do🤷🏻♂️
When Fouts was on a roll he was hard to stop. The undefeated Dolphins found that out the previous year. The Chargers offense usually played well against the Raiders even when the Raiders were good and Chargers bad.

NBC's presentation was superb in the 80's. The announcers, the graphics, the audio....all of it was incredible.
Yessir 😎
It just slipped away from us
This game shows how the AFC in the 80s was a conference of offensive firepower. The NFC had all the defensive juggernauts.
Yeah besides the Raiders there weren't a lot of defenses that could pummel teams
Marcus Allen always looked as if he was jogging. I think that is why people said he was slow. The fact was,he was not wasting any effort.
Just like alot of great athletes who are beat up by the press. Eddie Murray in Baltimore and Randy Moss in Minnesota come to mind
Fantastic game!

The afc west was so great in the 80’s!
At 2:53 Wes Chandler with an incredible one handed catch!! He was awesome. So was John Jefferson before him.
I remember the cowboys had him as thei wide receiver coach on hard knocks wthe cowboys
Dan Fouts looks like he's about to fall down every time he drops back to pass
Yeah, he fell right into the HOF after passing for over 43,000 yards in his great career.

John Elway did that as well in his early years, just the drop back then I guess
