Juan, another great video. I am making my first request for a video for you to make. When the stitching starts to fall off, please post a "How To Sew Filter Socks" video. LOL! I place socks in a bucket with diluted bleach for at least 24 hours, rinse off with garden hose and let air dry like you said. Socks come out bright white.
Thanks Gil, and haha, if a needle and thread save me a few bucks here and there...sew be it lol I do let them soak for a while in the hot water before the cycle starts, they come out fairly white
Bleach is fine. Just don't try to use the socks in the same day. However, if you are feeling brave: Use bleach (of course, you have to dilute the solution) , rinse (really well) with tap to remove majority of the concentration out. Then, rinse (really well) with distilled or ro/di water with a water conditioner which we aquarists are so familiar with. (Water conditioner "instantly neutralizes chlorine and chloramines). , whichever is at your dispose. Then let air dry.
make sure you rinse them twice or rewash them with out any soap. that way you know th we chemicals are gone. my washing machine has an extra rinse cycle. so I used both extra rinse and do it twice.
Hopefully the filter sock I add will reduce salt creep in my first stage because right now I get a lot of splashing. It will also prevent debris from clogging my PS pump, so I will give them a try
Cleaning it with bleach is a method that we used for years! Why filter pad and filter socks? Do you use the foam pad trigger systems sends with the sump also?
Yes, I use the black foam block at the bottom of the media chamber, it does a better job of sealing the chamber off from anything making it way to the return pump and placing the filter pad above it prevents it from getting clogged up, plus the filter pad polishes the water and is easily replaced versus cleaning out the black foam block
I use 100 micron nylon or polyester socks. I wont use 200 micron felt or similar anymore- for ease, maintenance, and filtration. Easily goes, 2-3 days as well.
Not. Bad. Good video on the details of having them filter socks... keep up the good work.

Great video...I only buy BRS socks since I felt the very same way about the other mentioned brands...!
What your thoughts on using hydrogen peroxide as cleaning agent? I've read some good things.
I use the same method but don't turn them inside out. I also rinse and wring out with fresh RO water after...
What kind of light you got on your refugium

filter socks can help in more than one way, let me know if you get a improvement!
